  • "We all 12 of us found the house fabulous !"

It was very spacious, beautifully furnished and homely. So many interesting artefacts, pictures, books etc on display. As for the kitchen it was equipped with the very best aids one could need, of high quality… very impressive…. We only wish we could move it to the next location we will visit!!

  • "We much enjoyed our week in Old Monmouth and are keen to return sometime."

Our group included children who loved the space and mysterious doors to unknown rooms! Some of us are older, and appreciated the comfortable ensuite bedrooms. The two living rooms provide flexibility for different activities, especially when it rains. The kitchen is brilliant, well equipped and big enough for all to gather and eat together. The history of the house is fascinating, the location is convenient for beaches, sea front, shops, lots for everyone to enjoy. Altogether fantastic for a multi generational group, great atmosphere and welcoming environment. Thanks for looking after the house so well and the opportunity to stay.

  • "Monmouth was a lovely property, ideally situated close to the centre of Lyme and especially the beach."

The facilities were very good with lots of room for our large family, the only thing missing was a Christmas tree to make it very festive!!!!

  • "We had a wonderful week in the Old Monmouth."

Fantastic House in a great location. Lovely and clean and very comfortable. Perfect our two families with teens who could be pretty independent. The Ship Inn became a regular favourite, only 1 minute from the door. Only comment would be to leave a few more purple sacks fot the bins (or make it clear that the clear ones will also be collected). Luckily with 3 bin collections in the week we worked this out ourselves in the end. Other than that, absolutely fab.

  • "This property is amazing!"

!! Steeped in history, quirky, spacious and comfortable! We were a party of 6 couples celebrating a 50th Birthday and couldnt have asked for a better place to call home. The location is also amazing, not too hilly, close to all the amenities. Would definitely return!!!

  • "We love staying at Old Monmouth."

The old inn was fabulous for a wonderful weekend with old friends and family to celebrate my 60th birthday in England. Facilities were brilliant. Cooking in the kitchen took some time to get used to but was able to produce a fab 3 course meal for 9 of us. Would recommend perhaps organising the kitchen to make things easy to find eg all mixing bowls in one place, serving bowls in one place etc. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend dealing with Sykes’ Cottages, I found the inflexibility crazy eg 4pm strict check in, no shower produce supplied (small bar of soap would have been lovely) and after calling Sykes cottages asking for help on a few things and not even getting a reply was less than acceptable when paying a large amount of £££ for our stay.

We hope you had a wonderful celebration with the family. The check-in time may be variable in the quieter season, but unfortunately we need to allow the housekeeper the full allocated time to prepare such a large property to our expected standards. We could only locate one note of an enquiry from yourselves, which hoped we resolved on the telephone. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Property was beautiful and well equipped."

We had a great time, and loved the old quirkiness combined with modern facilities. Lyme Bay Holidays told us there was not a high chair, but there actually was one. One parking pass for a property that sleeps 12 adults is probably a little tight, we bought 3 more. Perhaps state this is required in the description.,

It's great to hear that you had a wonderful holiday. We have ensured all of our marketing is clear that only 1 parking permit is provided for the property. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "What a find !"

This is a beautiful house steeped in history. The decor was fabulously unique and stylish. It was comfortable and roomy , absolutely perfect for our reunion of friends. The kitchen was well equipped, it was warm throughout, loads of hot water and fab showers. There is also an extra single bedroom that appears not to be listed which was a useful surprise for us. We would book it again in a heartbeat. 2 small issues - We couldn't get the music system to work . As the previous reviewer said, there is no instruction or provision for recycling and food waste, just 1 bag for rubbish. There is clearly a strict and comprehensive rubbish collection system operating in Lyme but we ended up taking our recycling home - frustrating.

I'm so pleased to hear that you had a fabulous stay. The property has a commercial rubbish collection so everything goes into the purple bag provided and is then sorted at the recycling centre. I will ensure the instructions are checked and updated to make this clear. Property Owner

  • "A lovely house - perfect for our large family group, with lots of history."

Just one issue for us - the lack of instructions about disposal of waste. There was no information about what constitutes recyclable items and only one purple bag for such items (which took us a while to find). We worked on our collective experience of recycling - which was quite varied! - so I hope this worked OK.

  • "Perfect location and layout for holiday with friends or extended family ."

All rooms apart from the twin have an en-suite so works well. The basement is great for meals and socialising with lots of facilities for cooking a range of meals. You need to bring your own foil, oils etc as nothing is left at the house. Everything you need for a great holiday we had a long weekend and had a great time. Lots of nice pubs, restaurants and cafes within walking distance and the beach a few mins walk.

We all so appreciated the character and historical feel to the house and it was great to have en-suites as we all dressed for the wedding. Had some memorable meals together with everything you could need to cater for 12 guests. The staff at Lyme Bay Holidays were so helpful and readily available for one or two minor issues that we needed sorting. For us it was the icing on the cake of a magical wedding weekend.
