“As with our last stay at Moon Lizard, everything we needed was provided.”

Unlike our last stay back in September, the weather was not very good but that did not stop us getting around places knowing that we had a warm, comfortable cottage to return to.

About the location

Plymouth 8 miles.

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and bracing countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in the village and an organic farm shop just two miles away. Newton and Noss offer a choice of three characterful pubs all overlooking the creek and offering good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks. You can meander along the waterside or strike out along the dramatic cliffs of the South West coastal path. Catch the local ferry boat across the river to Wembury Point. The walk along this stretch of coast will give you an alternative perspective of The Mewstone that guards the entrance to the river. The more intrepid can head north to Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces and immerse themselves in it’s barren but beautiful countryside. If the beach rather than boats is what you seek, you won't do better than the beautiful sands at Mothecombe and Bigbury just a few miles down the road. Both are accessible by road or boat from Newton Ferrers. For the more active, there are well maintained tennis courts in Noss Mayo as well as several excellent golf courses nearby. A children’s play area is available adjacent to the tennis courts. Further afield lies the city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area, while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must. Salcombe remains a popular day out. Organised sightseeing destinations include Mount Edgcumbe, Saltram House and Overbecks.
