The property

Schoolhouse is a characterful cottage set within the grounds of a former school in the village of Lochaline, within the Highland region of Scotland.

Offering sea views, two toasty woodburning stoves, a garden and allows dogs, it is a lovely base for families and friends seeking a scenic escape.

You arrive by parking the car nearby, stepping out into a setting shaped by birdsong and a sense of calm that carries across the grounds.

The cottage sits within a spacious garden, where a broad sweep of lawn opens out around the building, creating an immediate feeling of space and separation from everyday routines.

It is a place where the air feels fresh and the sounds of nature gently frame your stay.

Entering the property, the ground floor reveals a thoughtful layout designed for easy living.

One of the bedrooms is located here, a single room defined by a rustic stone wall and a woodburning stove that invites quiet moments spent reading or warming your hands after time outdoors.

Nearby, the ground-floor bathroom offers a bath with shower over, making it an ideal space for easing tired legs at the end of the day.

From the hallway, tartan-carpeted stairs lead you up to the first floor, where the character of the cottage continues to unfold.

The living and dining room is arranged for shared time, with sofas gathered around a charming stone feature wall that frames the woodburning stove.

A dining table is positioned beside the window, encouraging long meals accompanied by views across the water and rolling hills beyond, as daylight shifts and evening settles in.

The kitchen sits close by, brightened by pretty tiled walls that add colour and personality to the space.

Here, cooking becomes part of the holiday rhythm, whether you are preparing a leisurely breakfast or assembling supper using fresh local produce, with everything close to hand to make self-catering feel effortless.

The remaining bedrooms complete the first floor.

The king-size bedroom is styled with coordinating furnishings and enjoys views that draw the landscape into the room, offering a restful place to wake and unwind.

The double bedroom features a dressing table and armchair, creating a quiet corner for slow mornings or moments of reflection before turning in for the night.

A contemporary shower room sits alongside, providing a sleek and refreshing option for mornings or quick rinses between adventures.

Stepping back outside, the garden provides a natural extension of the living space, with its open lawn offering room to wander, pause with a coffee, or simply listen to the sounds of the day.

A village shop is within easy reach for essentials, while a welcoming pub and the coastline are close enough to encourage unplanned walks and evenings shaped by local flavour.

From Lochaline, rewarding days out unfold in every direction.

A ferry journey brings you to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, where brightly painted buildings line the harbour, boats drift across the water throughout the day, and independent shops invite gentle browsing.

Cafés spill out towards the waterfront, and the harbour remains a lively focal point as the light changes.

Further inland, Fort William sits beneath dramatic Highland scenery, where lochside walks trace the water’s edge, outdoor cafés offer places to pause, and the surrounding mountains create a striking backdrop that changes with the weather.

The town carries a steady energy, blending outdoor adventure with relaxed places to eat and explore.

For a more remote experience, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula offers sweeping coastal roads, open landscapes, and quiet beaches where the land meets the sea.

The area is shaped by wide horizons, rocky shores, and a sense of scale that encourages unhurried exploration, whether by car or on foot.

Returning each day to Schoolhouse in Lochaline, you are welcomed back by warmth, character, and a setting that makes space for shared moments, simple pleasures, and the enduring appeal of the Highland coast.
