Only thing that puts us off booking again is the sofas extremely uncomfortable after sitting awhile . Fantastic garden fully stock fenced so very safe for dogs .

The position of the cottage is perfect with the beach just across the road and a short walk into the village and the well stocked little shop. The cottage is always spotless on arrival and equipped with all the essentials (wish I owned it)! It’s also perfect for dogs, very secure garden and great walks around Glenelg.

The views from the cottage and the surrounding area are still stunning of course which is why we come back so often but when the weather is bad these things make a difference to your comfort. We had a very relaxing stay and Jackie, the manager, was very helpful.

The location is stunning. It was lovely to be able to pop across the lane to the river for paddleboarding. The dog enjoyed a paddle too! Beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. We enjoyed a couple of tasty meals in the Glenelg Inn. Would recommend.

This is a lovely little cottage, nice and quiet with scenic views, ideally located for the original Skye ferry. Well worth a visit despite the bugs and the twisty/narrow road over the hills - I would suggest that nervous drivers arrive in daylight if possible

Its location and provision are both excellent. Stepping into the house is like stepping back home . It's a wonderful feeling. The walks, the friendliness of the local people is why we keep returning. The manager is an amazing person and nothing is too much trouble to sort out. We have already booked again for 2024. Very highly recommended.

Only fault we could find is that the sofas become quite uncomfortable if you sit for long ! However it certainly hasn't put us off going back as we've already booked again for Christmas . • "We wanted a very remote get away to relax and switch off and the location delivered."

Cottage was in a stunning location. Remote and isolated. Just how we like it. The views were incredible and the wildlife was abundant, even spotted some porpoise in the waters nearby. If your planning a trip here though be warned the nearest big shop is all most an hour away so take food with you. There is a local shop but it only supplies the basics. Cottage itself; bit of mixed feeling around it. It is very comfortable and has everything you need. Shower is good and beds are very comfortable. It is listed as having Sky Tv, this isn’t the case. It certainly doesn’t have all the channels you would expect from normal Sky Tv it is mostly freeview channels and some extras. If like us you are stuck inside due to bad weather too the sofas aren’t the best for relaxing on. They’re like sitting in airline seats. Kitchen is very dated too and needs an upgrade. Because of its age it doesn’t feel clean. And there’s little issues such as the fridge not opening fully. Which isn’t a big problem just very annoying if you’ve got bottles lying down in side. Also the cottage is advertised as being able to accommodate 6 people. There was two of us and two dogs. I wouldn’t of wanted anyone else in there. Even 2 adults and 4 children would be a tight fit. Overall amazing location and relaxing place to stay. But there are little issues as mentioned above.

  • "My friend and I and our two dogs absolutely loved Roddy's."

It was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the views over Skye were amazing. There was a problem with a leak in the bathroom but the housekeeper came straight away, it would have been nice if it had been fixed properly while we were there but totally understand the situation of trying to get a plumber on such a remote place. This took nothing away from the enjoyable holiday we had. A must is the Glenelg Arms, fabulous food, people and ambiance.

  • "Overall a good stay clean and comfortable and nice garden and excellent views."

Only one negative that is the fire alarm in the kitchen is very sensitive on several occasions the alarm went off when we put a piece of bread in toaster and waited for it to be done in the end we had to eject the piece of bread before the machine itself to avoid problem. However generally would recommend it to people who wanted to stay in this very scenic area

  • "The location of Roddys Cottage was incredible."

We were a party of two so had plenty of room. I would imagine that it would be OK for 4 people but any more would be cramped. Lots of off road parking. Very comfortable beds. Lashings of hot water.

  • "The house was really clean and cosy."

The towels were soft and lovely. However the whole house is a little tired and dated. The kitchen is basic by functional but no dishwasher. There is no shaver socket on the bathroom for electric toothbrush charge or shaver. The bed is only a double although the room would take a king. The dining area is tight and needs more space to use the chairs. However the otters were a delight and the house was warm and the views wonderful. We enjoyed our stay.

Unfortunately, the mattress in the main bedroom is not comfortable, however, the cottage is equipped with all you need. The open fireplace is a welcome feature on cold days/evenings and the enclosed garden is great to let our dogs roam freely. Roddy’s Cottage is a gem of a find & we highly recommend this cottage for your stay in Glenelg.

A separate small freezer and bigger fridge were useful as the shops are quite a long way off. Also the new bathroom shower and suite were great. As last year, it was really clean and comfy. The cottage itself is quite compact but for a family of four or just a couple it is more than enough. The setting is just so peaceful and I even saw an otter twice outside on the river bank. Herons and geese and so much wildlife to see and scenery is just beautiful. Great pub within walking distance too.

  • "The cottage is lovely and in a lovely location but it does NOT have 3 separate bedrooms as in your listing - the only access to Bedroom 2 is through the main Bedroom and the door to the 2nd bedroom actually hits the bed in the main bedroom."

This may be ok for a family with young children but only suitable for 4 adults if they are either all willing to effectively share a bedroom or 2 are happy to sleep in bunk beds in the small 3rd bedroom and the group has not already planned to make use of the 3rd listed bedroom. We would not have booked this cottage for our group if this had been made clear - to us 3 bedrooms means 3 separate bedrooms. We will not use or recommend Sykes Cottages as it appears your listings cannot be believed.

  • "No mention that you had to go through the double bedroom to the twin room, I went with a friend and ended up sleeping in a bunk bed as we did not want to have to go through each other's room!"

Fabulous location but very small living room -you would really be squashed if there were four adults and two children. We were ok as there were only the two of us and we had beautiful weather so we're outside all day. Place was spotless and there were plenty of cleaning products. You do need to take your food with you as village shop has a limited range and it's a long way to Kyle of Lochalsh to the Co-op, but we knew that before we went and one of the bungalows charms is it's off the tourist trail so much more peaceful.

  • "Really enjoyed this holiday, the cottage was small but very clean."

We booked this as 5 adults but on we found out off another site after booking it should have only accommodated 4 adults and 2 children, Everything was crammed in which was not comfortable for 5 of us, however we managed fine. The description failed to mention that in order to access the two bedroom you have to go through the main bedroom, which may have put us off booking this cottage. Anyway we all had a fantastic time and the view from the cottage was beautiful. I tried to contact the owner for more information prior to our stay, there was no answer so I left a message , unfortunately they failed to call back.

  • "It was a great cottage but the double bed was so springy and uncomfortable that my partner and I had to sleep apart for our entire stay."

Would also recommend some black out curtains for the bedroom windows. Difficult to sit at dining table, we are slight people and would recommend removal of side board; especially if a family of 6 is staying or they will have no hope of sitting down together. Would have been so helpful to have had information on canoeing and fishing. We did not have our own kit and thought it would be easy to obtain up there. It wasn’t and we we very disappointed as we would have taken our own. We also left several messages for both contact numbers given and called each about 5 times prior to arrival to gain further information but could not get hold of anyone and we’re not called back. The agency also emailed and did not receive a reply a reply which was not helpful. The nearest food re-supply is a 40 min drive away at Kyle of Lockalsh. There is only a small under counter fridge which does not hold much for a family. Small freezer box which can hold several portions of meat and fish. Fish van calls Wed & Thur at village shop but no specific times which makes it tricky. Fresh fish at Kyle of Lockalsh. All this info needs to be given as Glenelg is so remote.

About the location

GLENELG

Shiel Bridge 9 miles; Skye 46.2 miles; Uig 68.9 miles; Broadford 29.2 miles.

Just ten miles from the main route to the Isle of Skye, the small coastal village of Glenelg lies on the shores of the Sound of Sleat, surrounded by scenery deemed magnificent even by West Highland standards. The glen has preserved its unspoilt beauty and sense of isolation, yet remains within easy reach of the more well-known centres of attraction in the area. Overlooking the Isle of Skye, it is situated on the route once used by drovers from Skye to get their cattle to the mainland, crossing over the narrow Kyle Rhea straits. A couple of miles from the village on the Arnisdale road you will find Sandaig bay, named "Camusfearna" by Gavin Maxwell in his novel Ring of Bright Water, and where there is a cairn for his beloved otter Edal. Glenelg also has the best preserved Pictish Brochs on mainland Scotland. The ruins of Bernera Barracks, an 18th Century garrison for English government troops, still stand next to the village.

Note: Max 4 adults and 2 children under 12.
