Excellent relaxed stay if you want peaceful togetherness, sounds of owls and steam trains. Not for you if you want noisy/bleeping steamy, kitchen appliances but why would you on holiday ?

  • "This is a beautiful quiet peaceful location."

The cottage is beautiful and absolutely sufficiently big enough for two people and a pooch. The dining room table would be the only thing I found hard to use comfortably as the sides slopes down making it hard to eat and rest your elbows on while chatting at the table as you do when on holiday. The bed, settee and seating area was very comfortable. Plenty area outside to sit and watch the magnificent sunsets. Would highly recommend and would love to go back again one day. Thanks you Brenda.

  • "What a lovely cottage."

Set in beautiful countryside with a huge garden. Everything we needed for a restful week. The railway was an added bonus well worth a ride we went to Minehead for the day. Brenda the owner and Phoebe her little dog were very welcoming.

When we arrived the host thought we were a day early, we weren't, but the property was ready for us and she was fine. It was a lovely setting, and we had great weather. Her dog, pheobe, became our new friend, waiting for us every morning with her toy to play with. The local roads are quite narrow, but drive carefully and you will be fine. Will definitely consider going again in the future. The locals at the near by pub were welcoming and made us feel at home.

Lovely location, setting and hostess. Not a criticism but the interior could do with a bit of up dating.- perhaps a new sofa and upgrading of the kitchen. Will happily recommend to others.

  • "A lovely spot to stay especially with a dog."

The spacious grounds were a great bonus, but the narrow lanes to the cottage are not for the faint hearted. Pleasant walk along the track to the station, where you can enjoy a cream tea in the garden, or take a steam train ride with your dog (£3 return for the dog). I can recommend .the nearby Rocking Horse for lunch. My dog enjoyed the doggy ice cream on the hot day we visited. Comfortable cottage and lovely holiday.. .

Owner was extremely welcoming and helpful. Cottage was comfortable - kitchen could do with little updating but this is not a criticism. Getting to the property is a challenge because of very narrow lanes/tracks - but whole area is like this. We would love to make a return visit.

  • "Little Barton is set in an idyllic spot!"

We were blessed with good weather most of the time, and were able to sit out every day. In fact, we parked the car when we arrived, and didn't use it again until we left... Brenda made us very welcome, while also being unobtrusive, and we had several visits (and doggy kisses) from Phoebe, and eventually even from shy Lottie! The deck overlooking the river and dell is wonderful, but the view from the cottage itself is pretty special, too. We saw woodpeckers, rabbits, and pheasants in the garden, and loved the steam trains passing by on the 4 days that they ran. The cottage itself was good, and plenty warm enough when the weather cooled. We would definitely consider returning if the cottage is let in future years. Thank you Brenda for a lovely, restful break (and for the apples from your tree), and thank you Phoebe for all of your affection toward us!

Fabulous to hear you had such a wonderful time and even managed to enjoy some beautiful weather. It certainly sounds like you left with some amazing memories. Thank you for such lovely feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Best Wishes, Hideaways. Property Owner

  • "The property wasn't as good as what is was advertised, it wasn't very clean with dirt and dust in places."

The TV was very basic with no freeview at all, I took my own dvd player which I was glad I did. The shower had no power, so the water was very slow on coming out. I couldn't leave the door open (it was very hot in the living room) as there dog would come in and eat my dogs food. There was only one walk you could do if you didn't want to drive anywhere, but my dog Meg had to be on the lead as it was right next to the railway line. The only good thing about the place was the garden as it was lovely and Meg loved running around it. I ended up leaving a day early as it was very uncomfortable staying in the cottage, as it is VERY small.

Thank you for your feedback, with regards to your stay at Little Barton. I'm sorry to hear your stay wasn't up to our usual high standards. Did you get in touch with the owner, so she could have come over to rectify anything you where not happy with?. We do state the cottage is by a railway line, which is a steam railway and isn't used very much. I will pass on your comments to the owner for review. Property Owner

The property

Resting in a stunning part of rural North Somerset, Little Barton provides the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

Located in the grounds (to which you have full access) of the owners' home, the cottage commands panoramic views of the surrounding glorious countryside.

Adjoining the owners' home, the cottage is situated all on one level.

Enter into the inviting lounge / dining room, where you will either be able to curl up with a good book, or take time and relax over a lovingly prepared meal in the adjoining, well equipped galley kitchen.

All the while taking in the sunning views afforded by its lovely location.

From the living room step into the adjoining bedroom, complete with en-suite shower room, where the only thing that might keep you awake is the abundant wildlife.

From the cottage take the opportunity to enjoy the extensive grounds: a morning coffee outside the cottage or a glass of wine on the elevated deck in the evening?.

Or perhaps a picnic in the secluded dell, on the banks of the Doniford Stream that runs through the grounds.

For the rail fans among you, there is the added bonus that the cottage lies beside the track of the West Somerset Railway, and you will be able to see the historic steam locomotives trundling by as they make their way along the 20 mile stretch of track between Bishop's Lideard and Minehead (don't worry about your sleep being disturbed - they don't run before 10.00 or after 5.00). If you can tear yourself away from your rural bolthole, travel to the nearby village of Stogumber, an idyllic spot with thatched cottages, a village shop and a pub, serving a great dining menu.

Alternatively, you could travel in the other direction to The Carew Arms in Crowcombe for a delicious meal.

Keen walkers can look forward to exploring the Quantock Hills AONB and Exmoor National Park, slightly further afield, or if you are visiting during the summer months, travel to Minehead or Watchet (which is only 4 miles away) for a day at the beach.

With so much to see and do, secure your stay at Little Barton for that well deserved break.
