The property

Hawkchurch 3.1 miles.

2 Oak Tree Cottages, located in the Dorset village of Marshwood close to the Devon–Dorset border, is set beside a National Trust ancient hill fort with far reaching views across the Vale of Marshwood and out towards the coast.

Full of rustic charm, with bare original floorboards, exposed beams and low ceilings, this renovated cottage blends its traditional character with the comfort needed for a relaxed countryside break.

It’s an inviting home for families and small groups looking for tranquil countryside, fresh air and easy access to both the hills and the sea.

Inside, the cottage has a relaxed, homely feel.

The fully equipped kitchen makes holiday cooking easy, leading through to the bright conservatory where a large dining table sets the scene for long breakfasts or unhurried suppers.

A living room with a woodburning stove is perfect for unwinding after a day out, while the separate snug with TV gives children their own space.

The balcony opens from the living area through French doors and is a lovely spot for morning coffee with views across the valley, with steps leading down into the cottage’s lush, multi-level garden.

Upstairs, the steep wooden staircase with handrails on both sides adds a touch of old-world character, and the layout has the traditional quirks you’d expect from a cottage of this age.

There are three bedrooms; a double, a zip/link king-size (set up as a king or twins as you prefer), and a further king-size brass bed, all serviced by a ground-floor shower room.

As with many older cottages, the ceilings are low in places, especially at the top of the stairs and in the doorway to the middle bedroom.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden, which is set across different levels with some areas kept a little wilder to keep its natural feel.

There is private parking for one or two small cars behind the wooden gates, with additional space available in the lane if needed, positioned closely against the opposite hedge with wing mirrors folded inwards.

The cottage runs on an organic system, so only eco-friendly products can be used in the kitchen, washing machine, and WC - all of which are provided.

Standard products can be used in the bathroom sink and shower.

Located on the edge of Marshwood village, this is a brilliant base for walkers, cyclists and anyone who loves being outdoors.

From the cottage, you can join footpaths leading straight up to Lamberts Castle, a striking National Trust hill fort with panoramic views over the Marshwood Vale and out to the sea, an unforgettable walk right from the doorstep.

The surrounding lanes and trails offer miles of peaceful countryside, perfect for longer rambles, bike rides, or simply exploring the landscapes that make this corner of Dorset so special.

For days out, Lyme Regis is close by with its sandy beach, iconic Cobb harbour, independent shops and great places to eat.

It’s ideal for families, beachgoers or anyone who enjoys a classic coastal day.

Charmouth is just as easy to reach and is one of the best spots on the Jurassic Coast for fossil hunting, gentle shoreline walks and relaxed beach time.

Both towns offer a lovely mix of coast, history and seaside charm, making them perfect additions to your stay.

A stay at 2 Oak Tree Cottages offers rustic charm, sweeping valley views and the Jurassic Coast within easy reach.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.
