  • "Great for a weekend break for a couple and a dog that enjoy the seaside, walking and table tennis."

  • "This cottage is very very small, the photos are clever."

It was fine for me on my own with my dog but it would even feel cramped for a couple. It is a good base for a walking holiday and I was lucky as with no stock grabbing Aura could have a doggy runaround on the fields. It is very secure and felt very safe for a widow on her own. It is quite difficult to find, use the farm name not the postcode. I didn't have to cook there but the kitchen is a little tired and hopefully a new bathroom will be on the owners list. I would stay again for short stay and its very handy for Ventnor Gardens which is a good day walking space. The bedroom was very clean and the bed comfy and the veranda made the cottage being light and airy.

  • "The positive is that Fisherman's Cottage is in a great location but there are many negatives."

The bed is very uncomfortable with springs sticking out of the mattress and very gutless pillows without protectors. The modem is in the bedroom with a bright light all night unless you turn it off. The sofa is the most uncomfortable thing going. The place was grubby, very hot when sunny cold when not. The bathroom is so small you can't swing a cat in it I could actually sit on the toilet and brush my teeth over the sink and the shower was very moldy and the water just about warm enough to shower and wash up. The washing machine stunk and was filthy outside and the kitchen so small, there is only about 1 foot square of usable worktop, not very well equipped and only a small bistro table to eat at that is in the way of the fridge. The place is so small overall and information very scarce, nothing about any of the appliances, recycling, food recycling or rubbish. We managed to stay here by buying a duvet to put over the mattress and buying thick cushions to use for our backs on the sofa. We both suffered with backache and hip pain all week and blame this on the sofa and bed. The first night I spent sleeping on the bedroom floor then on the bed on top of the duvet upside down just to find a suitable spot. We ate out every lunchtime and just about managed to make a snack supper in the kitchen. We would not recommend this property to anyone and will not be back. We did see the owner turn up when we were packing to leave I guess just to make sure that we were leaving as he gave us a good stare, no smile and no communication whatsoever at any stage of our holiday.

  • "Firstly we would like to applaud the owners for the amount of outdoor entertainment facilities available."

Although we only made use of the table tennis (four tables in two separate barns), if the weather had been better we would have made full use of the facilities. The position of the three cottages is fantastic being just a stone's throw from the coastal path which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring with botanical gardens and lovely coves within easy reach. The cottage itself, is very small. The kitchen has everything you need but has very limited preparation worktop space approx 15" x 15". Likewise, the shower room is tiny. Despite being in our 70's and 80's we are slim and quite fit. However we imagine that "larger" or infirmed guests would really struggle in this tight space. Likewise, we think it would offer difficulties for anyone with a baby. Overall the cottage was clean (apart from some mould on shower tray and grease on oven top) and had everything we needed for a short stay. HOWEVER, as mentioned in a previous review, the double bed mattress was very uncomfortable. Neither my wife or I had a good night in the 5 days. The mattress is hard with the springs noticeable when laying. Also, we did not enjoy sitting on the small sofa - it's ok for a brief sit down but with the inclement weather we did have a couple of uncomfortable evenings watching TV. Such a shame - if it hadn't been for the bed and sofa it would have been a truly perfect stay and warranted five stars.

  • "The shower was not very clean with black mild around the base."

Bath room very small just about three feet wide and six foot long. Settee very uncomfortable and old. Bed not very comfortable and we found it inconvenient having the toilet down stairs. But the position was lovely and only a field away from the sea.

Bank End Farm Cottages

Bank End Farm Cottages are three outstanding cottages set within an attractive open courtyard, with spectacular coastal views and direct access onto the Isle of Wight Coastal Path. These striking holiday cottages are just a short walk away from the small coves and secluded beaches of the south coast of the Isle of Wight, and are situated within 30 acres of farmland, having been lovingly converted from ancient Island Stone farm buildings, whilst retaining many of their original features. With the clever use of modern glazing, light now spills into each cottage, creating a warm and welcoming feel, as well as allowing in those stunning views of the English Channel. All three cottages have been furnished to a high standard, complementing the exposed beams with quality oak and pine furnishings. They each have their own private patio area with a table, chairs, and a barbecue, all perfectly positioned to allow you to fully appreciate the beautiful views of the surrounding farmland and the English Channel. A shared games room houses table tennis tables and badminton nets, and there is useful storage for bikes available, as well as designated off-road parking spaces close by, along with additional undercover parking if required. The Ventnor Botanic Garden is only a short walk away, full of worldwide temperate and subtropical trees and shrubs. The area’s unusual climate is more like the Mediterranean, therefore enabling a wide variety of plants to grow and thrive here. The Garden also holds many events and exhibitions throughout the year and has a highly acclaimed café restaurant. A 10-minute walk along the Isle of Wight Coastal Path will bring you to the island’s hidden treasure, Steephill Cove, with its sand and shingle beach and fisherman’s cottages, who today still launch small boats hoping to catch crabs and lobsters for the locals. Some of these cottages have even been converted into wonderful café restaurants, where you can sample their catch directly from the sea. Bank End Farm Cottages are perfect for anything, from romantic retreats to a big, family seaside holiday.
