  • "We have just returned from a wonderful two week holiday at The Old Milking Shed."

This was our third stay here due to it being quite simply a sensational property in a breathtakingly beautiful location. We have always felt effortlessly relaxed when staying here. The extremely friendly owners have thought of everything to maximise the enjoyment of just being in the property and it’s outside space. There is nothing to fault. There are numerous spectacular walks accessible from the front door. All of which offer incredible views of the surrounding area of Bantham and beyond. There are many great dog friendly pubs within easy reach serving food. It is best to check opening times first as weekdays in particular may vary. Having said that, self catering here is amazingly easy. Sourcing great ingredients in nearby Kingsbridge is also a pleasure. There are so many excellent independent shops selling everything fresh and locally produced. We especially loved the fishmonger “Catch of the Day” on Fore Street and couldn’t help going back for more! We highly recommend staying at “The Old Milking Shed “. Our only dilemma now is when to book again.

Our second stay and somewhere I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to. A great base for walking, running, cycling and golfing in the local area.

  • "We absolutely loved The Old Milking Shed."

It was a beautiful barn conversion in a fantastic setting and we did not want for anything. Our only suggestions for improvement would be a small sharp knife and a Visitor Book so that guests can write about their top tips for all the beautiful places to go in the area. We would certainly like to return. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Hi Julia, We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and your feedback is very much appreciated. I'll certainly check the knife situation as there is usually one in there, along with a knife sharpener. I have been meaning to add a visitors book and thank you for the prompt as it would be a good idea for our guests to pass on their best tips, regarding restaurants, places to visit etc. if they wish to do so. We would love for you to return at some stage in the future. Sue Property Owner

  • "Beautiful relaxing week in a stunning property set in a lovely part of Devon."

It was lovely seeing the stars through the skylights at night with no street lights to interfere with our amazing view. The sun lounge was a favourite haunt of ours watching the local wildlife. Overall a well equipped and spacious modern holiday property. The bathroom towels were large and very soft, more like a hotel than a holiday cottage. Would book again as the property is our number one future choice.

  • "Our second stay at The Old Milking Shed in Bantham."

This is an outstanding property in a most beautiful location. Within walking distance of the stunning beach, coast path and The Sloop Inn. The property itself is impressive and certainly deserves it’s 5 star status. It is spotlessly clean and equipped beyond expectations. On a practical note, the property is very spacious and light. There is plenty of storage and living space for six people. Staying here is almost effortless and takes”self catering” to another level. The delightful owners who live in the adjoining property are extremely welcoming and friendly. We were celebrating a special occasion and on arrival we were surprised and extremely grateful to discover a greeting card, champagne and strawberries awaiting us from the owners! After a perfect week we were sad to leave but our happiness levels have been very well restored after our stay. A huge thank you to our hosts. We will be back. Just as an additional footnote, we can also highly recommend a catering company based in Kingsbridge. Check out their website wildartichoke.com They have amazing freshly prepared, high quality takeaway food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We opted for their two course Sunday roast dinner which was exceptional. You won’t be disappointed.

  • "The location is perfect and our hosts were extremely helpful."

The only addition we would suggest would be a long broom and a second fridge as the only in the kitchen is quite small for 6 people. However we’d definitely book this place again.

The following response is from the property owner: ‘It’s always great to get feedback and we take onboard your comments completely. Accordingly there will be a 80L drinks fridge installed. We have also invested in a heavy duty performance cordless vacuum cleaner for the floors, which will hopefully eliminate the need for a long handle broom. Hope to see you again sometime'. • "What a stunning place in a tranquil location."

The Old Milking Shed is stunning and just as advertised a really wow when you walk in. It is finished to a high standard and has quality furnishings right down to bedding and kitchen equipment. Spotlessly clean and perfectly presented. The log burner is great and there is a log shed opposite to help yourself to more logs, we made the most of the log burner - very cosy indeed. The under floor heating is fab too. We took our German Shepard, the garden was perfectly secure for a big dog as the walls are high. The garden room is a lovely place to enjoy the garden when the weather is cold or wet. Good Sonos music system In the house. We took Xmas trees and made it Christmassy, perfect space for a family. It was a pleasure to cook in the wonderful open plan kitchen. The Sloop Inn is about five minutes walk as you turn left out of the entrance and the sea is a further 10 mins from there. Good Sunday roast at The Sloop but make sure you book. Lovely open fire too. Villlage shop is just up from the pub, when you get to the pub turn right. A perfect weekend away.

Many thanks for all the complimentary reviews and constructive comments received during 2019. We have already taken on-board some of the ideas to help make your stay even more enjoyable (including the great suggestion of a light switch plan by the front door) and we shall endeavour to provide some ‘basics’ for you to make a warm welcome beverage starting in Spring 2020. The bottle of wine will continue! Blackout curtains have been installed in the ground floor master bedroom and there is a hairdryer in each bedroom. We wish all our guests the very best for 2020 and hope to see you again sometime in the future. With our best wishes, Sue and Ian Property Owner

  • "This house was a total home from home."

Very clean and tidy which suits anyone with OCD (me). The location is perfect for peace and quiet, just far enough out of the village with a pub that does good food, a well stocked shop and a 10 minute walk to the beach (dogs allowed on the beach to the right). Plenty of wildlife around. If you're lucky you'll see glow worms on the way back from the pub in the hedgerows! The only thing that was missing was just some basics, no milk, no teabag, no bread etc upon arrival, there was a bottle of wine which was a nice touch but I can't drink for health reasons so felt left out, water is was! Make sure you get your food in before you arrive as the roads are extremely narrow, if you've driven 6 hours the last thing you want to do is struggle down those roads again, one of which is a main route to the very popular Bantham beach. The car park is £6.50 (cash only) for all day should you need to drive to the beach (there is no other parking in the village). We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again as it's a fantastic house. The garden has fake grass which our dog loved - no muddy paws, it was also totally enclosed and private! We were very lucky with the weather too, a shame the house doesn't have access to the pool! (sorry I looked at planning!) As we are a family of swimmers we'd be back all the time if we did! The sea was good, we had very large waves some days which was great fun, however it always has strong undercurrents because of the shape of the bay and river so be careful! I couldn't recommend this house and it's location enough. You won't be disappointed.

  • "The directions give the shortest route through the lanes to the barn however the last bit is a VERY steep, single track with a sharp left then right."

The lanes in Devon are all narrow but this route to the property, there are others, is particularly scary. The property is excellent and you want for nothing, no expense has been spared, the owners are friendly but not in the least intrusive. If the weather is bad, and ours wasn't too good, you are at least extremely comfortable. The walk to the beach is short and there are lovely walks from the property.

No mobile phone coverage was not a problem for us and good wifi compensated. Kitchen facilities excellent. Frosted glass sliding doors to en suite may not suit everyone but the furnishings and bathroom fittings are first class.

  • "Outstanding property, beautifully renovated and furnished, well worthy of its 5 star rating!"

Would suggest that the bedrooms have black-out blinds, (especially the master suite downstairs). Kitchen and dining area not particularly private as there were no blinds or curtains at the windows.
