The property

Whitefield Cottage, near North Molton (6.6 miles) Step into your very own storybook escape at Whitefield Cottage — a charming 17th-century stone retreat that looks like it’s been plucked straight from a fairy tale and gently placed in the heart of Exmoor National Park.

Surrounded by rolling greenery and steeped in over 1,200 years of history (yes, it even gets a mention in the Domesday Book!), this is no ordinary countryside stay. From the moment you pass through the old wooden gate, you’ll feel the pace of life slow right down.

Kick off your boots in the sunny porch, sip your morning coffee while soaking up the views, and then wander inside to discover a cosy, character-filled cottage that feels instantly like home. The kitchen is bright and welcoming, with classic cream units, wooden worktops, and everything you need to whip up a hearty breakfast or evening feast.

Move through to the sitting area, where low oak beams, deep comfy seating, and a roaring stove-effect fire create the perfect spot to curl up after a day exploring.

The dining area, set by a beautiful bow window, is made for long, laughter-filled meals or competitive board game nights. Upstairs, you’ll find two lovely bedrooms — a light and airy twin room and a charming master with an iron bed and beautiful rustic touches.

There’s even a snug reading space on the landing, complete with books and a teddy-bear-soft sofa to sink into. Outside, the magic continues.

Enjoy lazy lunches on the lawn, let your four-legged friend roam freely, or dine alfresco at the redwood table surrounded by peaceful countryside.

With a working farm next door and the gentle sounds of sheep and cattle at night, you truly are in the heart of rural Devon. For adventurers, the Tarka Trail runs right past your doorstep, leading you through stunning moorland landscapes, all the way to ancient sites like Shoulsbury Castle.

Fancy the coast?

The golden sands of Saunton are within easy reach, perfect for surfing, sandcastle-building, or sunset strolls. You’ll also find charming villages nearby, local markets, peaceful riverside picnic spots, gardens, galleries, and plenty of family-friendly attractions — so whether you’re exploring, relaxing, or a bit of both, there’s something here for everyone. If you’re looking for a truly unique countryside escape full of charm, history, and unforgettable moments — Whitefield Cottage is calling.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
