  • "Our fourth stay, the first being twenty years ago."

A comfortable and quiet place to stay with a cosy, well - loved family feel to it. Within a few minutes walk, the village has a garage with a small shop plus a station on the rural line from Shrewsbury to Swansea. A few days at fiddlers green is a welcome escape to a slower, more traditional way of country life.

We have enjoyed a stay here with a family of five, one kid of 4 years and two teenagers, immensely. The kids enjoyed playing in the huge, beautiful garden. There are many beautiful sights in the vicinity, from medieval Ludlow to Georgian Berrington Hall and the Judges Lodgings in Presteigne. Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales is in driving distance.

  • "Lovely stay."

Almost everything was probably undersold by the photos, especially the views from most windows but also in the general area. The garden felt larger and more landscaped than I had thought. Even in early November I was able to sit out in the late morning sun on a couple of days. (I would have drowned on the other days!!) Very well equipped - if you needed something, it was usually there! I was surprised how close to the main road it was but most of the time you wouldn't even know. Although deliberately a little 'dated ' inside, every 'necessary' mod-con is well catered for. Very good value.

  • "We've stayed here 6 times, which gives you the idea of how much we enjoy the property and its location."

A very well equipped house throughout, with everything we need, in a lovely, peaceful, spacious garden. Plenty of room for a family to spread out. Great wifi, TV with iplayer, clavichord for our use, super walks around the village, and the hills all around. Wouldn't suit everyone as there's no dishwasher or luxury bedlinen, but it suits anyone who enjoys a home from the past. We love it! A car is a must. Take non-allergenic pillows if you need them.

Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed another holiday at Fiddler’s Green, that’s always wonderful to hear. We currently provide both non allergenic and feather filled pillows; our apologies again that this wasn’t suitable on this occasion. We can certainly replace any feather filled ones in advance of your stay in the future, if this is preferred. Property Owner

  • "A very relaxing holiday at Fiddlers Green in lovely surroundings."

There are a couple of things I would like to mention I understand the person who used to clean the property has now given up. She always did an excellent job. However the people who do it now are nowhere near as good. There were cobwebs in the sitting room and a dirty sink in the kitchen. Also feel the sofa's and chairs could do with a clean.

Thank you for letting us know you had a relaxing holiday despite the short comings you found on this occasion, for which we apologise. Steps are being taken to correct the situation. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely and restful stay."

The house was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped, with a charming garden. The weather was mostly fine, so we were well able to appreciate the beautiful countryside (and winding lanes) of Shropshire, and even strayed into the neighbouring county, to Hereford. We discovered Ludlow Castle and the twisty coppiced oaks of Lurkenhope Wood. We enjoyed plenty of good food from Ludlow Farm Shop, Tuffins Independent Supermarket in Craven Arms, and rather more cups of tea than I can list here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would love to go back again. It is surrounded by excellent walking country and well located for visiting all of Shropshire, Herefordshire and mid-Wales. It has a lovely large garden for relaxing in and is in reach of two pubs in the village for eating out. The cottage was scrupulously clean and the owner was very helpful. We've been here several summers now, and it's a perfect place for us because we like peace and quiet, plenty of space both indoors and outdoors, and a lovely local village to walk around. The surrounding area is simply beautiful. Provided that you have a car, there are plenty of interesting villages and towns to enjoy, none of which are too far to reach. Having two toilets is a plus, as is having the separate dining room and the clavichord to enjoy. The wifi works perfectly throughout the 24 hour period too. The interior is authentically vintage, which we like, and the lounge very comfortable. We recommend the local Baron Restaurant for high quality, reasonably priced food.

The house was spotlessly clean, and we felt completely reassured that everything would be fine. The only slight difference was that we could access the house from 5pm rather than 2pm, but it didn't bother us at all. There needs to be a longer cleaning window between guests. This cottage is superbly situated for peace and quiet, yet in a lovely village which is so interesting to walk around. There's a fantastic gastro-inn within walking distance too, The Baron, which we went to three times in a fortnight! The food and service there is superb, but remember to book. The cottage has a spacious, restful garden with a perfect place to sit on the top terrace, and comfy garden chairs. We take our own pillows, as quite a lot of the bedding is filled with down, but there's one double quilt which is anti-allergenic. We particularly enjoyed having use of the piano too, but took our own board games this year. The owner is easy to communicate with, and very helpful. A super place to stay.

  • "Terrible smell of industrial disinfectant when we arrived."

Did not seem to abate and we cut holiday short and came home half way through the week. Altogether spoilt our holiday. Also phone taken out and being elderly we may have needed this. Did not enjoy it at all

Unfortunately, on the day of your arrival it had been necessary to use a strong oven cleaner and a strong disinfectant to guard against Covid-19. We are sorry if this spoilt your holiday, however, an air freshener was left in the property for you to use. Regarding the landline, this has been taken out of the property as it had rarely been used last year as most people would prefer to use their mobile phone, it would also mean another item to disinfect in the property. We thank you for your feedback and we sorry that you felt like you needed to leave early. Property Owner

This bungalow is a delight to return to each day, so comfortable and well-equipped. The car was left parked for the whole time, with so many walks from the door with intriguing paths to follow. I was so glad I spoke to the owner beforehand, informing me there was an electric piano, as we were able to bring music and really enjoyed playing it. That was the icing on the cake!

It has everything you could want in a home from home. Wonderful garden (although due to the wet weather we were not really able to appreciate it fully) Bucknell itself is a beautiful, friendly village, a walk around the river is recommended, as is a visit to the Sitwell Arms, where a friendly welcome is assured by Steve the landlord and the locals, can definitely recommend the fish, chips and pint night! A visit to Rita's Tea Rooms at Eardisland, a very pretty black and white buildings village, is also a must. The Lion at Leintwardine although a little pricey is well worth a visit in its picturesque setting on the river and Ludlow is amazing, visit the Green Cafe by Dinham bridge and go for a walk along the river Teme, watch out for the Heron and kingfisher, lots of lovely little independent shops inc a lovely handmade chocolate shop called the Chocolate Box tucked away down a little alley called Attorneys Walk...heaven! The deli, with freshly ground coffee and loose teas! And the castle rounded off a very nice day. Wigmore castle is also a wonderful ruin to visit. As you drive through Brampton Bryan do stop to look at the amazing yew hedges. Although the weather was against us we had an amazing holiday and cannot recommend Fiddlers Green, Bucknell and Sykes Cottages enough.

  • "Fiddler's Green is such a lovely cottage, which has a certain 'period-charm' that reminds me of visiting my grand parents when I was much younger."

There is plenty of space and it was sufficiently equipped although it would have been more beneficial to us if it had a tumble drier, but that didn't stop us drying our wet cycling gear on a daily basis. It was the perfect base for cycling and exploring the Shropshire/Herefordshire/Powys countryside as well as enjoying some peace and tranquillity. There are also some lovely walks in the area and plenty of information in the cottage of what to do and where to go with maps of local walks of varying distances. It has a beautiful, sheltered garden that is perfect for sitting out and enjoying the serene surroundings in privacy from the neighbouring properties. The locals were friendly and welcoming wherever we went especially in the local pub. There is a local shop and a large Co-op in the next village just a 5-mile drive away or Tesco Superstore in Ludlow, which is about a 30-minute drive. I would highly recommend a stay at Fiddler's Green!

The property

A pretty, traditionally-styled cottage, slightly elevated above the popular village of Bucknell, Shropshire.

The cottage is a perfect base for friends and family looking to make the most of the breathtaking countryside of the Shropshire Hills which is peppered with picture-postcard villages.

This lovely cottage has comfortable ground floor accommodation with three cosy bedrooms and a family bathroom with shower over.

There is a light and airy kitchen leading off a traditional dining room.

There is also a separate sitting room, ideal for relaxing after a long day exploring the fantastic undulating countryside and surrounding Welsh Marches, with an open fire and access out onto the spacious gardens.

Outside, you can sit in the traditional cottage garden, with raised terraced sitting area, a large lawn provides the perfect venue to run off any last energies you may have with a ball game, and it slopes into a more natural orchard area, an idyllic setting to enjoy the last few rays of sun with a glass of something cool.

The property is in the valley of the meandering River Teme and is adjacent to the Shropshire Hills, a truly magnificent landscape with rolling hills, wooded river valleys and some quaint and alluring little villages and towns such as Clun, Bishop's Castle, Church Stretton and Much Wenlock.

Nearby is Knighton, a pretty market town sitting on the Offa's Dyke, a perfect base to start your exploration of the fabulous walks and cycle routes.

Alternatively, why not go and taste some of the delights of local producers in the medieval market town of Ludlow, considered to be one of the most attractive towns in England?

The area offers numerous outdoor activities including fishing, cycle trails and mountain bike routes, horse riding or golf, with multiple walks stretching away from the village, so you really can walk from the door.

Why not try a higher octane activity with the silent thrill of gliding or perhaps a day out in a nearby rally school?

If you like visiting historic properties, Stokesay Castle, a fine example of a medieval fortified manor house, owned by English Heritage, is a twenty minute drive.

Slightly further afield, take a trip to one of two National Trust properties both within a half hour drive.

Berrington Hall is a striking neo-classical manor house, with beautiful landscaped gardens and parkland or Croft Castle with its regal veteran trees in its beautiful park and woodland.

A perfect base in a popular village, a short walk from the local village pubs, on the edge of the Shropshire Hills in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
