Ideal for two people and good location. Hope to return next year

  • "We had a cosy and comfortable stay in this compact holiday let and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners."

Thanks to ideal location of the property, we were able to get out and explore various areas of Somerset and Dorset including Lyme Regis, Clarks Outlet Shopping Village, Wells and Hestercombe House & Gardens. With two small children, having Crewkerne Aqua Centre just a five minute drive from the property came in really handy for those rainy days!

We had glorious weather and enjoyed sitting outside too. The location is perfect for exploring both Dorset as well as Somerset with the south coast only half an hour’s drive away. The owners are friendly and caring, yet respect your privacy. We strongly recommend it to anyone longing for a rural retreat to unwind in.

Beautiful setting and peaceful. It had everything we needed and plenty of information left in the property regarding things to do (although we had ideas anyway). The owners were very helpful and were available on arrival and checked on us in the week to make sure everything was ok. Would definitely look at staying again next time we wish to visit the area (stayed 19/08-26/08).

  • "We really enjoyed our stay!"

the cabin was very cozy ,being very well insulated we never felt cold at any time and this was early October it has a nice "feel" that made us relax straight away!. The facilitys were more than enough(lovely bathroom) and the welcoming touch of flowers in a vase by the table and milk in the fridge was most welcome and added to the homely atmosphere!. The semi- remote location is just enough for peace and quiet (other than the odd car or tractor passing early in the morning or in the evening) but close enough shops and pubs to not feel isolated with Crewkerne a 5 minute drive away, all in all a good hub to relax and/or visit local places of interest, but be aware you are in the countryside so places you may want to visit is probably at least 20miles/or an hours drive away!. We had the chance to chat with one of the owners who popped over to ask if we had a nice stay! nice people whom genuinely care that you have a relaxing holiday and value your opinions and feedback! all in all a good experience we would recommend this cabin. and will be returning ourselves next year finances permitting!.

  • "We had a lovely time staying at the Shippen and it was perfect for our family holiday."

Very quiet in a beautiful countryside location and a good base to explore Somerset from. The property was immaculate, very clean and we had everything we needed. Bed and pillows were so comfortable and just what we needed after a long day out. Plenty of towels and nice shower. Kitchen area was great and whilst there wasn’t much room to store food, this wasn’t a problem and we managed just fine. It was a nice touch having tea/coffee/sugar and some milk in the fridge when we arrived. The kids loved the outdoor area and we liked sitting with the back doors open in the evening as the day cooled down. Good to have the dvds, Amazon fire stick and a couple of games (although we apologise for spoiling the peaceful evenings when dobble and snakes and ladders became too competitive!). Thanks for a great stay. We’d definitely come again.

We really enjoyed staying there and our girls loved being able to play in the garden with the doors to the living room left wide open for them to come and go as they pleased. We also enjoyed the regular visits from various birds in the garden and the sound of birdsong. Lovely little village and also great location for exploring other areas further afield such as the Jurassic coast.

So quiet, and at night really dark as there's no air pollution. Everything you need is there, although with a bit of tweaking more storage space for the kitchen. Unfortunately not a lot of work/prep space in the kitchen. But a good hob and oven. Really great hot water all the time. A great nights sleep in one of the most comfortable beds you'll find. Good Broadband and loved Netflix etc. Sarah was really helpful, and loved the nice little touch of chocolates and a bottle of milk in the fridge. If in the area, would go back for the solitude. Great butchers and Chinese takeaway in Crewkerne. After over 18 months since our last break, it was nice to get away and have a change.

  • "We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the accommodation."

Seat cushions on the kitchen chairs were dirty and stained. The oven was dirty as were some of the oven trays. We felt we had to wash everything before being able to use them. My husband went round with my stick and a cloth to get rid of cobwebs. The photographs of the property were misleading making the place look bigger than it actually was. We were also plagued by gnats and were unable to open the doors and windows. Apart from that we had an enjoyable holiday.

Dear Mr & Mrs Hardingham, I wish to apologise, in writing, which I have done by phone also. It was such a shame your experience was spoilt by the fact I employed a cleaner for the first time prior to your visit. The job of cleaning was obviously not carried out properly and has now been rectified. So glad you enjoyed your holiday in Somerset in spite of this. You are welcome back to a very clean Shippen any time. Property Owner

Kitchen area slightly cramped for 4 of us, but was no big deal and we had expected this from the photos/reviews. Good location with nice pub only 10 mins away, serving good beer and food. • "We had a lovely holiday at The Shippen."

It was really comfortable, clean and warm. The bed was especially comfortable. The only thing that let it down was the size of the kitchen, which looked bigger in the picture. However, it was very small and cramped, with hardly any counter space, and there was not a cupboard where we could put the supplies which we brought with us. Also the fridge is very large, but a fridge freezer would have been better. It was nice to have the smart TV with Freeview Play and Amazon Prime, as being the winter, we watched the TV a lot in the evenings. There was some milk in the fridge when we arrived, also a nice plant on the window sill, lovely welcoming touches. The Shippen is very convenient for several National Trust properties, and not too far from the coast. The owners were unobtrusive, in fact we only saw Nick once, just after we arrived. All in all we had a good relaxing break, and the weather was really kind to us.
