"What a fabulous stay we had, made more special by being there at the same time as friends in the cottage next door."
The location is brilliant for walks to the Mason’s Arms pub, the Cartmel Fel church and many hill climbs too. We were so close to many beautiful driving destinations and gorgeous villages too. I would definitely book here again!

"We love staying at Danes Court!"
It’s our 2nd stay there and we love the peaceful setting. The house has more than enough space for 4 people. It’s clean and comfortable and the bed in the main bedroom fit my over 6ft Husband nicely. It’s a great location for getting out into the lakes and about a 30-40 min drive to Kendal for trips to the supermarket. We will be back again soon!
The only thing to bear in mind is that you really do need to bring things like ketchup, oil etc with you or be prepared to get them from a supermarket.

"Dane’s Court is a lovely little parish house nestled in very rural Cartmel - you’re the only house for a few minutes drive, and are surrounded by moss, woodlands, and lots of animals!"
The inside is very rustic and regal, and the rooms are decorated in a classic and tasteful style. We loved feeling isolated, and being in a cosy cottage with lots of space.
That being said, the house is very old and therefore gets very cold in the winter! We had no issues with hot water, however we could not work out how to turn the heating on, and were unable to get ahold of the property managers. This was definitely a bit of a let down, however we were able to manage with extra jumpers and blankets.
The property itself was clean enough bar a few cobwebs which are to be expected in an older house, however we would have appreciated some fuel for the wood burner in the living room (just something to get us started!). None of the windows were able to be opened, and the living room has no curtains or blinds, which would’ve helped keeping the cold out!
In conclusion, this is the perfect property for an authentic rustic getaway, and we’d be happy to stay again. It leans into the more self-catered accommodation style, but we would’ve loved some extras to have us be more comfortable in the property. Even updating the check in pages with more detailed instructions on the fire and the heating would be brilliant.

"The accommodation and location were excellent."
There were plenty of walks nearby and the house was suitably situated for further exploration of the area by car.
The house was lovely and warm when we arrived. Unfortunately we later discovered there was no hot water. The available instructions bore no resemblance to the boiler set up. The next morning we got a response from the help number to the message we left and eventually managed to get hot water. The problem was it was not possible to have both heating and hot water at the same time. We at last mastered the technique for switching between the two, but it was somewhat inconvenient. That said the house was lovely and well set up with plenty of reading material (for inclement weather). The en-suite shower lacked the control to switch between overhead and hand held input and both showers were in need of non-slip mats. The other shower was also slow to drain
If the heating and drainage were sorted out we would certainly recommend it and visit again as the location was wonderful.

"Very nice and comfortable property, with all the required amenities in a great location for Windermere, Grizedale and Coniston."
There also seemed to be lot of local walking routes nearby. Great to have a property with 2 bathrooms.

"We loved the old house and its authenticity."
It’s beautifully furnished and there are some lovely touches for example the Emma Bridgewater crockery and objects of art.
It is also decorated beautifully. I’m inspired to decorate my own bedrooms.
Where we have marked it down for facilities we mean the shower in the en-suite as that doesn’t work (although the bath was fine) and the one in the other room where the base fills up and takes ages to drain. These wouldn’t put me off staying and I think those can be easily fixed. Whereas the lovely old place is unique. We would definitely return!

"If you want a secluded property, miles away from anywhere, this is the property for you."
If you want a property with modern fixtures and fittings with other people near by, then i'd give Danes Court a miss. Whilst clean, there was an over powering, lingering smell of wood polish but a huge amount of cobwebs, especially in corners. There was also a packet of mouldy crumpets in the orange bread bin which had been left by previous guests. Theres a lack of utensils in the kitchen but loads of sideboards and mirrors! We couldnt use the wardrobes due to the fusty smell inside, probably due to lack of use. The shower in the ensuite is so tempermental and difficult to use we all ended up using the shower in the other bathroom...the one with the broken blind so anyone (we only saw 1!!) walking the lane could see in. Blackout blinds would help, especially in the blue bird bedroom. Whilst the heating worked, having the sofa blocking the radiator made the lounge cold and damp feeling. Logs to use in the lounge would have been a nice touch, even in August. It was nice to have a washing machine but other than the radiators there was no airer to dry them on. Overall the property is as described and the pictures do not give a true picture of size and how seculded it is.

"Danes Court is the end section of what was the former Vicarage so it is a very characterful property which has been well renovated to give an authentic lifestyle experience."
The property is on a quiet lane and is heavily wooded around the home so there are lots of birds and we saw deer, which was lovely. The outside seating/BBQ area is small, but adequate, but it was a little overgrown and scruffy. It would also be nice to have some more comfortable outside seating, in which to relax. Because of the house's location it soon loses the late afternoon sun even in mid summer which is worth bearing in mind.
There is no other outside seating area or places to relax outdoors.
The property was fairly well equipped with nice crockery and cutlery although it lacked some attention to detail in presentation and some of the usual kitchen utensils were missing and the glassware is mismatched which gives a less than 5 star feel. The King bed was comfortable. Both of the showers are electric and we only used the walk-in shower, but we both had reasonably hot showers, although some of the fitments needed repair and a soap dish would have been nice. The WiFi is a bit slow, but it is fine for email and google. It struggled (and often failed) to upload photos so we gave up trying, although we managed to stream the TV without any problems. There are a couple of coat hooks in the hallway but some more would help as would some in the vestibule, and a clothes airer would be useful.
The access road is small and quiet. We did a couple of lovely walks straight from the house and it was easy enough to drive to other parts of the South Lakes.
Thank you to the owners for sharing their property and for an enjoyable stay.

"The house is beautiful, but it shouldn’t have been rented out with the water system in the state it was in."
There was no hot water running through the en-suite shower, and the flow of the bathroom shower was so light it was hardly worth using. A few hours into our stay, to our horror, water started pouring through the landing ceiling through both floors. Cracks started appearing in the ceiling. I called a help number and received some advice from someone who had been outsource by Sykes and we had to turn off the stop cock by going down into the cellar, we couldn’t find a ladder to get into the attic. It stopped eventually and we were told a plumber would be there in the morning. We had to get up at 7 in the morning for him. He said the lid had come off the water tank, he’d put it back on, and said it wouldn’t happen again and we were safe to stay. We were only there 3 nights and hoped we could just enjoy the stay and have baths instead of showers. But the next day it happened again. The plumber was called again but didn’t come on the Sunday. We wasted so much time and it was a huge stress. It’s not what we paid for. It was also mentioned that a plumber had been in recently, so this seems like bad workmanship. Clearly the shower system wasn’t tested nor the issue with overflowing tank adequately addressed. We have video footage and I’m waiting for a response on compensation. Sykes haven’t been responsive as I’ve chased a couple of times since they said they’d look into it.

"We loved our stay here, very spacious and clean."
It is furnished to a high standard, photos don’t quite do it justice! Perfectly located, rural, quiet and peaceful, yet not far from the nearest town and a couple of country pubs. This property felt very homely straight away and we really enjoyed our stay.
Only downside for us is that showers were a little temperamental (getting the correct temperature) however this wouldn’t put us off staying again.
Thank you for a lovely stay.

"Amazing… from the moment the cottage came into view."
The whole car was amazed, a picture perfect looking cottage with a scenario to match ( and two small local pubs just up the road was a bonus).
Going inside the cottage through the red door was magical. The kids (6 and 11 years old) ran straight in to explore, with the adults close by. All the beautiful features from the the down stair toilet, beautiful staircase and the small sitting room was just so in keeping with the character.
Initially cottage was a bit cold but quickly heated up.
We enjoyed our walks and drinks in the pubs.
We came home (to the cottage) and enjoyed our evenings playing games in a comfortable setting.
Clean bedding and towels felt lovely and fresh.
As a mother the main bonus of the cottage was the massive halls/space. Where I was able to bring in all our outdoor gear from walking and spread them out to dry for the next day (one thing I would add to the cottage is a clothes airer, this would of helped loads).
Perfect base to explore locally (great 3 hr circle walk just behind cottage) and to drive further afield.
Thank you loads for a lovely holiday home experience ❤️

"Beautiful property and very quiet and peaceful."
The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars was that the fridge was not working, no fault of the owner they didn’t know. And no iron or ironing board. Other than that it’s a wonderful place to stay, Would definitely highly recommend booking this beautiful place.

"We had a wonderful stay at Dane's Court."
The house is absolutely beautiful and there are lovely walks in the surrounding area. The Cartmel Fell church is a short walk away and definitely worth a visit. There is lots to see and do in the local area. We visited Brockhole on Windermere which has loads of great activities for the kids - the parking is shocking and gets full very quickly, so if planning to do one of the paid activities I'd recommend booking in advance as you get priority parking. We also took a steam train from Haverthwate, it takes you to waterside where there is a small but surprisingly good aquarium is and then you can get a boat to Bowness. The Beatrix Potter experience in Bowness is worth a visit and Bowness itself is lovely to walk round. Kendal is also worth a visit and has good sized supermarkets to stock up with supplies. We had a couple of days where the weather wasn't great and it was lovely to spend a bit of time at Dane's Court, playing card games with the kids and generally enjoying the lovely house.
