  • "I would rather be honest."

.. Property was in a great place for us, ideal bolt hole however, the beds! What can I say...I can still feel every spring in the mattress. My Daughter had the same problem in a single bed in the second room and she's young. Cheap beds, and mattress protectors on beds are flat and useless. Duvet needs to be heavier, higher tog as its not heavy enough at night. Property was not what I would class as clean when I got there. Front of washer was disgusting as were handles on cooker. Sockets, skirting and corners were thick with muck. Considering the previous occupants clean, then the cleaner it was filthy. Then we have to clean and leave early for a deep clean. I did more than the cleaner ever has. We left it cleaner than we found it! If the beds were improved, and the cleaner did a decent job I would not hesitate to stay again. It was a shame. I expect the owner pays a substantial amount to have the property cleaned as well. It needs a good clean. Also, the property is quite cold unless you override the heating. It got quite cold when we stayed, probably benefit from some insulation and seing around the external doors.

  • "Our 4th stay at Capella and as always, we had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday."

The cottage is homely and comfortable and the location is ideal - quiet, yet handy for shops, restaurants etc. My only issue is the fact that the weekly price had increased by over 23% compared with 2 years ago, which I feel is excessive and way above the rate of inflation.

  • "The cottage is in a fantastic location within 10 mins walk of Keswick centre and 15 mins to the Lake shore."

It was clean and well equipped. The street was generally very quiet in terms of noise and we managed to get parked close by despite the busy streets around. This might not be the same in the August period though! The twin room is fairly small and the fridge just isn't big enough for food for a family of 4, with only a freezer box compartment in the top. That was fine as we were able to buy food at regular intervals being so close to town. Not ideal if you've brought or ordered a big food shop for arrival! Just to be aware, for anyone with dogs the enclosed yard at the back is only enclosed for dogs the size of a Yorkshire terrier having a 2 foot wall between it and next doors yard - ours jumped straight over and so couldn't go out unsupervised. All in all though a good cottage and great location if you want to be right in the centre of things

Good position, very near town centre. Would definitely book this cottage again. Only problem was with the fridge. It needs defrosting and possibly a notice on the door to advise care in shutting door properly.

Only complaint was that the main double bed was quite small in length and because it had a rail at the bottom my partner didn't sleep well as he's 6ft and kept getting his feet stuck in the rail and eventually spended one night in the single bed in the other bedroom to get some sleep.

  • "This was our first holiday with a pet and found the cottage was not as pet friendly as we'd expected."

We hadn't realised that pets were not allowed upstairs and as our dog is used to sleeping in our bedroom one of us had to sleep downstairs. This presented us with the issue of having to sleep on a 2 seater sofa, until we went out and brought a camp bed. There were multiple stains on the landing and main bedroom carpet, indicating that, in the past, it's likely that pets have been upstairs on a more regular basis. A stair gate would have been a simple addition to the property in this situation. In the whole the property was clean and tidy. We did leave a day early and on the second to last day the front door lock failed, which meant we had to bring all our gear through the back door. The lock smith did arrive just as we were about to set off, so had to leave him to it.

  • "The cottage was comfortable, clean and central for all amenities, although parking can be an issue."

There were no logs provided for the log burner, which although the heating was quick to warm up the cottage, would have been nice. Also, there is no recycling bin provided, we had to take it to a car park in town, however we noticed that the other properties in the area had recycling bins. The small enclosed yard is disappointing, having no plants and little privacy. Despite these minor faults, the cottage is as described and a good base for a stay in Keswick.

  • "The cottage could do with a little maintenance."

All doors make a terrible noise when opening and shutting, and the fridge was over working and freezing the food. There was a problem with the water pressure which made a terrible noise every time you used the taps. This was due to ongoing problems in the Keswick area and there was a large hole in the back yard, which was a real problem with the dog. I understand that this was an unexpected issue, but when I went into the office they were not very helpful. We managed to speak to the workmen who were helpful and removed all the soil and rubble for us. The cottage was in a great position for easy access to Keswick.

  • "Parking was an issue with a large family car and we often had to park around the corner."

This is a busy residential area so roads are parked up both sides, and on corners, leaving a very (only just passable) narrow central lane. We loved the area but next time would book on outskirts of Keswick to have a garden and off road parking.

  • "Location was good, in Keswick."

House was clean, warm, and quite comfortable, though my duvet cover was a bit threadbare. Only disappointment was the house itself ... the house is in no way a cottage - it is a town house on a suburban back street. Very urban, and definately not a cottage.

Our stay was not spoilt but what was a great break could have been even better.

The decor was lovely and furniture in keeping with cottage feel. Great to have a little patio area so door could be left open and somewhere to sit out on warm evening. A shame that there were stains on the carpet upstairs because rest of house was lovely and clean. Stairs also creaked a lot which can disturb little ones when they are sleeping. Will definitely be returning.

  • "I have selected 'Met Expectations' however there were a couple of issues with cleanliness in the cottage."

Firstly on arrival (after a rough drive due to the weather) i took a cup to make a hot drink (first thing i always do) and the cup had a dog hair in it and tea stains on the outside so hadn't been washed properly... i came accross this with plates also and the wine glasses looked like they had been handled by people with greasy fingers. I therefore felt i had to wash all cuttlery/crockery before using, i washed extra that i didnt use because i felt i couldn't put them back dirty... The second thing i noticed was toothpaste around the wall just above the sink in the bathroom. This came off with a damp cloth (which i cleaned) so i can only presume this wasn't cleaned or checked. On a positive note, the bed was lovely and comfy and the property was warm enough and there was a good selection of DVD's which i made use of due to the wet weather. The road is quiet and i parked right outside and the wifi was great throughout. Key collection/drop off was easy - used the keybox on arrival as after 5pm and the lady was apologetic about the above when i dropped the keys off. I left a day earlier than expected but that was due to my little dog not settling so decided to head home. Would i visit this cottage again, probably not however there is nothing i havent mentioned that cannot be easily rectified for future guests.

For convenience this was possibly one of the best placed cottages we have stayed in. The cottage is based on a quieter road and even though it was Christmas it was still very peaceful. Walking distance to all amenities. The cottage itself is very clean and well equipped. My only recommendation would be although the two seaters are comfortable they would have been great as recliners if ever they are replaced. The cottage is ideal for a couple and small family. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Collecting and handing keys back into office was not too much trouble but would be better to have keysafe.

  • "This was our second visit to this cosy, handily situated cottage and once again we very much enjoyed our stay."

I note that a couple of the issues raised in my previous feedback had been attended to but still feel more could be made of the yard, although it does look as though it has had a lick of paint and a tidy-up. It would be nice if a few low-maintenance potted plants could be put in there in the Spring to make it a bit more inviting. All in all, a comfortable and relaxed stay and we will certainly consider again, even though the workings of the central heating system remain a mystery to me, with the heating coming on in the middle of the night! I think this may be due to previous guests altering the programming but perhaps the cleaner could check this at the end of each stay.

Log burner was a great bonus after a cold day walking. Kitchen was fully equipped and beds very comfy, a few negatives, no mat at the back door, was very slippy with wet boots and plumbing wasn’t the best also no logs provided, I’d have paid extra for a log store rather than paying £7 everyday for logs. • "Overall the cottage was lovely, comfortable and clean."

It was a short walk from the town centre located in a peaceful area. The only negative aspect was the shower and bath. Every time we had a shower the water didn't drain away So you would end up standing in a few inches of dirty water. The bath would then be covered in dirt after water had eventually drained. I ended up having to clean the bath if i wanted to have a relaxing soak after a day of walking. This was the only disappointing aspect of our stay.

Thank you for your comments. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and that you appreciated the handy central location we have. Sorry about the minor issue with the shower drain, it usually results from a build up of hair in the filter. We have asked the cleaner to make sure this is addressed in future turnarounds. I hope we will see you back in our cottage in future. Regards, Kath Crompton Property Owner

  • "The property was perfectly satisfactory in most respects and we enjoyed our stay."

It is comfortable and well-situated but there are a few aspects that need addressing. The back yard is described as somewhere you could enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif but in reality, you would not wish to spend time in there in its present state. It is shabby, with litter in one corner, leaves in the grid and green mould on the flaking walls. It could be made quite presentable with a little effort. In addition, at least 2 drawers in the wardrobe in the 2nd bedroom are coming apart. Finally, the central heating comes on and off at seemingly random times. What is quite annoying is that these 3 points were raised by a previous reviewer just prior to our visit but had clearly been ignored.

We are disappointed to find the cottage has not lived up to the high standards we have set. As you have said in your review, the issues you raise are the same as those mentioned by the previous guest. A turnaround gives us only a few hours and unfortunately this is sometimes insufficient to time to address all problems. Once we were made aware of the issues we made arrangements to have them addressed as soon as was practical. Regards, Kath Crompton Property Owner

  • "The yard area was shabby and neglected ."

the wardrobe drawers were broken and would not open . the letter box was not fitted correct and front door wood flimsey . the inner door to the lounge was cracked . central heating erratic . no dustbin in yard , no re-cycle bag for bottles .

We are disappointed that the cottage did not live up to the high standards we have set. We thank you for bringing to our attention the items that need addressing and can reassure you these will addressed as a matter of urgency. The yard has suffered somewhat from the ravages of winter. We have arranged for the yard to be cleaned and painted. Regarding the inner door to the lounge, the property is over 100 years old and we wish to retain some of the character whilst also giving the cottage modern comforts. Whilst we try to set the central heating at a comfortable temperature sometimes clients feel the need to adjust to controls. As soon as we were made aware of this issue and the other problems you identified, we have made arrangements for them to be rectified. When we have tried to provide recycling facilities in the past, we have found that clients accidentally place waste in the wrong receptacles causing problems with collection. We have found it simpler to provide a single commercial waste bin. Regards, Kath Crompton Property Owner
