  • "Needs a chopping board and sharp knives and needs a small light in the bedroom and a few more drawers to put your stuff in apart from that."

    Very nice. Thank you

  • "Overall we really enjoyed the week."

Very well placed apartment. Even with no outside space the beautiful gardens are just over the road to walk the dog. The welcome pack was yummy. Lyme Regis has a lot to offer and this is a convenient base. We managed to find parking on the street for free not far away. Negatives - The bed is probably due to be replaced. Very creaky and uncomfortable. A side light by the bed would also be nice to be able to read in bed and not have to get up to switch the light off.

  • "An excellent apartment for a family to share."

The lounge and bedroom were a nice size. The kitchen was well equipped. It was handy having the hot towel tail in the bathroom to dry towels and costumes off. So close to the shops and car park, just an excellent location. Quite quiet. The table with 4 chairs was brilliant. I would definitely recommend. Lots of extra bedding ans towels in the wardrobe. Just a few negatives - Not very pretty inside so I wouldn’t say it was somewhere to spend lots of time in. The sofa and carpet in the lounge were pretty uninspiring. Needed some storage in the bedroom, there was no where to unpack. It definitely needed more lamps to make it lighter and cosier and some of the walls needed repainting as cracks were appearing but for the price it really was an excellent bolt hold for Dorset adventurers!

  • "My partner, dog and I stayed here for 5 days last week."

The location of the apartment is great, albeit on a very steep hill! But we did not mind that. We did find it a struggle with the dog going to the toilet, we had to use the grassy area outside the library which is located to the left of the apartment entrance, so not a huge issue if you don't mind having to kit up every time your dog needs the toilet as there is no balcony or garden area. Not many areas of Lyme Regis are grassy either, so apart form the library you have to walk many hills to find a good spot for the dog to go toilet. For the price paid it is a good little apartment apart from one thing - the shower!! It was disgusting. I read previous reviews thinking it does not sound too bad, but I am shocked that Skyes Cottages rented this out with the issues they are aware of. I tried to take a shower and genuinely, within 3-4 minutes the water within the shower basin was up to my ankles and the water pressure is so poor that it would take twice as long to shower. As a woman with long hair I had to stop the shower and turn it off and on again throughout to avoid flooding the bathroom. The drainage brings up lots of hair and dirt from the plug which just looks unsanitary. Also, the first time I took a shower I was not aware that the seal was also gone in the top corner (as the apartment is on a slant the water congregates to that side) and it ended up with some water on the floor. I used all the towels they provided to soak up the water and stop any more water trickling out the broken seal. Luckily we brought our own towels too otherwise we would have been without from this. Due to this experience we personally would not return to the retreat, as we like to go walking - the last thing you want when you're tired and sweaty is to struggle with getting a shower. However, all in all, if you want a cheap get away then this place is a nice option with some nice touches (you get a goody bag of treats) and its clean, apart from the shower.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the issue with the shower, we're sorry to hear of your experience. We have spoken to the owner and have organised to rectify the issue next week. Although the property is advertised as accepting a pet the marketing does not state that there is any outside space. We have revised the marketing to make this clearer for future guests. It's that you choose to stay in Lyme as there certainly are plenty of options for walking in the area, including the Undercliff route along to Axmouth. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time in the property."

It made for an ideal base for Lyme Regis as it was situated immediately off the main high street so just a short (and pleasant) walk to the beach front either through the town or via the gardens which which were literally just around the corner. The car park was a short walk from the flat and given the narrow streets (and lack of on-street parking), this was absolutely fine. We have two small children who shared the sofa bed with no issue whatsoever.

  • "The Retreat is a lovely little flat and in a perfect location right on the main street of Lyme Regis."

The goody bag with local produce and treats, along with a fresh cleaning sponge and cloth was a lovely touch and really appreciated, as were the eco cleaning products. There were a few concerns I had, which are easy to resolve and would make the stay so much nicer: - The shower is very slow draining- there is a laminated sign in the bathroom saying as much, so I suspect this has been an issue for some time, but with a shallow base in the shower, the water only needs to run for a few minutes before it overflows. Throughout my stay the shower never completely drained, despite 24 hours between use, and I found myself having to stand in mucky water (with floating bits of hair that didn't belong to me) if I wanted to shower. This really needs to be addressed as it's not fit for purpose as it is. - The bed is really uncomfortable- I saw this on another review and didn't think much of it as I can usually sleep anywhere, but it truly is a very uncomfortable and small bed that could do with replacing. I have no idea how two adults can both fit on it to be honest. - Lighting in the living room is not very bright. Fine if you're watching tv or having a romantic eve, but no use for eating, reading, doing a puzzle etc. It'd be great to have an extra lamp or something to add more focused light if required - Finally, it didn't feel like the place had been vacuumed prior to my stay. There were long hairs everywhere (clumps of them in the bedroom around the dressing table) that ended up in the bed, in the shower, on my clothes and pretty much everywhere in between throughout the stay, which can be quite off-putting when they're not yours. Like I said, easy things to resolve, and once sorted, I'd happily stay again. One word of warning, just watch your head going into the living room if you're over 5"9 as it's a really low doorway and leaves quite a bump when you hit your head!

Thank you for your feedback. We are looking to resolve the shower draining issue which is complicated as we need to get into the property below but will be rectified. We have also ordered a new mattress for the bedroom. We appreciate you taking the time to offer your constructive thoughts and hope you choose to stay again in The Retreat in the future, Property Owner

  • "The shower cubicle's drainage doesn't work."

The water pressure is good for the first few seconds and low afterwards. We had to clear the water away from the bathroom floor each time after we had a shower. We worried the water would leak to the ground floor. The sofa bed was uncomfortable.

  • "Come nightfall, the living room lighting is dingy and insufficient to read by."

Additional lighting, uplighter and/or reading lamps would be beneficial. We felt the bed mattress in the main bedroom was too hard and creaky. A king-size bed would be a worthwhile upgrade. Apart from that we enjoyed the property and it's location. The parking permit was much appreciated.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We have ordered additional lighting and a new mattress for the bedroom. Property Owner
