The property

A characterful barn conversion nestling in the beautiful Heddon Valley offering the most magnificent panoramic views over the valley to the lake and wooded hillsides beyond.

This sympathetically converted barn is an ideal hideaway within the Exmoor National Park.

Set on a 50 acre traditional hill farm, two miles outside the village of Parracombe, this barn conversion offers a fabulous base for a family of three or a couples getaway. Although still a traditional hill farm with an enclosed field system, Higher Bumsley is now an Environmental / Conservation Farm with a small herd of wild Exmoor ponies, Hebridean sheep, chickens, ducks, geese and cats.

The farm also has a site for one of Britain’s rarest butterflies, the High Brown Fritillary, and is a County Wildlife Site, boasting a diversity of plant species and wildlife including Red Deer (which can sometimes be seen in the fields very early in the morning) and Buzzards, Peregrine Falcons have also been seen of recent times.

This accommodation rests within a superb location for those looking to explore the stunning Exmoor National Park with a public footpath running past the door where you can make your way to the famous Hunters Inn.

The beautiful beaches of North Devon AONB are also within easy reach.

The property, dating from 1862 has been stylishly converted from a former barn and is approached by a long partially unmade lane.

The property is detached and set a short distance from the owner's own home, and all accommodation is on the first floor.

Upon entering this property over the rustic bridge, you are welcomed into a light and spacious open-plan living space with a vaulted ceiling, with fully equipped kitchen and dining area for the budding chef to prepare a mouthwatering meal.

Afterwards, sink into the comfy sofa and light the wood burning stove - a real luxury on those chillier evenings.

Higher Bumsley Barn comes with a double bedroom and a single bedroom, both with panoramic country views, perfect for two or three guests.

Throw open the patio doors and step onto the decked balcony for some alfresco dining or for that morning coffee where you can soak up the stunning views over the Heddon river, across wooded hillsides and out to Exmoor.

The garden offers an ideal area to relax and maybe indulge in a Devon Cream Tea.

If you want to leave your chef’s hat at home, there is a lovely pub in the village of Parracombe, or why nor travel a little further afield to enjoy some seafront eateries to suit every taste.

A trip to Barnstaple or South Molton will satisfy your shopping needs and there are countless beauty spots to enjoy. An energetic hike, cycle or car trip over Exmoor National Park will reveal some outstanding scenery and is a great spot for a Devon picnic.

The fabulous stretches of nearby, blue flag beaches are wonderful for sun-bathing and water sports, and there are plenty of golf courses to choose from with stunning coastal views. Barnstaple also boasts a theatre, cinema, plenty of eateries and nightlife for the young at heart.
