  • "The police station is a lovely beautifully kept property."

Very clean and comfortable. The views from the sitting room were stunning down over Chesil Beach with magnificent sunsets. There is much to do on the doorstep. The SW Coastal Path. Walk to the Chesil Beach visitor centre and bird hide. The WW2 private museum and more. A lovely stay thank you.

  • "Beautiful house, very clean and comfortable."

Lovely view of the sea from the front bedroom windows. Managed to park outside the house on the road most of the week. Easy walking distance from Portland Castle and DDay museum and the start of the Portland coastal walk! (We started at Cove House pub).

The Portland Coastal Walk is amazing, although most finish in the Cove House Inn, lol. (lovely pub). We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Firstly the house is lovely and we felt very at home."

Kids loved the space to play hide and seek but the bonus park outside front door was fab. Spotlessly clean and decor was beautiful. Kitchen was very long and spaced out and it was a shame you couldn’t see lovely court yard. However I see the kitchen is next on the list for renovation. TV was very temperamental, sometimes free Sat wouldn’t work. Extra glazing in twin room would be beneficial as quite loud on Road. Parking at rear wasn’t great but wasn’t helped by other home owner parking three vehicles (not the friendliest encounter with them). The road got busy but usually found a spot outside. We all had a lovely stay, thank you.

Thank you for your feedback, always appreciated. The secondary glazing in the kids bedroom is scheduled for the very near future; we had someone come and measure for this last week. (The kitchen will definitely be longer in the pipeline!). We tested the FreeSat box and could find no fault, I apologise for any inconvenience you had. As previously stated in our feedback to other guests, and to advise future guests, the car parking spot is challenging, particularly if you are not accustomed to the layout of the property, and we are considering removing this from the listing, but there are no excuses for 'unfriendly encounters' from our neighbour. The people of Portland are brilliant and very friendly and I am glad you had a lovely time. Property Owner

  • "The rooms downstairs are spacious and bright."

The view on the sea from the living room is simply stunning. The decoration is pleasantly neutral. The central heating worked flawlessly and we really enjoyed the comfort of the additional gas fire in the living room on those few days when it was rainy, windy, and cold. Despite being on one of Portland’s main roads, the house is quiet thanks to the fitted double windows (although we wonder why the ‘children’s bedroom’ lacked the double window). The home was overall spotless. Inexplicably, though, those responsible for cleaning should have noticed that the dishes hadn’t been cleaned before they were put back in the cupboards.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, it really does help shape what we would like to do next. We looked into installing the double glazing to the children's bedroom in the Spring of this year. To be honest we baulked at the 'north of £1.5k quotes' we received for a single sash window of secondary glazing, particularly as we had some additional unexpected costs we had to factor in at this time. However, we will be looking to complete this work in Autumn 2025, which will be good for the winter bookings. We trust it did not impact you significantly, as it does not our own children after a fun day out and about! We will obviously raise with the cleaning team and Dreams your concern regarding the dirty dishes, as this is unacceptable. Thanks for the other positive comments, it really is quite cozy with the fire lit. Property Owner

  • "On arrival to the apartment, we found it easily enough."

However, it wasn’t that clear where the allocated parking spot was. When we did figure it out we walked down the stairs and found the back gate to the property. But we couldn’t enter via this route as there was no key safe at this entrance. We tried to find our way to the front of the property and as part of wandering around looking lost, someone asked if we needed help. They pointed us in the right direction and we found the front porch and the key safe. We let ourselves in and first impressions were good. The apartment was large, spacious and well equipped. We moved the car down to the side of the road at the front of the building and unloaded the luggage and brought it in through the front door. We then took the car back to the rear of the building to the allocated parking space before returning to the apartment to unpack. We were slightly disappointed to realise that the place had not been dusted or hovered - especially since we were not allowed in until 4pm (presumably to allow a full and proper clean post Covid). We ran the hoover around quickly to get rid of the worst, but didn’t bother with any dusting. I think the owners need to reassess the quality of their cleaning staff. We slept in the front room with the ensuite for the first couple of nights but didn’t sleep well as the bed frame was squeaking every time we moved. We relocated to the back bedroom on night 3 and stayed there for the rest of the holiday and we slept much better. There was a card in the apartment explaining how to use the TV. It was entitled “Easy TV User”. I did manage to access the streaming channels OK (Netflix and Prime), but never managed to access Freeview/terrestrial channels. It just kept saying “no signal”. Now maybe I was doing something wrong, but I’m usually pretty good at working tech stuff out. I gave up on this though and that was OK - we watched the streaming services and were OK with that. Maybe if there is a fault with the freesat box it needs looking at. We also had a small leak from the ensuite sink and the shower tray kept filling up and threatening to overflow. This was probably one of the more expensive holiday homes we have ever rented. But it was the first time away for over a year, due to health issues, and we booked quite late and we wanted something a bit special (and also that would fit in with mobility issues). The views of the bay from the front of the house were spectacular, the equipment levels were very good the parking out the front was sufficient (we gave up on the allocated space out the back as it was incredibly difficult to get in and out of). I did feel that for the price, the accommodation was more style over substance and we have had much better for less. If we ever come back to Portland we will be booking somewhere else to stay.

We always welcome feedback. However, this has been our lowest review since we have invited guests to the property, which has been for several years now, and it feels like the opposite of the 100% feedback from the week before, also from experienced short term let guests. So please permit our response: There is ample on-street parking at the front of the property which is ideal for unloading on arrival. However, it does get busy during peak season, particularly in the evenings, so the rear parking spot is often handy during the summer holiday period when returning later in the day. Parking at the front of the property is usually fine at all other times. Admittedly the parking spot at the rear and access route is difficult to navigate on first arrival, but once orientated is fairly simple. We have not put a key safe on the back gate for increased security, but we might review this. We have obviously raised your concerns with Dreams following this review. We just wished you had raised them on arrival, either with Dreams, or with us directly, as we are always 'on it' and want the very best for our guests. I am pleased to report that Dreams have solved the issues that you have reported. There is also a clear indication (marked in red) on the property listing that this property has step access to both the front and rear of the property. Therefore guests with 'health and mobility issues', that you mentioned in your feedback, may wish to consider for any future bookings. I hope this feedback has addressed the points you have raised and given confidence to potential guests. Property Owner

  • "The cottage/house exceeded our expectations."

We are 5 adults, quite used to renting holiday homes short term. Our stay was 4 days, the property is spacious, very well equipped and had the feel of a well looked after home with furnishings and decor to suit. The views to the bay are stunning, good sunsets to see, we were lucky with the weather, and there are plenty of places to see within a short drive. An excellent break and a big thank you to the owners.

  • "This really is a ‘home from home’."

Beautiful property, tastefully decorated, well equipped- such attention to detail. It’s location is ideal for those wanting to walk/explore the Jurassic coast, plus the sunsets are amazing. This was our first time in a holiday rental (wanted a break from usual 4/5 star hotels) and ‘wow’ - was indeed a 4/5 star retreat with the added benefit of being able to eat/ sleep etc at our discretion. Should the owners of this particular cottage set-up elsewhere, I want to be the first to know.

Possibly one of our best feedbacks, thank you. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Police Station, we love it too! Property Owner

  • "We loved the courtyard."

Such a lovely place to relax with our 20month grandson. He enjoyed watering the planrers. The kitchen was really well equipped and the appliances easy to use. The beds were comfy and we appreciated the hangers in the wardrobe. We thought the house had a warm welcoming feel and was an ideal place to explore the area. Castle cove was a hit although you have to arrive early to park along the road. We had a lovely holiday.

So glad you had a great holiday. Thank you for the positive feedback and for your grandson watering those planters, they definitely needed it after the hot spell. You are welcome to follow us on Instagram: 1atheoldpolicestation_portland Property Owner
