  • "Yes, I think you need to take a look at the shower, every morning there was numerous bugs not only in the shower tray but also climbing the walls… somewhat disconcerting."

  • "The Cottage not easy to find as sign for Hill View cottages pointing towards Bridport."

Drove past without seeing it also . Sat nav didn't pick up last part of postcode. Not sure why.

  • "I wasn't expecting a lot from the cottage, due to the negative comments."

However, I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. It was nice having washing up liquid, washing powder, cleaning fluid and cloths there on arrival. I also liked the recycling boxes. The beds were comfortable, always a bonus.

  • "Generally OK, the location is not great though directly beside the A35, lots of heavy goods vehicles thundering past from 5am until midnight."

Very difficult to find the property from the west, especially as the directions given were from the east only. Enough beds for the family, although the double beds were very uncomfortable, didn't sleep through at all for the whole week. Not enough seating in the lounge for a family of six. Internet was patchy to the point of not being able to use it most nights for Netflix etc.

  • "House was in good location for visiting Bridport, West Bay areas."

Not really suitable for 4 adults and 2 children. Would be ok for 2 adults and children. No bedroom furniture to hang clothes. Someone else's shoes left under bed and not cleaned very well at all. Property has been sold so felt like owners were no longer interested in the upkeep of it. Had to purchase own kettle descale before it was fit to use, bread crumbs in drawers. Had to wash everything before use. Could be made nicer if cleaned correctly and updated for 4 people.

  • "Needs updating a little, the bedroom draws smell fusty and couldn’t use them, the bed linen has seen better days, the floors where dirty , it needs a good deep cleaning."

The garden is only a boxed in courtyard which was disappointing. The road noise horrendous.

  • "Willow Cottage was a lovely holiday cottage providing easy access to Bridport, Weymouth and other local attractions by road."

It is is located right next to the A35 and there is significant road noise outsude - this didn't disturb us inside the cottage, affect our sleep, or detract from our enjoyment. The place has a certain amount of character and charm and we felt it offered good value. We feel that some of the other reviews that have been written are incredibly harsh and do not reflect the reality. In particular - the beds were absolutely fine and there was no smell of damp.

  • "No mention that the cottage was on a dual carriageway which was extremely noisy."

The shower was a dribble and all the beds squeaked whenever you moved and the mattresses were uncomfortable. The cottage smelled of damp. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights but went home after 1.

  • "Nothing actually went wrong but the site sitting almost on the A35 was one very difficult to find from the information given and the road noise was to say the least was very distracting."

I would suggest the position of Willow Cottage is stated in the write up and the directions to get there are amended as follows -- Coming from Dorchester direction turn left into Driveway of Hillview Cottage and Touring Caravan Park go up driveway toward first set of cottages follow driveway around these to Willow Cottage at far end of driveway. This would have saved us the best part of an hour because we were looking for Willow cottage on a road, the first road turning being someway passed the site and then the second and then we thought the directions were from Bridport.. We eventually found the site phoning home for our son to look at the Google satellite map

  • "A lovely cottage with comfortable bedrooms."

The road next to the residence was very noisy during the night (luckily for us the road was closed for part of the week for roadworks). Plenty of lovely places to visit in the surrounding area.

  • "Disappointing."

The kitchen was dirty. We had to clean all of the glassware before use it was all smeared and we are not especially fastidious. We washed all of the table mats which had little food deposits on them. We had to clean all the bits of food out of the microwave. Wen had to clean the greasy bowl and kitchen sink before anything else. We found a large piece of broken glass probably from a wine glass at the bottom of the empty dishwasher. The dishwasher cycle did not get the dishes clean despite trying different cycles. We ended up hand washing everything. The rubber lining of the old cooker was hanging off and the oven did not maintain temperature. There were only 5 table knives and yet the cottage was for 6 people. We bought some extras and left them there. All of the so called "sharp" knives were extremely blunt and so we bought two ourselves - these we took home! The crockery was only the bare minimum. There was no wine opener - not what you want to find on your first night and unable to open our wine. There was only storage space in one of the bedrooms and absolutely not anything at all (not even a hook on the back of the doors) of the other two bedrooms. We felt also that there was no mention of the fact that the cottage was right up next to a major and busy A road. Apart from that, everything was fine !!!!!!!!!!!!

About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
