  • "Insect bites!"

First 10 days spent in double bedroom, then moved to other room, where unfortunately I suffered with bites (I believe bed bugs), moved to another bed in the room and had the same. Left a day early as I felt dirty and generally grotty. I notified owner of the issue so it could be rectified, he then charged £200 for cleaning claiming it was fleas that I had brought in. I am using holiday lets to move around the country seeing new places while completing a property purchase, and have stayed in 7 properties since January with no issues in any other property, so would love to know how it was me when it only happened there. Booked for 18 nights - no offer to change bedding or towels Directions incorrect - left not right when arriving on site, important when arriving on a dark foggy night. No blinds or curtains in kitchen means people can see in to kitchen, dining room and part of living room, I had to hang a towel from the window to feel comfortable. No blinds or curtains in bathroom, there is frosted glass but still very off putting. Hot water - very low pressure so took ages to fill bowl in kitchen for dishes, and only manages a couple of inches deep if you wanted a bath. Wifi is open, not closed as stated and often dropped out, I had to hot spot off of my phone.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review and hope the below provides some clarity regarding the concerns raised. Following receipt of your message, which was submitted after your departure, we arranged for the property to be inspected immediately. During this inspection, an experienced property manager found no evidence whatsoever of bed bugs within the property. However, signs consistent with animal flea activity were identified, together with clear evidence that a pet had been allowed onto furniture. As outlined within the booking terms agreed at the time of reservation, pets are not permitted on furniture. This policy exists to help maintain cleanliness standards and minimise the risk of issues such as flea infestations for future guests. We would also note that no concerns relating to pests, insects or bites were reported at any point during your 18-night stay. Issues of this nature would ordinarily be raised immediately so that they can be investigated and resolved without delay whilst guests are still in residence. With regard to the £200 charge, this represented only a proportion of the costs incurred. Following your departure, a specialist deep clean and flea eradication treatment were required to return the property to the standard expected for incoming guests. The charge was applied in accordance with the booking terms accepted at the time of booking. In relation to your other comments, as this is a self-catering property, changes of bedding and towels are not routinely provided during a stay. Had this service been requested, we would have been more than happy to arrange it. Thank you for your feedback regarding the directions. Whilst we have not received similar comments from previous guests, we will review the information provided to ensure it remains clear and easy to follow. We will also consider your suggestion regarding blinds in the kitchen. However, we would note that the kitchen window is not overlooked and foot traffic in this area is extremely limited. Similarly, the frosted bathroom window provides privacy in the same way as many homes, hotels and self-catering properties. We are surprised to hear of the concerns regarding water pressure, as this has not been reported previously. Had we been made aware during your stay, we would have arranged for the matter to be investigated promptly. Due to the rural location of the property, there can occasionally be brief interruptions to the Wi-Fi service. These are generally resolved quickly, and we are pleased alternative connectivity was available during the short period affected. The property is cleaned, inspected and maintained regularly, and no previous or subsequent guests have reported similar concerns. We always encourage guests to raise any issues during their stay so that we can investigate and, where possible, resolve them promptly to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Overall, we are satisfied that the property was presented to a good standard and that the actions taken following your departure were both necessary and reasonable. Property Owner

There were many places around to visit . The beds were comfy and shower very good . The kitchen was well equipped and the cooker was really efficient. It’s very quiet . It would help to have a visitors book and welcome folder with some basic instructions on the facility’s that are there . Also leaflets on places to visit . But all in all a lovely break away .
