  • "Very nice cottage, lovely location, was clean and tidy."

The owners were very approachable, We had no issues so did not need to contact them other than a general chat. If I had to say anything negative about our stay, I would have preferred that the settee was not a Chesterfield, they are very uncomfortable, when booking the cottage a picture of a normal high backed settee was shown. Unfortunately my husband suffers from back issues so have to sit on the dining room chair during our stay. This is not the fault of the owners but one to note if you are a back sufferer.

Thank you for your comments, it's a shame you didn't air them when you were staying with us, we would have swapped the chair for the high backed winged queen Anne chair we have, we do have to change furnishings occasionally as they become worn out or scratched by over enthusiastic dogs. • "Sheepwash Barn is a lovely and comfortable place to stay, we stayed here with our three Chihuahua's."

The owners are very friendly and have three little Westies who made themselves known to our three Chihuahua's. Local facilities are a short walk away via a convienent path which runs from the left from the front of the cottage the path has dog bins at either ends so it is an ideal place for the early morning and late evening strolls! Local shops are just up the hill at the end of the path, a Co Op, a fish chip shop and the Vine public house, Sunday lunch at the Vine is very good, the pub is also dog friendly. This is the first time we have stayed at this side of the Island and we were not disappointed. Allow some extra time if you are going to the Central or South side of the Island as a few road closures around Ventnor prevent a straight route via Military Road.

    Thank you Property Owner

Very dog friendly even blankets to cover the lovely Chesterfied sofa so the dogs could go on it provided. It was well equipped. A couple of points though..the bathroom looked out over owners garden and is very open just a thin net curtain. Blinds definitely needed . Also floor of shower is horrid. Needs relaying or regrouting. Lastly a small gate would be good to shut off the alley to bins by side of owners gardrn. Any dogs you are with can be prevented from going down there when owners dogs are in the garden and a scrap through the fence slats ensuing! We ended up blocking it off with the garden furniture and cool boxes etc to enjoy some peace!

On the plus side it is in a lovely location, relatively clean and plenty of hot water but poorly equipped and poorly maintained

I never respond to feedback as we quite often get 100/100, our all time average is 97/100, and the previous people in the barn gave us 100/100, so I was slightly upset about your feedback, we endeavour to try and make everyone's holiday good, for some reason we failed with yourselves you marked us down for comfort, not sure why, perhaps it was the leather chesterfield or the memory foam mattress on the bed with the 13.5 tog quilt, other people have said it's better equipped than there home, so not sure why you marked us down, perhaps if you had tried to contact us we could have resolved any issues. Very good location, well presented, well equipped, a comfortable bed, a dog secure front garden and a property that is very clearly very well looked after. You can walk to Totland Bay or Colwell Bay, both of which have very good restaurants. Freshwater (a very quick walk) has several restaurants and good breakfast places plus a Sainsbury's and Coop. Top tip: you can walk to the top of a hill just off the footpath to Totland Bay and watch the fireworks from Alum Bay on Thursday evenings - though not in 2020 as Covid has canned that for this year. Two loos were favourable and the shower was just awesome .Beds most comfortable and quite and the living room with a easy TV to work straight on to the channel was what we needed for the Wimbledon and world cup finals with a sporty hubby' no codes to fiddle with like other cottages we have been too I just enjoyed sunbathing on the patio watching the world go bye .It reminded me of holidays in 50's and 60's Forgot the kitchen this was well equipped with all mod cons . Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
