  • "Comfortable large lounge, compact kitchen well-packed with everything (quite high shelves), excellent bathroom with corner bath and decor, good sized bedrooms - would benefit from chest of drawers (or desk with drawers) - we used suitcases on the low table throughout."

Would suit active older mixed group, with toileting up and down. Excellent view in this upside-down house, but rear garden is barely worth using (stairs + car parking to rear). The front garden has more mileage. Excellent village location and facilities - a sheer delight.

  • "Lovely place quiet great for getting into Dartmoor park and south to the coast."

Rather unusual being an upside down house - a first for us. The garden isn't accessible via a backdoor. I read another review about the mortice lock to the front door being difficult. Indeed it is. Once we finally got in we didn't use it again for the duration of the stay. The only facility lacking would be a dishwasher but hey ho you can't have everything. I tried communicating via the mobile number a couple of times but received no answer. I was only able to get hold of the owner via email but again no real problem. There was no information about what to do with the recycling and rubbish and in the event one of the neighbours put me right.

  • "The cottage was an unusual arrangement, the garden was quite basic, but usable."

The front door was difficult to lock and unlock and there were no instructions about using the many recycling bins.

Very homely and an enjoyable stay.

  • "It’s a lovely little upside down house."

Could use a bigger kitchen bin but appreciate space is tight. Everything you need for the basics is in the kitchen. The local chippy is lovely and they’re ever so friendly in there. Overall a great base to stay and explore the area. We would happily stay at the property again and may well do in the future.

  • "I have just spent a wonderful few days at Moorside, the only drawback that I feel should be mentioned is that you can’t access the garden from inside the house, however this did not detract from my stay, I would recommend and I will be back."

  • "We had a lovely holiday at moorside ."

The only downsides were there was no stair gate, you can’t access the garden through the house , you have to go out and round the side to let the dog out to the toilet ( slightly annoying in the rain) also the double mattress was very hard. Apart from that it was fabulous.

It was very clean and comfortable and was located in an area which was ideal for exploring Dartmoor and beyond. Would return again. Highly recommended.

  • "We had a great week at Moorside, everything with the house was as described, very clean, very comfortable and well equipped."

Key collection was straight forward and communication with the owner was great. Loved the piano too. We tend not to go to the same place twice as we like trying new places, but if we did, I would definitely stay at Moorside again. Horrabridge is a great location for exploring Dartmoor, and has very good access to cycling and walking routes in the area. The village also has a shop/post office and 2 pubs, only one of which we visited (The Leaping Salmon, which was also excellent) and a lovely little art shop/gallery.

  • "Excellent property, I would definitely recommend and am very likely to go back if available when visiting family In Plymouth."

Ideally located for nearby moors and in between Plymouth city and Tavistock town. My only comment is that the garden area is beside and in front of the house, so for children or a dog there is not a door leading onto this directly. Easily overcome however. Just different.

  • "This is an ideally located house for touring the area ."

Comfortable and quirky in its layout ,everything you need on a self catering holiday. Excellent local walks and bike trails. Tavistock and the moors on the door step. Lots of very nice places to eat out. Supermarkets and local shops close by. We would definitely use this again as a base when visiting our family in Plymouth.

  • "Very nice house in delightful, extremely quiet village on the western edge of Dartmoor."

Especially large lounge. Well equipped, and, a nice touch, tea and coffee and fresh cut flowers were provided for our arrival. The caretaker, Michael, was very helpful when I had a problem with the oven.

  • "This was a return visit and we weren’t disappointed."

There had been some improvements/updates from last year. The cottage is spacious and very clean. It is in an excellent position; close to the moors and within a few minutes of shops. Local chippy is worth a visit and the village park is super. Thank you.

  • "This was a very well appointed house making it easy to self cater."

It was very comfortably furnished. The weather was very hot but the house was easy to keep fresh, with a good through breeze in the living area when the windows on both sides were open. We were visiting friends locally and had room to invite them over too. The fresh flowers on arrival were a much appreciated gesture. Horrabridge is very conveniently placed for visiting Dartmoor, whether you are interested in the “wild country” or the towns and villages. As we spent time mountain biking the washing machine and clothes line were well used!

Spacious living area and lovely bathrooms . Location was quiet and peaceful but still within easy reach of Plymouth . The close access to Drake's trail from Horrabridge was helpful and a great way to spend an afternoon walking to Tavistock. Being close to the Moors meant we could explore there but could return home to warm up when needed . Also the local pub and chippie were a delight!.

Garden was a little smaller than expected but this wasn't an issue to us. We're hoping to return next year for a longer stay.

The cottage was warm & comfortable, especially the bed wonderful to sleep in. There was everything provided to meet your needs. Tavistock was aa very short distance away, in the village there's a great fish & chip shop, the pub was very friendly, you had Morrison's & Lidels only five minutes drive from the cottage. We would certainly stay there again & recommend it to our family & friend's.

About the location

HORRABRIDGE

Tavistock 4.5 miles; Plymouth 11.5 miles.

Horrabridge is a charming riverside village located within beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Walkham, well known for its salmon fishing, flows vigorously under the village bridge, which is said to be the oldest in West Devon. An excellent base for a holiday in Devon, Horrabridge has a combination of olde-worlde charm and modern facilities, including a good pub near the river and a selection of small shops. There are many excellent walks starting from the village, taking you up onto Dartmoor and providing you with glorious views of the surrounding fields and hills where sheep and Dartmoor ponies gently graze. The market town of Tavistock, the main town of Dartmoor's western moor, is an exceptionally attractive town, owing much to fine Victorian architecture and its picturesque location on the banks of the River Tavy. There is no shortage of shops and cafes in Tavistock, plus the town is home to the purpose built Pannier Market - a must for every visitor.
