  • "The property exceeded our expectations."

    It was spotless when we arrived , the bathrooms and kitchen are in immaculate condition. Whitbarrow village itself is a pretty charming holiday village in an ideal location , pretty much in the middle of Penrith and Keswick . We came just after school holidays so often had the pool to ourselves , pool area is lovely and has a sauna. (They provide towels that you can collect for each swim which we thought was a massive bonus)The restaurant has the most stunning view ! The staff are so lovely and helpful. There is the sweetest farm shop across the road which we used several times!

  • "Squirrel Cottage was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped for a holiday cottage - lots of crockery, pans & baking trays etc, plus ample coffee pods for the Nespresso machine."

    The cottage is in a great location for exploring the north lakes and our kids really enjoyed the included facilities on site (mini golf, swimming pool & games room).

  • "We had a fantastic holiday at squirrel cottage."

    It was immaculately clean, extremely well equipped and catered for. Complete opposite to a place we stayed previously. The owners really have gone above and beyond in the property. Whitbarrow itself was great, lots of things for children to do at no extra cost. Location was perfect for accessing the lake district. Will definitely look to come back and stay again and we highly recommend others to stay here to.

  • "Squirrel Cottage is a well equipped, well presented homely Cottage."

    It is not often you get an airfryer and Nespresso maker with coffee provided in a holiday cottage. The cottage is well situated for days out. We had a wonderful time. It was lovely to meet the owner on our last day.

  • "There is only one word to describe Squirrel Cottage and that is outstanding!"

    It has been renovated to a very high standard and you can really see the care and attention Andrew and Val have taken to ensure that facilities offered are on point. It is well equipped, super clean and user friendly. The card and gifts on arrival were such a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. We used the free onsite facilities daily. The crazy golf was great fun and accessible whenever you pleased. The swimming pool, was good and the online booking system is easy to navigate; our boys loved the Aqua Fun swim. The Kids Playroom offered a variety of games eg Lego wall, table tennis, table football, jenga. Thank you Andrew and Val

Very clean.. modern and spotless.. no expense spare on the refurbishment Owner clearly wants to to enjoy your stay Fantastic soft hotel standard fluffy towels, toiletries, comfy sofa and cushions . great location for touring the Lake District great swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna on site thanks so much for an amazing cottage to have our break with the family in. Owner had gone to great lengths to decorate for the Festive period.

  • "Really lovely cottage with good facilities at the hotel."

    Very clean and comfortable. Only feedback is a couple of larger pans would be helpful as there were 5 of us with teenagers! Otherwise it was a lovely stay. Very nice location to walks and Ullswater. Penrith only 10 mins for shopping etc.

  • "This beautiful cottage is just like a home from home."

    Recently decorated to a high standard. Lovely furnishings great use of space. The owners have thought of all the little things for comfort (super comfy pillows & beds), plus convenience - washing up liquid, shampoo, soft towels etc lovely touch. We absolutely loved it. Walk in shower en suite was fantastic for someone with mobility issues. Easy directions to find property. Only thing it didn’t have & by no means did this ruin our trip it didn’t have a socket near tv to plug in firestick. We only discovered this as we were hoping to watch something specific generally wouldn’t have noticed or even had tv on. The complex has a restaurant, bar & pool table , kids room, pool, sauna & jacuzzi. Also limited small room cinema room & live music bar one night a week.

  • "Squirrel Cottage is a great place to stay in the Lakes."

    The beds are comfortable, the sitting room is spacious and the kitchen is very well equipped. It was superbly clean and Well stocked with consumables. The prints all over the property are by a local artist and enhance the interior. Our grandchildren enjoyed the swimming pool - only niggle was that on the last two days it was full when we went to use it. Thursday we couldn’t get in at all and on Friday we managed at the third attempt. Apparently during the school holidays they have a booking system. Last week was half term in Scotland so perhaps we should have been able to book. The games room could do with a refresh. Notwithstanding we had a great holiday, the location is excellent for exploring the area and the site is well designed with spectacular views. Staff are very helpful.

  • "Fabulous little cottage lovely upstairs living area."

    Only drawback no toilet upstairs. Great facilities on site with swimming pool and gym. Had lovely meal in restaurant too. Highly recommended.

  • "Loved our stay."

    House is very modern, clean and well equipped. Good position on the site, balcony is not overlooked and looks onto a nice green area. Pool and facilities were good (water a bit chilly). Had a meal in the restaurant which was very nice. A full length mirror and a hairdryer in the house would be useful but otherwise couldn't fault our stay.

  • "Lovely property extremely clean and well kept nothing to complain about."

    Maybe a bin in the bathrooms would be a good idea. The facilities were great. Loved the crazy golf. Pool area looked a bit tired but that's down to the village owners not the property owner overall had a lovely stay

Perched on the popular Whitbarrow Village in Penrith near Keswick, Cumbria, is this wonderful holiday home, Squirrel Cottage.

Enjoying a superb location just on the edges of the Lake District National Park only ten miles from Keswick and Ullswater, with access to a wealth of on-site facilities, including the Eden Bar/Restaurant, crazy golf and putting green, a games room with pool table and tennis table, a gym, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, children’s splash pool, outdoor children’s play area, giant chess board, indoor heated swimming pool, a duck pond and woodland walks, along with the activities of quad biking and horse riding at nearby Rookin House, Troutbeck, Squirrel Cottage is a fantastic choice for couples, friends and families.

The property is also based 8 miles from Penrith, making it the ideal base for exploration.

On the ground floor, you will find three well-presented bedrooms, two doubles, one with en-suite shower room, and a bunk, the latter of which are served by a beautiful bathroom, where you can freshen up with a soak in the bath or under the overhead shower.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake.
