The owner was in the garden and as we arrived he greated us and explained about the electronic gate and how to use the keypad to enter the property. The property itself was lovely and laid out really well , very comfortable and lots of books and guides to help you visit the local area. Everything you need was supplied from washing up liquid , dishwasher tablets and washing tablets for the washing machine. I would like to thank Maureen and Phil for making our stay at Shepherds Retreat a safe and relaxing stay and I look forward to returning in the future.

The property

A stylish and well-thought-out first floor, architect-designed, modern eaves apartment situated in a conservation area within the grounds of the owner's delightful 17th century thatched cottage, in the charming Somerset village of Charlton Mackrell.

With views over the owner’s carefully-tended gardens and a little village lane, this attractive apartment has been thoughtfully furnished and equipped with everything you need to create a comfortable self-catering experience!

There's character sloping ceilings but ample headroom for taller guests, a super well-equipped kitchen area, with an adjacent breakfast bar, as well as dining and sitting areas, all attractively decorated and imaginatively set out, together with a really comfortable bedroom with a king-size double bed and a super shower.

A really lovely comfortable base to return to after your adventurous days out!

Outside, you can enjoy sipping a glass of your favourite tipple on your private patio or stroll around the owner's much admired gardens.

There's lots to see and do within an easy drive of your Charlton Mackrell holiday base, from the nearby lovely walled gardens of Lytes Cary, exploring the pretty town of Somerton, once the ancient capital of Wessex, to ancient Glastonbury and beautiful Montacute House and gardens.

A hidden gem of a holiday property in a delightful village, a perfect base for a fascinating Somerset holiday!
