  • "The cottage was lovely, clean and well maintained a real home from home."

It was a great base for visiting the lakes and surrounding areas.Only one negative was on returning to the cottage after days out there was a drain smell coming from the shower.

  • "Had a really enjoyable short break."

Cottage is clean and comfortable and there are lots of nice walks around Shap. Good location for visiting further afield. Shap Itself is very dog friendly and a lovely Sunday lunch to be had at The Kings Arms. Would definitely come back. Only a suggestion but a bit of extra comfortable seating in the living area would be a bonus as it’s a bit of a squeeze for 4 guests unless you use the rocking chairs so there was always intense competition for the 2 seater sofa! :)

the shower is extremely high and problematic on getting in and out. I caught my foot on the shower frame getting out and went flying ending up with lots of bruises and because of this we cut our holiday short as I was in a lot of pain. Wooden chairs in the lounge is a no no, very uncomfortable. No back yard light for the dog, or to see to put the rubbish out.

We are sorry that you had a fall and had to cut your holiday short. Property Owner

A table lamp in the lounge would be an excellent addition. Other then that everything was perfect. With lots of extra touches like some home made biscuits and throws for the dog. Thank you.

Not to far from central lakes and main towns to visit. Three pubs, chippy, and co-op in village so don't have to go far if you don't want to. outdoor pool closed when we were there.

  • "Our 22nd holiday cottage since 2017, this one has a nice homely feel when entering, off road parking at the door is great to load and unload."

Home made biscuits, tea, coffee and milk and nice welcome pack touch. Immaculately clean and well presented with large smart tv, good Wi-Fi, stocked kitchen with plenty of all the essentials particularly if you wish to cook, vacuum, iron etc all provided Two bedrooms one with twin single beds and the main bedroom with wardrobe, drawers, TV and double bed…our first double as all previous ones have had king size or larger …..but still very comfortable Generous size bathroom with electric shower cubicle, towels provided Small paved enclosed outside area to the back ideal as other guests have commented to let the dogs out for a night time wee….but didn’t fancy the idea of sitting out with a glass of wine knowing it was a pittle and bin area Fabulous large park and playing fields immediately next door, gated and secure with plenty of bins. Ideally situated to access all the Lakes attractions and even east of M6 to visit the Yorkshire Dales Disappointingly the photo’s of the lounge show a lovely large and roomy 4 seat corner sofa and large coffee table so looks very inviting to sit and watch the large tv,,,,sadly they have been removed and replaced with a small painfully uncomfortable 2 seater sofa, a wooden kitchen style rocking chair and a 60’s Ercol type wooden slouch chair both of which have a comfort level lasting seconds …..what a shame that the cottage has been misrepresented by not updating the photo as the difference to what you expect compared to what you get are poles apart.

We are pleased you found the cottage homely and enjoyed the welcome pack and you are correct it is ideally situated to visit the lakes and dales but without the business of either. Maurice & Jackie Property Owner

Nice welcome pack with home made biscuits. The large secure shed was ideal for keeping my mountain bike safe and there was plenty of space to park car off-road. The porch and carpet runner (and shoe tray) in main room mean't it was easy to take off wet outdoor clothing without dragging dirt into the house.

We loved the cottage and the welcome pack. The cottage was extremely welcoming and spotlessly clean we will definitely recommend the cottage to anyone especially if you have a dog 10/10 . Our only complaint is that only one of the pubs in the village was welcoming ( the crown) the other two state that they serve food every night But we found this untrue and one is in our opinion rude and racist( the greyhound hotel)

The main bedroom was large and cozy although the large double bed mattress was a little too soft for our liking. Although we brought a couple of our doggie covers for the 2 seater couch, there was a couple provided, which worked perfectly for our little Bichon to sit on the rocker chair next to us. The enclosed garden although small was adequate for our little dog for his morning and evening toilet.

  • "We loved our stay at Croft Cottage overall."

This is my third visit to the cottage and as usually I had a lovely time. The property is lovely and clean and the topper on the main bed really made a difference and was comfortable. The patio was lovely as we had some sunshine and was nice to sit out on with the dogs. The only downside was the footstools that were previously in the cottage have been removed and the two wooden chairs are to a very specific comfort. We could not get comfortable on the rocking chair or the other wooden chair so spent the week both of us huddled on the sofa with the footstool that we brought through from the bedroom. Might be worth considering putting another soft sofa or two soft chairs in the living room, like the one that is the main bedroom as it is much nicer having soft furnishings and something to put your feet up after a long days walking.

The curtains had to be kept closed for privacy, blinds angled in the right direction would have allowed in natural light, whilst maintaining privacy. Not being a fan of sliced bread, a decent bread knife would have been welcome, together with some tongues. This did not detract from a very enjoyable stay and would certainly return in the future.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at this property."

Very well stocked with kitchen appliances and utensils. We had an issue with the waste drain blocking outside. This had built up over time and had either not been reported by previous guests or had unfortunately blocked during our stay. Nevertheless, the owner was out within an hour to resolve the issue. Our only complaint is the very small clothes airer fir a family of 4 and the hoover in the property is extremely underpowered. We did our best to hoover before we left but the vacuum cleaner provided didn't do a cert good job. Stay was great and we'd definitely consider stopping there again.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay as for the vacuum cleaner yesterday we bought a more powerful upright cleaner to replace it. We hadn't thought about the clothes airer not being adequate we will upgrade it as soon as possible thank you for pointing this out to us. Maurice and Jackie Property Owner

.it had a double thin quilt in a king cover ...the shower isn't really any good for people with disabilities..its a very cold bungalow radiators in living room not really big enough for the size of the room..couldn't open the windows as there wasn't any small ones to open as there was alot of condensation..wardrobes were full of stuff with note saying do not touch ..area was lovely for a base but wouldn't go back to the bungalow

We have now purchased a top quality mattress topper and sorted out the problem you had with the quilt. As for being cold the guests have full control of the heating via the wall mounted thermostat in the passage way which is unlimited to how high you want it. There is a built in remote controlled electric fire in the living room which again is unlimited for the guests to use. We have addressed the problem with the items in the wardrobe but there has always been plenty of hanging space. We are sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay at the bungalow. • "This is my second visit to Croft Cottage and overall my stay was wonderful."

The cottage was very clean, cozy and homely. The enclosed patio is perfect for my furry friend and we both had a wonderful stay. During my visit the tap in the kitchen broke and the owners were very quick at coming out and fixed it the same day, which was brilliant. The cottage layout is different to that in the photos, so new photos would be good. The only negative for me was the bed in the main bedroom. The mattress was too firm/hard and after 6 nights of sleeping on it I had back and neck pain, so I checked out and went home a day early. Since most people cannot sleep on a bed so hard, maybe offering a mattress topper would be beneficial?

Thank you for your feedback Sarah Jane. The mattress is relatively new but we will take your advice and look into mattress toppers, as for the photos we are in the process of updating some of the furniture and when this process is complete we will update our photos. Jackie Property Owner
