  • "Roslyn is clearly a family home and very much reminiscent of bygone times."

We stayed as a multigenerational family of 4 adults and 1 toddler, and although the max quoted is 8, I can't see it myself as the downstairs rooms are quite small. Furniture is arranged not as a separate sitting room and dining room, but as two sitting/dining rooms (4 and 4). Description is also not accurate as there is no bath, just a walk in shower, and one of the double bedrooms is downstairs off the kitchen with only one double and the family room upstairs. A tyre swing and a small stream running through the bottom of the large sloping garden are nice features. Driveway is narrow with a tight entrance, and you are recommended to reverse in as turning would be very difficult with more than one car. Nowhere to hang wet coats. On the positive side, the family bedroom is lovely, with a large double and bunk beds. Plenty of toys, books and games are thoughtfully provided and kept our pre-schooler amused all week. Masses of hanging space for clothes in the upstairs double. All the beds were really comfy, with crisp clean bedding and HUGE duvets! The kitchen is well supplied with a large fridge/freezer, freestanding cooker and a separate built-in oven. We didn't try the dishwasher or washing machine. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, glass and cookware. (Recommended not to leave food out at any time as there were a few ants). Large Aldi 10mins away in Romsey, and cottage is really close to Peppa Pig World! Owner very responsive.

ROMSEY

Southampton 7 miles; Winchester 11 miles.

The vibrant Hampshire market town of Romsey can be found on the banks of the picturesque River Test, coveted by fly fisherman as one of the country’s finest chalk fishing streams. The 44-mile long-distant walk of The Test Way winds past Romsey and many other pretty villages, historic churches and country houses, following the course of the river, down to Eling on Southampton Water. The centre of Romsey offers visitors a fine selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose from, and a colourful three-day market provides the perfect place to peruse local produce. A visit to Romsey’s Noman abbey or to the home of the Mountbatten Family at Broadlands is a must. Nearby, the National Trust’s Mottisfont Abbey sits in attractive riverside gardens and is well worth a day out. Alternatively, take the short drive to the New Forest National Park, swathed in pretty heathland and grazed by wild ponies, cattle and deer. Enjoy a spot of retail therapy at Southampton’s West Quay Centre or marvel at the stunning cathedrals at Salisbury or Winchester, each easily accessible. This charming Hampshire town is situated in a most beautiful part of the south of England, offering plenty of interesting things to see and do, so you are sure to want to return and sample some more!
