“Low Brow Barn was a delightful place to stay.”

Well designed and with full amenities it exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was fully equiped and the linen was all good quality. Clearly the owner cares about this property. A short walk leads to the waterside village of Waterhead with a range of amenities and good walks nearby. We had a wonderful week and look forward to returning sometime soon.

The property

A stunning 17th-century barn, converted to the highest standards, Low Brow Barn near Ambleside is situated at the foot of Wansfell and surrounded by the gorgeous countryside of the heart of the Lake District. With accommodation all on one level, the barn has been furnished in a comfortable and contemporary style with spacious and open plan accommodation for a small family or four adults who want to explore Lakeland at any time of year. As you step in through the large barn door, you'll find yourself in the most fabulous open plan room with the original exposed beams and huge picture windows to take in the tranquil and beautiful surroundings and flood the space with natural light.

It really is a breathtaking space, with comfortable seating around the wood burning stove and a really fabulous dining kitchen area with a slate floor, Rangemaster cooker and marble worktops.

This beautiful conversion offers period character, a modern high-end finish and contemporary style, which continues through to the two king size bedrooms and the fantastic modern bathroom with a bathtub, overhead shower, vanity unit and WC. Step outside and there are so many tranquil places to sit and enjoy the day and take in the views.

There's the private lawned garden and then the choice of two raised patios with garden furniture and a BBQ.

The garden really is the ideal place for dining al fresco or simply relaxing after the hustle and bustle of a day in the Lakes.

There's private parking for one car at the property, plus more free parking nearby. Waterhead perches on the northern tip of Lake Windermere and rides on the famous steamers are easily accessible from the nearby pier.

You're just a short stroll from Ambleside with its fabulous choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs and three cinemas including Zefirellis where you can enjoy an authentic pizza.

Some of the best walking country in the UK is easily accessible from Low Brow Barn including Skiddaw, Wansfell and Coniston Old Man and a short drive away is Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. Thanks to its central location, Ambleside is the ideal location for exploring everything the Lake District has to offer.

From Wordsworth Country around Keswick, Rydal and Grasmere, to Beatrix Potter World at Ambleside and bustling Kendal with its high-quality retail parks, there's something for everyone to do and enjoy.

Explore romantic Ullswater and celebrate a special moment at the world-renowned Sharrow Bay Hotel or treat yourself to an incredible dining experience at the Drunken Duck in Hawkshead. However you choose to experience this wonderful part of the world, Low Brow Barn is a luxuriously appointed home away from home and the ideal base for a wonderfully relaxing break in the Lake District at any time of year.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
