Just as advertised but better! Excellent owners who were available next door but not intrusive in any way. The property was excellently clean on arrival and there was everything we needed and more available to us. The location was quiet and beautiful and although the village did not have much, there was a park for the children to play in within walking distance with a cricket club behind we could get a drink at before walking home. • "This is a beautiful spacious property in a small village - it really is a ‘Retreat."

’ The owners have thought about every aspect and their care and attention to detail is obvious everywhere. It has a beautiful well tended but practical garden to sit and and relax in, with views across fields. The house was spotless with enough of everything for 10 people. The doors that open fully from the dining area to the garden is a lovely design feature which we used on a few occasions. It was a perfect location for our niece to leave from for her wedding at nearby Yarlington Barn. Owners Lucy and John are next door but not intrusive at all, just there when we had a couple of questions. The listing says max 3 cars but in fact you could easily fit four. This might be important for family groups coming from different locations. We enjoyed a very happy and stress free week at this wonderful property. Thanks Lucy for the welcome milk, bubbles and homemade cider apple cake. Yummy

  • "This is an extremely practical house, spacious and tastefully furnished."

We spent a week there in the Winter and were toasty warm and very comfortable. There was nothing we needed and our large group ranged from 3 to 71 years. WONDERFUL. There were logs for the two log burners and a delicious cake and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. Oh yes and milk and milk shakes from a local farm. The children were delighted and the grandchildren who only stayed over the weekend just settled in and it was time to leave. Such a shame. I spent the rest of the week with a friend walking and talking, eating and enjoying the peace. Brean Beach is a closeby must for a walk and a cuppa at the N T cafe. Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury (fabulous) and the Clarks Outlet for a little retail therapy. Then Exmouth for a real treat and lunch at Mickys Restaurant where we ate outside watching the water sports at sea on a glorious November day. All in all an unforgettable week. A celebration for my 70th last year when life was a little different. Almost back to normal.

The views from the house are stunning and the location is perfect! The house is very spacious, there were 8 of us but there are plenty of room to do things together and/or have a quiet space for yourself. The owners, John & Lucy, have thought about every detail, it is clean and has all the mod cons you need for a worry-free stay. They even had a welcome bubbly and a homemade cake for us. Even before our arrival, Lucy has sent an email which contained useful information about the house selection of places to visit, and restaurant recommendations. Thank you John & Lucy for being such gracious hosts and for creating a beautiful house and renting it out so we were able to make so many wonderful memories with family.

If like me you have high expectations when you go away, you will not be disappointed staying at The Retreat, the owners Lucy and John have thought about everything. Location is perfect, only 15 mins drive to Western Super Mare, Burnham On Sea and Brean Sands - we visited them all!! The Retreat is in a quiet countryside location, the horses go past every morning which the kids loved, Arlo was their favourite! Not to mention the cow’s as your neighbours! The kitchen has everything you need for home cooking, equally there are lots of local restaurants and takeaways to use - Chutney’s Indian, Papa’s Fish and chips and Hobbs boat Inn are those we chose and really enjoyed. Lucy and John have really great knowledge of the area so worth asking for recommendations. The house itself is very spacious, we loved opening the doors up in the kitchen having BBQ’s whilst watching the children playing in the garden. The games room came in handy too. We hope to return again one day, thanks Lucy and John

Having stayed in some pretty lovely holiday homes across the UK, we think this property is right up there with the best of them. Everything is very new and in great condition, and the house is both spacious and spotless. The lovely hosts Lucy and John live next door and are super friendly, and will do anything to help you out. The house is in a beautiful rural setting, with walks on the doorstep, and lots to do in the local area. ..6 adults and 4 children aged 18months to 9 years. It is a beautiful property, immaculately decorated and furnished with first rate appliances and contains everything you could need for a relaxing break. The pictures don't do the house justice, as it is far more spacious than it appears. Lucy and John were excellent hosts and welcomed us with delicious cake, bubbly, fresh farm milk and sweet treats for the children. Knowing that they were close by for any help or advice was very reassuring, especially when we ordered a delivery to the wrong post code! The Retreat is in a great location for exploring the area, as there is so much to see and do within a 10-15 mile radius, from the grandeur of Cheddar Gorge to the bustle of Weston Pier. There were also some lovely pub/restaurants in the area for a tasty lunch. Even Storm Dennis didn't dampen our spirits as the children were always keen to get back to our 'holiday home' and would have been quite happy to stay in all day if we let them! We would love to return one day...hopefully in better weather...to fully experience the outdoor activities that the locality has to offer.

We were a family of 10 (incl. 2 children) staying over Christmas and there was ample space, with lots of different areas to spread out into if you wanted a bit of quiet time! The kitchen/family area was the hub and just a really lovely large space. The cottage was decorated perfectly to ensure we enjoyed Christmas to the fullest; we also thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Eve nativity at the local church, as well as some local walks. The cottage was kitted out with everything you could need, and all appliances were top spec (a dream kitchen!). The owners live next door and couldn’t be more helpful. Hopefully we will come back to stay again at some point!

  • "The Retreat is a truly impressive, well thought out, newly renovated cottage which is beautifully finished to the highest standards."

The photographs online really do not do the house justice - as a single example it is far more spacious than any of the images suggest. We take my parents ( 91 and 93) on holiday two or three times a year and it is not easy to find holiday homes with a good downstairs bedroom, 5 star hotel quality en-suite with a large low threshold shower and a sitting room with a decent ( 50+ inch 4K) TV with Netflix for them to enjoy at night. If you like to cook on holiday then the kitchen has top of the range Neff ovens and an induction hob while the adjacent dining area is light, comfortable and perfect for entertaining. Extensive off lane parking is a bonus and the setting is quiet while giving easy access to the coast and Wells, Glastonbury and Street etc. And a huge bonus was the welcome, kindness and generosity of spirit from Lucy and John - which in our many years of holiday rental experience is rare. For which, much thanks - it made our holiday. ( As well as the Cava and delicious Apple Cider cake!)
