  • “We had a lovely week at the cottage.”

It’s very comfortable for a family of 4 (2 teenagers) and a dog. We enjoyed walking and there are several paths on the door. Very peaceful location.

This delightful cottage is full of character and charm throughout, including old ceiling beams, sash windows and the original stone flagged floor.

The sitting room is cosy and comfortable with a multi-fuel stove, ideal to relax after a hard day’s walking on the nearby fells.

Outside, the private frontage has a lovely bench on which to relax and soak up the sunshine, and to the rear of the property there is a small enclosed, shared yard suitable for sitting out.

There is fantastic countryside to all sides, from where you can explore the area of Wensleydale, often described as one of the most beautiful areas in the Yorkshire Dales.

The one mile walk from the back door, downhill on the paved path through the Hay Meadows to Hawes is one not to be missed, and guests can enjoy a good choice of pubs, places to eat and picturesque teashops in this popular market town.

This attractive cottage is a great touring base from which to discover the Ribblehead Viaduct, Three Peaks, the village of Dent with its brewery, the attractive old market town of Sedbergh and the castles at Bolton and Middleham.

About the location

Hawes 1 mile; Semerwater 3 miles; Leyburn 16 miles; Ingleton 18 miles

The picturesque and traditional Wensleydale village of Burtersett, which dates back to Norse times, is surrounded by beautiful Dales countryside and is home to a population of red squirrels now living around the village. It is an ideal base for touring the many attractions of the Dales, such as the waterfalls at Aysgarth and Hardraw Force, plus the lake at Semerwater and Bolton Castle, to name but a few. It allows easy access to Cumbria, just 17 miles away, and the Lake District. Nearby is the bustling market town of Hawes with the award-winning Dales Countryside Museum, Wensleydale Creamery (home of Wallace and Gromit’s Wensleydale cheese) and local ropemakers. Hawes is the 'capital' of Wensleydale and has a good range of shops, pubs and eating places and a traditional weekly market.
