  • "The glasses seem to be reduced in number, also the cups."

Otherwise it is well equipped. The caretaker is very helpful and quick to respond. (There was a problem with the cooker). We had another lovely holiday. Thank you.

Only issue found was knifes for eating had all been blunted. Had to buy some to cut food.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you found the knives in the kitchen to be blunt. We have not had any comment from previous guests about this so are assured this will not be a continued issue. Property Owner

The situation is perfect, you can walk straight from the house onto the moor for miles in every direction, and it is within easy reach of great pubs and cafes, would definitely book again.

Paths onto the moor and up to Haytor Rocks from the garden gate. The house is warm and comfortable with a well equiped kitchen. Communication with the owner is very good. This is an ideal location to explore Dartmoor and South Devon from and I would highly recommend staying here

  • "Lovely cottage and a great opportunity to get out on the moors every day."

One thing that impressed us was the attention to detail and the little things that show extra thought, like the cake waiting for us, and the fact that the kitchen was really well kitted out. We're definitely thinking of booking again.

Perfect base to walk Dartmoor, comfortable and cool in the hot weather with a garden to rest in. Would like to book again.

. With a new person responsible for preparing the cottage pre-arrival, it was as immaculate as ever. The welcome cake and milk were very welcome.

  • "What a wonderful place to stay for a holiday on the moor."

Clean, cosy, comfortable. A well laid out holiday cottage, good sized bedrooms, great well-equipped kitchen and an airy and well lit sitting room. The owners have taken time and care in making this an ideal place to base a getaway from busyness and stress. Everything worked and was easy to use with good instructions. It was great to leave the car safely parked and just cross over the road and onto the moor for a stroll up to Haytor rocks and beyond. On the Sunday we went up to Widecombe church where we received a warm welcome and then back to the cottage for lunch followed by a walk over to the medieval village at Hound Tor. A good place for an excellent meal after a walk near Widecombe is the Ruddlestone Inn, where the atmosphere and food is excellent. We would have loved to stay for a further week if it had been possible. Long may Ludgate Cottage continue to be a lovely place to come to for future visitors and their families.

  • "The description of private garden is misleading!"

! It is a shared drive with a small piece of lawn and a picnic bench.

The website correctly photographs and describes: South-facing grassed area (picnic bench) opposite for your use. Property Owner

  • "Really nice cottage."

Disappointed to find we were holidaying next to two building sites, subsequent noise and workers vans and other vehicles parking in our 'private' garden. We should have been made aware of this. Apart from this we enjoyed this area of the moors. If and when we return will probably find another cottage.

  • "Ludgate Cottage was very clean and comfortable."

The bed and the linen was a high standard. Extremely well equipped kitchen with modern appliances. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday despite the weather. Lovely walks from the cottage so no need to use the car too much. We were so glad we were able to use the heating as it was very cold for June. The only constructive comment would be that it would be helpful to have a grab handle to assist getting in and out of the shower.

  • "We've been staying here for 10 years."

Disappointed there wasn't even a pint of milk this year. Name of caretaker and contact number was incorrect. Dishwasher covered the crockery in a film we couldn't remove so couldn't use it. New settees are even worse than the old ones. You are nearly on the floor. I finally found the details for the property manager but she couldn't get the dw repaired in time. Also there are no details as to the recycling arrangements. The cottage is very clean and well equipped but things need checking up on.

  • "Walks across the Moors are great, saw the cuckoo and lots of other birds, butterflies and moths."

All across the road from the cottage. Many other attractions within driving distance. I wouldn't say the house was suitable for very young children or older unfit people, because of the stairs leading to the living quarters (it's upside down). But it did have the most comfy bed, I have ever slept in!

Very well equipped kitchen with a lovely range cooker. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the beds were comfy with lovely crisp white bedding. After a very stressful few months we needed a relaxing quiet break and that's exactly what we got at Ludgate Cottage. Thankyou

  • "This was our second visit to this cottage and it felt like home from home."

A well fitted out cottage in a beautiful location. The moor is literally on your doorstep so walks, wildlife and wonderful scenery are all around you. It's location provides easy access to the all the local Devon tourist attractions as well as a fine place to just relax and chill out.

  • "We loved this cottage."

The beds were extremely comfortable, and there was a good-sized, well-equipped kitchen and dining area, which included everything we needed. But the star of the show was the location. It's directly across the road from Dartmoor, particularly beautiful in August as it's covered in heather and gorse, and very close to Hay Tor. Friendly Dartmoor ponies even come to the cottage gate!

  • "The cottage is well appointed and comfortable but the best thing about it is the location."

A few steps and you’re onto open moorland - Haytor, ancient tramway and the beautiful disused quarry on the door step. Lovely for an evening walk!
