  • "We had a lovely stay at Picket Mead."

The cottage is surrounded by stunning countryside, and is very cosy with a wood burner which was lovely at night.  The stairs are original, and although steep, it all adds to it's wonderful character.  It is located centrally to some lovely seaside towns like Beer, Sidmouth and Branscombe.

  • "Lovely cottage in the peaceful village of Southleigh, amazing inglenook fireplace made the place feel very cosy."

Beds & furniture really comfortable and the WiFi worked well. Kitchen was a good size with everything we needed and we were able to park in the village hall car park opposite to cottage. Would recommend.

  • "We stayed in Picket Mead for a long weekend and loved how peaceful it was, great to get away from the hustle and bustle."

The surrounding countryside and walks were breathtaking, and the cottage itself was very homely. Beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked and nights watching tv in front of the fire were great. A little gem, we will be back.

  • "So glad we've discovered Picket Mead and Southleigh."

We came for a long weekend and walked along the river into Colyton on the Saturday and had a well earned lunch in The Kingfisher. On Sunday we drove 10 mins to Branscombe beach for breakfast at The Sea Shanty. Picket Mead is a lovely, quiet cottage when you can watch the slow pace of Southleigh go by (including cows and tractors!). It had everything we needed for our hol, and we hope to go back someday.

Upstairs, the cottage offers three bedrooms: one double, one twin, and one single—each with its own unique charm.

The family shower room with a walk-in shower is also located on this floor.

Please note that the low ceilings and traditional staircase may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns.

Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast between Seaton and Branscombe. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer, plus just outside the village is the popular Pecorama Gardens, which are perched on the hill overlooking Lyme Bay. Pecorama boasts the Beer Heights Light Railway and indoor model railway exhibition, along with a children's' play area. Beer is a unique Devon fishing village and a great place to stay.
