“The cottage was not as clean as expected, as the availability was delayed to a covid deep clean.”
There were dirty finger marks around the handle of the bathroom door. The back yard was filthy, and the drain was blocked. There was a dirty ashtray( a shell) on the table in the garden. The windows were do dirty, that someone had written on one with their finger, the word "Help". I have photos if they are helpful. The yard was so tiny, that my dog would not use it as an outside space. The whole point of booking a cottage with garden, is so that I don't have to go out last thing at night, in the dark, for the dog to have a wee. My dog refused to do anything, and if he had, it would not have gone down the blocked drain, anyway. I could stand in the middle of the yard, and comfortably put my hand on each wall around me. There was nothing to say that one of those walls also had next doors' bathroom window which opened out onto the yard, so not private, and when in the yard, all I kept hearing, was people in and out of the bathroom, on the loo etc.The fence you can see through the living room window, belongs to a pub, and every evening, when you are trying to sleep, they are rolling empty metal beer barrels down the street, to the gate. The next door neighbour is renovating their cottage, so there was constant banging coming from them breaking down a wall or something, and at night their small child was screaming, with nightmares or something. There was no double glazing, and the old sash windows were difficult to open, and the cottage was cold in the evening. There was a heater in the living room, which blew warm air, but it was noisy, and I wasn't sure warm air would be safe, as it could circulate virus germs which may hang around. There was nowhere to park outside, so loading and unloading was a big problem. There was supposedly places to park, but any cars parked down that road had many scrapes and dents, caused by other vehicles trying to pass through. I had to park many streets away ( Norwich street), where I just managed to find one space, and had to leave the car there all week, in case I couldn't repark.
My previous experiences have been very good, with Dream Cottages, and they have had little welcome packs of tea, coffee, and biscuits, in case you have travelled far. This one didn't even have one teabag, or anything. I was not able to include my granddaughter in my holiday, after all, because of the covid scare, but considering the problems with the cottage, I am relieved she wasn't with me to experience it, on this occasion. I am a fan of Dream Cottages, but I will not return to Pixie Cottage.

Thankyou for your feedback following your stay at Pixie Cottage. We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed with the cottage. We would have been really keen to assist with many of these issues had we been aware. We do ask that you contact us whilst on holiday if there is anything that needs addressing. The issues with the cleaning have been reported to the Housekeeping team for investigation. Unfortunately, with regard to the windows and courtyard, all it takes in a seaside town is a bit of a wind and the fine sand blows and sticks everywhere. This is something we are continually addressing. We do advertise the property as having a compact courtyard, and we show this clearly in the photos. The property is in a conservation area and the owner has kept the original sash windows which are part of the charm of the lovely Pixie Cottage. The property is in a popular part of Weymouth by the harbour and Brewers Quay, this does mean parking is at a premium and we are pleased you found parking just a few minutes’ walk from the property. We are sending guests a COVID information email which details that we have temporarily removed all welcome refreshment packs from our properties due to Government guidelines, along with other measures. Many guests love the charm of Pixie Cottage with her amazing location where you are just a minute or so walk from the harbour and just a couple of minutes’ walk from Brewer’s Quay, they enjoy her charming and cosy bijou rooms and features in keeping with a property of this period. However, please contact us directly if you’d would like to stay with us again, we are sure to find you the perfect property, which may be a more modern property with parking and a garden. We look forward to you visiting Dorset again.
