  • "It is a very comfortable and super clean cottage, full of very nice thoughtful little touches."

The only thing that could be improved is the shower, it never seemed to get quite hot enough. Also, as dog owners we would have appreciated a fenced garden. We had a very enjoyable week there nonetheless.

  • "This was our second stay at Mimosa."

Very clean and comfortable cottage, in lovely surroundings with great views of the sea. The conservatory was a great space for my dog to sleep in, with plenty of room for him to wander around. It’s a short drive to other beaches and Bridport/West Bay, and Sainsbury’s deliver groceries to the address if needed. Looking forward to a return visit.

You could see the sea and walk to it too. New kitchen and decor, the photos didn’t do it justice. Log fire, underfloor heating, so cosy. I would highly recommend this cottage especially if you want disabled facility’s, or not. The owners were wonderful, no negatives

  • "We always have trouble finding a suitable place for my mum as she has specific needs but this cottage was near perfect."

Great shower room with proper shower chair, bars everywhere to help her transfer and easy access for us to help her in the night with the jack and jill bathroom, she didnt need her seat raiser as the toilet is already higher. She had a wonderful birthday and loved seeing all the beautiful sights around especially the Swannery, even the weather which was awful couldn't dampen our spirits.

  • "The bungalow was really lovely and very good for the less able."

Access was ideal with lots of space for wheelchair/ scooter etc. It was clean and spacious in a beautiful setting and there was enough of everything to live and cater for the week. Lots of room for the dog crate and for him to exercise in the conservatory. No need to publish the following as we did have a lovely time. Small negatives:- The toaster only had one side working. The shower tends to run all over the place including the double bedroom so a mop would have been useful to dry and to clean. The mattress on the single bed I slept in was a bit tired, the springs made themselves known. To be really picky a riser recliner would have been ideal but I know that's not an essential for most visitors. Apologies for forgetting to turn the dishwasher on, I remembered when we were half way home.

  • "Brilliant location and views are amazing."

Good amount of space, but quite a lot of furniture if one of the party is staying in a wheelchair. There is space to move things around as long as one of the party is strong enough. I suspect the owner would help if needed as he seemed very nice. The photos on the website don't do the place justice as it has been decorated with a new kitchen and furniture. Likewise the instructions in the property explain how to use the previous appliances. The only downside is the double bed is quite small and seems to be balanced on a smaller bed base. This means a wheelchair user has the choice about which side of the bed to sleep on which may not be possible with a larger bed in the room. The beach really is only 5 mins away, as is a fabulous restaurant (not open on Mon&Tues). If you have a dog, the gardens aren't enclosed, but they are expansive!

  • "This property is in a lovely setting but it is imossible to make it properly secure as several of the window catches are broken."

It would be useful if there was a fence and gate across the entrance to the garden and that the entry gate and fence were dog secure ( too easy for a small dog to get through) so you can let the dog be free to go in and out of the property with the patio doors open. Other than that the place was great and we had a wonderful time.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great position, loads of space."

Our autistic adult son loved it, the view of the sea and the garden and the quiet position. The connected shower room was useful for me to help him when required with personal care. It was a shame we had to leave early on the Tuesday instead of the Friday as he had decided beforehand that he only wanted to go for a long weekend due to ongoing worries about the pandemic, amongst other reasons he couldn’t explain (Autistic logic!) as last year’s cottage holiday had to be cancelled. We did not change the booking as we thought he might change his mind. The only thing was that the double bed was not comfortable for us, and thought a bigger hotel size bed would still fit in that room. We are used to a King size bed and the restless sleeper stopped the partner sleeping too as the bed was so springy and small. Also the sinks in the shower room and bathroom are very small. My son’s big hands filled it up and he had difficulty using it for washing when not showering. It was great to have the extra space and chairs in the lobby area and choice to spend time away from lounge area, and also the seating in the garden. We had a lovely time and would go again, except my autistic son likes to go to a different cottage every year. I would definitely recommend this people especially with disabled relatives or friends.

  • "One of our party was disabled and shielding."

Following COVID 19 Lockdown etc. he wanted to cancel the holiday. You did not respond to any of our emails and we could not contact you by 'phone. In the end we felt that we had no option but to continue with the holiday. ironically, upon informing you that we were still going on holiday, we immediately received a reply via email. Luckily for us our latest lockdown (Wrexham) occurred whilst we were on our last day of holiday. Although the accommodation was nice, a dishwasher would have been welcomed, especially when considering COVID 19 decontamination. We had no advice or assistance regarding the cancellation or transfer of the holiday to another date. This experience has meant that we will never consider booking another holiday through Sykes. Although being advised that the Post Code should not be used for SatNav purposes, it would have been useful to mention that the actual Post Code given in the instructions was that of the Owners home address, not the holiday cottage! This was approx. 12 miles away near Weymouth, not West Bexington, where the property was.

  • "This cottage is perfect for wheelchair users and the owners have tried to think of everything including height adjustable kitchen sink and cooker hob, medium height oven, tiled flooring throughout without any door bars and both bedrooms have access directly off the conservatory with wide doors and the bathrooms are designed with space for chairs and the shower room even has a waterproof shower chair (on wheels)."

The location is fantastic with lovely views from the little patio area by the lawn and the grounds around the cottage are lovely with lots of areas to explore and a field for dog walking too. There are also great walks from the property for our doggy. THe Wifi and TV services are excellent. Only one small negative for us, the sofa was not comfortable but that is just a personal thing - it did mean we didn't relax in the evenings as much a we normally do when away. The parking is excellent so close to the entrance and the spaces are big so wheelchair access is allowed for.

  • "As a wheelchair user I have found Mimosa Cottage suitable for my needs."

It has a lot of ground around the site as an orchard which is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The only downside being the steep access road and lack of level parking. This caused a few issues with the use of the access ramp to my vehicle but was resolved satisfactorily with some communication with the owners.

  • "Mimosa- This cottage is located in a beautiful quiet setting, yet a short walk to a pebble beach and lovely hotel (The Manor) with a stunning terrace and beer garden."

The gardens of the cottage are vast (be careful if you have a wandering dog) and again beautiful with exceptional views. In terms of condition and facilities this is what let’s the cottage down. It is fully wheelchair adapted ( not just accessible) which is a great point and sizing of bedrooms and conservatory are fine but the open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area is very small and restricted. The overall cleanliness was good on arrival except for the windows outside. The kitchen is in a bad need of replacement and really the whole place needs a total refit to bring it up to date and to also, in my opinion, make it value for money. It needs to include basics like a dishwasher in this modern world and new hard and soft furnishings, especially the outside garden furniture needs replacing. The bedroom wardrobes are a curtain across a rail at low level in the corner! Whilst this cottage advertises from £479 price tag, when you pay £1200 for 1 week in July it is not value for money. Would I come again? I would certainly come to the location without doubt and if I was paying around £500 I would feel it acceptable and value for money, but not with a £1200+ price tag.

  • "This was our second visit to Mimosa."

As a wheel chair user I find that the cottage meets my needs and I am able to remain independent. I have found that a lot of wheelchair friendly cottages are not as good as they claim to be. Mimosa cottage is all on one level and the fixtures are designed for the disabled. The only minor comments I would make, but not criticisms, are, the beds are a little low and the cottage would benefit from an update. Apart from the steep drive to access the cottage, all other areas are easy to negotiate in a wheelchair. We will be visiting again soon.

Nice touches like the ladder pull up attached to the bed and rising lowering work tops, and cooker in the kitchen made life a lot easier. Level access throughout and an easy push into the gardens and fantastic view. Henry and Sue were lovely and offered any assistance we needed. A short electric scoot to the Manor and Club House restaurants meant that we were spoiled for good food, but cooking at home was just as easy.

  • "The wet room could of been cleaner around the plug area on floor, it needed a good floor cleaner, one half of toaster not working and it would of been nicer to have a bigger freezer as the small fridge only had a small top freezer not enough room if 4 people staying and you needed ice cream and frozen foods."

But over all we enjoyed our stay and would return in the future

About the location

Abbotsbury 3 miles; Bridport 6 miles.

Lying next to the sea and Chesil Beach, equidistant between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, is the small village of West Bexington. This is a stunning area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an area of Special Scientific Interest - pebbled Chesil Beach, which extends for 14 miles, from Burton Bradstock to the Portland peninsula, is part of the Jurassic Coast and now a World Heritage Site. Fishermen and walkers are well provided for, as a great variety of fish can be caught at any time of year, and the South West Coastal Path runs right alongside the beach. Only confident swimmers should attept to swim here, but Weymouth, offering lovely, gently shelving sands, is only a short drive away. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of the village. No journey to this area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Abbotsbury, 3 miles, with its Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub Tropical Gardens, with Dorchester, Bridport, and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.
