  • "Fantastic holiday."

Clean, modern accommodation in an Ideal location. Only issue was parking.

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately the council won’t issue any parking permits as we have tried. Thanks for your comments. We hope you return in the future x Property Owner

  • "This cottage is a lovely cottage in a perfect location, we would definitely stay here again if we are in the area."

It was clean and fresh (although, please do check crockery is also clean, as there is no dishwasher) and had everything we needed for our stay. The only issue was in regards to parking, we understand parking is an issue for all in the town, but it would of really helped if there was a Parking Permit. We wasted a lot of our time and money travelling to and from the Park & Ride, as there were no other parking available closer.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the council won’t give parking permits to holiday homes. Parking is an issue for the town in general during peak periods. We advise using the park and ride. In the winter it is far less restrictive after October. Pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous week in this cottage, it’s so comfortable and had everything we needed for a fabulous stay."

We did struggle when we arrived though as we managed to lock ourselves out - there was only one key and the Sykes office was closed at that time. In other cottages we’ve received a contact number from the owners in case of an emergency etc. but we had nobody to contact. Eventually, after lots of door knocking of neighbours and shops the yacht club lent us some ladders and my daughter was able to access the back garden. Luckily we had opened the back door. A second key possibly left with a neighbour or within the safe would be a sensible idea I think as I’m sure that this could easily happen again. The cold tap wasn’t working in the bath and the bathroom window had to be propped open but these are minor points and did not take away the multitude of great positives about this beautiful cottage. We will definitely be returning next year, if not before! Thank you

  • "We are regulars to Dartmouth, having lived there and stayed many many times in various accommodations around town."

Green Retreat is a fabulous 3-bed property in a great location right in town directly opposite Alf Resco and you can fall out of the door to Bayards Cove and the embankment. It has a wonderful little enclosed small garden which gets the sun in the morning so it's lovely to step outside with a cup of tea as there is a table and chairs. There is a BBQ but probably needs a little TLC before using as its exposed to the weather and the seagulls. The property is well-equipped with everything you need for a lovely stay. The bedrooms are so spacious with large comfortable beds and a bath and a lovely powerful shower. Smart TV's in all the rooms so you can kick back and watch whatever you fancy. It has a lovely homely feel with lots of decor connected to Dartmouth. One downside is we were expecting a dishwasher as this was clearly stated on the accommodation listing for Coast and Country, Sykes and their other listings. We had booked for 9 nights with our family so didn't want to spend the week washing up so was expecting this to be there so was surprised to find it missing. We reported to the agent who tried to tell me I hadn't seen it listed as a feature until I explained where it was and she was then quite dismissive. I spoke with the owner who said this was a listing error by the agent, this has subsequently been amended by the agents. Also, initially there appeared to be a lot of things missing that we would expect to find in a 3-bed property, things like a vacuum cleaner, iron, ironing board, sweeping brush etc. When I checked with the agents they were again quite dismissive and simply said 'you need to check the listing and if its not there, the apartment doesn't have it' I'm so glad I had the owner's contact as she pointed me to a cupboard in the kitchen area with a padlock on, told me the code and in the cupboard was everything we needed. I have no idea why this cupboard was locked as it contained all the essentials for keeping the house clean and tidy. The owner explained it shouldn't have been locked and we should have had access. Overall, this is a fabulous property in a great location. The owner is lovely and helpful, the agents though are quite dismissive when issues are reported. I did speak to them about some of the initial issues and they didn't bother calling me back to check everything was ok and we had everything that was needed. I would stay here again as it's a lovely house in a great location with everything you need.

  • "Stated a dishwasher in the description."

There isn’t one. No heating control so heating was on constantly. No vacuum cleaner, no sweeping brush , no wc brush in main bathroom. Patio slabs and patio furniture covered in green algae. Couldn’t use outside area to sit in. Door to patio area insecure, lock sticks out very sharp. Ripped my coat on it. Disappointed.

I am so sorry, the issues have been addressed. The cupboard under the stairs always did have the heating in the cupboard and is easy to use. The heating is controlled by thermostats on the radiators and there is a boost button if required as the property keeps warm. Sykes have now updated their welcome email so all information is contained. The dishwasher should never have been included as there is no physical space for one. I hadn't been informed about the outside but I was there recently and there is no green algae and has been jet washed and looked immaculate. Apologies unfortunately the weather has been so wet and awful that no-one has been able to get outside until just recently. Property Owner

  • "Cottage lovely but cold on arrival."

Sykes information manual incorrect on heating thermostat, not on wall actually in a padlocked cupboard under stairs. Managed to call owner who gave us location of key. Stat not easy to use needs a wall stat with temperature dial on it. Sykes need to update information folder

Sykes have now corrected this as the cupboard should have been left open, the downstairs cupboard has been unlocked. The heating is very efficient it works off thermostats in rooms on radiators. Apologies if it was cold on arrival but the property always heats up quickly. There is a boost button on the heating system under stairs which takes 5-10 mins to heat up. Property Owner

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
