The property

Printers Cottage is positioned within a hidden courtyard and at the centre of the popular market town of Cockermouth, in a desirable position for exploring both the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottage was previously part of a Victorian print works and then a printing museum until it closed over 10 years ago.

The childhood home of William Wordsworth looks into the courtyard with its streetlight and traditional architecture. Enter inside this homely abode to find all you could need for a wonderful family holiday; take a seat around the table of the kitchen/diner or the adjoining sofas with a warming cup of tea and map out a fun-filled itinerary for your stay.

The chef of the group can make the most of the good range of appliances at hand for a home-made feast including an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even both a washing machine and dishwasher for those longer stays. Move upstairs to one of 2 bedrooms each with its own en- suite shower room, TV, original Georgian fireplaces (not operational) and views over to Wordsworth House and its gardens; one has a double bed and the other has a super king sized bed which can be made into twin beds on request with its handy zip/link functions.

Cockermouth makes a beautiful base all-year-round, best known as being the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian, of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, there's plenty of historic attractions here to explore including the National Trust owned Georgian family home of Wordsworth himself with wonderful exhibition rooms and riverside gardens, it's well-worth exploring.

Cockermouth also offers its visitors a good selection of independent shops, food stores and delicious eateries including pubs, tearooms, and restaurants, with its very own golf club too for a truly tranquil day.

Be sure to explore the natural beauty of the area, with the mountain peak of Watch Hill being close by for a leisurely stroll, while the northern lakes of Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water all lie within easy reach too for a more challenging ramble.

Visit the coastal town of Workington to find fantastic shopping experiences, eateries aplenty and a range of family-friendly attractions such as an escape room, leisure centres, the Helena Thompson Museum and more, as well as the Sea-to-Sea cycle route being available from the town too for a scenic cycle.

Venture to the impressive Georgian town of Whitehaven for a charming atmosphere perfect for a romantic day trip or spend a historic day in Keswick with its scatter of museums and galleries including the Keswick Museum, Derwent Pencil Museum and more.

Choose Printers Cottage for your next adventure-packed escape to this beautiful area of Cumbria.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
