"The listing mentions a summer house in the garden."
There is no summer house. The door at the top of the garden is the door to the garage.
The cottage was not bad, but the bathroom is cramped. The furniture in the lounge is too large for the room, and it is easy to bang your shins on the coffee table when sitting down on the sofas.
The bed was dreadfully uncomfortable and needs either a new mattress or replacing altogether. Glad we only stayed for three nights. Apart from that, it was fine.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations.
I would like to clarify that the listing reference to a “summer house” appears to have been some confusion along the way with updated publication of the listing, as this is in fact a garage. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, and I will ensure the description is updated promptly to avoid any future confusion.
Regarding the layout and furnishings, the cottage is compact and reflects the proportions typical of properties of its kind. That said, I will review the positioning of the lounge furniture to see if improvements can be made to enhance comfort and ease of movement.
I am particularly concerned to hear your comments about the bed. The mattress is relatively new and includes a topper, but I take comfort very seriously. I will assess this carefully, and if it is found not to meet an appropriate standard, it will be replaced without delay.
For future guests, I always encourage any concerns to be raised during the stay so they can be addressed as quickly as possible.
Thank you again for your feedback.

"We had a relaxing week long stay at Foresters Rest in the lovely village of Selborne near Alton."
The property was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed and also very clean.
Information was provided to assist by both Sykes and the owner together with several treats which were a nice and unexpected touch.
One of the previous reviews mentioned the size and access of the garage, but we had no issues with an Audi A3 though it did only just fit lengthways. It was also a useful storage area for bikes that we took.
The cottage is right opposite the pub with additional parking space if required and there are some lovely walks around the area and village.
We used the stay as a base between the Bournemouth Half Marathon and Great South Run and found plenty to do and visit within the area.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. I’m really pleased to hear that you had a relaxing stay and found the cottage comfortable, clean, and well equipped for your week.
It’s great to know the information provided was helpful and that the small treats were appreciated—I'm glad they added to your experience. Thank you as well for your comments regarding the garage; I’m sure future guests will find that insight useful, particularly those travelling with similar vehicles or bringing bikes.
The location really is ideal for exploring the surrounding area, and it sounds like you made the most of your time between events, with plenty to see and do.
It was a pleasure hosting you, and you would be very welcome back anytime.

It is easy to access, and parking is just across the street, behind the pub. The garden is so charming and peaceful. The kitchen is very well-appointed, but I never could figure out how to turn on the stovetop. The washer/dryer was very easy to use and very helpful. I loved the front room, which was cozy and comfortable. The bedroom is nice and large, and the bathroom is great. I would love to stay here again. It was perfect for me and I felt very safe. Thank you!

"The cosy, tastefully decorated cottage (with its nice garden!"
) was just lovely and the perfect place to stay in the beautiful village of Selborne. The village pub, coveniently situated just opposite the cottage, was cosy and served good pub grub and real ale. We would have given a five-star rating, BUT: The road, despite being a B-road, seems to be a major through road and is constantly frequented between early morning and late evening (many cars ignoring the speed limit of 20 mph). We know that this is not the owner's fault, but we think that this should be mentioned in the listing.
Thank you for your thoughtful review. I’m so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cottage, its garden, and the village itself, as well as the convenience of the pub opposite.
I also appreciate you taking the time to share your comments regarding the road. While this is outside of my control, I understand that it may impact some guests’ experience. I raise this with Sykes listing team, to make future guests aware. I will also provide ear plugs in the cottage to help support a more restful night’s sleep.
Thank you again for your helpful feedback, and I’m glad you otherwise had a lovely stay.

"Had a very pleasant stay."
We had a power outage one evening which the owner turned out at 23.00 hrs and sorted it out in good grace. Which could have happened to any one at any time. So a big thank you to Alexandria. This was our 3rd visit to No 1 Foresters Rest and depending on circumstances we have not ruled out visit No 4. It`s clean cosy comfortable and no distance from any of the attractions Which we can wholly reccomend the Weald Down Museum plus Selborne is a very pleasant Village with lots of nice walks Not forgetting Gilbert Whites house and gardens
Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing to return for a third visit—it really means a lot.
I’m delighted to hear that you had another pleasant stay and continue to find the cottage clean, cosy, and comfortable, as well as well located for exploring the area. Selborne is indeed a special village, and I’m glad you’ve been able to enjoy its walks and local attractions.

I truly appreciate your kind recommendation, and it would be a pleasure to welcome you back again for a fourth visit whenever the opportunity arises.

"A beautiful cottage in a scenic location."
We enjoyed a comfortable three-night stay.
We soon felt at home, and particularly liked the colourful garden, where we could enjoy some early summer sun at the start and end of the day.
Although the road is right outside at the front, it doesn’t get busy, and we hardly noticed any passing traffic at all.
If you find parking in the garage at the back a bit tight, you can do as we did and park for free in the lower car park across the road behind the Selborne Arms.
For local attractions, Gilbert White’s House and Garden are a five-minute walk away, and the walk up to Selborne Common starts directly opposite the cottage.
Jayne Austen’s House, Chawton House and the town of Alton are just a short drive away, too.
