Kings Hill 2.9 miles, Tonbridge 7.3 miles.
The Piggery is a beautifully finished cottage in the grounds of one of Kent’s most historic private homes, a Grade I listed ancient monument built in 1396 for the knights returning from the crusades.
As its name suggests, the Piggery was converted from 19th-century farm buildings and is surrounded by formal gardens designed by Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal winner, Roger Platt.
The location on the edge of the charming hamlet of West Peckham (where the last TV Darling Buds of May ‘The Larkins’ TV series was filmed), set in the heart of the Weald of Kent, provides a tranquil and beautiful setting.
Although quiet West Peckham has a thriving community-owned pub, the Swan on the Green, which is a short walk from the Piggery and the village is perfectly placed for exploring the wonderful countryside and local towns – or even taking the train from Tonbridge straight into central London.
Nearby attractions include the wineries of Mereworth and Yotes Court, whose vines are just across the road from the property.
The Greensand Way passes directly behind Dukes Place, with ramblers using the ancient route as it heads up onto the North Downs, or south into the Weald.
In the vicinity are Knole House, Penshurst Place, Ightham Mote, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle and the amazing gardens at Sissinghurst, the work of Vita Sackville-West.
The Piggery has access to the Dukes Place tennis court, which is just metres away, and can be used in daylight hours, and there are numerous local golf courses and miles of country lanes to tempt cyclists.
With ample car parking accessed through electric gates, the property is surrounded by its large and secure hedges with further secure storage of bikes if needed.
The path to the front door is accessed down a short path lined with espalier apple trees and lavender, with a front hall giving access to the two bedrooms, one with a double sleigh-bed and the other with two bunk-beds.
The kitchen and living area have all the necessary amenities, including excellent WiFi, which allows both content streaming and conferencing if required, along with a woodburning stove and a small terrace.
The Piggery provides comfortable contemporary convenience in a truly historic location for you to relax, explore or make it your base for discovering Kent and Sussex or maybe taking a trip into London.
