“Nice clean, quiet, comfortable, warm and very well presented property in an area with good access to other areas of the lakes.”

All ammenties were well thought out and well presented. The kitchen had all you needed to prepare a meal and the welcome basket was a nice touch to get us started after a long drive. The local pub was friendly but the food was no better (or worse) than any other pub, though slightly more expensive as we had expected being the only pub in the village. We ate there a couple of times, as it is the only pub in Lindale itself and, the only other place to aquire provisions in the village walking in distance is the small post office store but, at just under 5 miles away, Grange Over Sands has two other pubs and a bigger selection of shops. They also have a few great take aways ("Fish Over Chips" was great). The stairs in the property were a little worrying with an OAP with us but, weren't a problem as we were aware of this, although the property wouldn't be suitable for someone with very limited mobility. Off road parking is provided (and appreciated in the Lakes) but was a minor issue due to the turning area. Nice small enclosed garden area with chairs and table. Although we were aware the cottage allowed dogs and understood the need for the covers on the sofas, continually having to adjust them was a bit of a pain. However, even the able bodied should be careful on the entrance step. Due to the placing of the door frame on the top step its very narrow and easy to miss your footing. These are picky and minor things and all in all its hard to find criticism for the property, we would highly recommend this property as a great base for visiting all the Lake District has to offer.

The cottage

Tucked away in a secluded corner of the small village of Lindale, on an award-winning courtyard development, this barn conversion is close to the elegant Edwardian town of Grange-over-Sands and the ancient priory village of Cartmel.

This cottage offers superb accommodation and makes an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Lake District, with Lake Windermere less than 5 miles away.

This lovely cottage offers two delightful bedrooms, along with a modern bathroom on the ground floor.

Upstairs, you can really appreciate the original features in the sitting room with its high vaulted ceiling and feature beams, together with a dining area where you can enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals.

There is also a separate Mezzanine area with seating, where you can escape for some peace and quiet with a good book.

Outside is a lovely enclosed garden with patio furniture, perfect for sunny days where you can enjoy the surroundings and relax.

The village of Lindale has a shop, pub and a Post Office, so you could amble up for your morning paper, whilst in the evening sample some of the hospitality in the pub.

Just a few minutes' drive from the cottage is Grange-over-Sands, a charming town noted for its gentle climate.

From here you can embark on a train ride over Morecambe Bay to Arnside, on the Lancashire coast, and enjoy all that this quiet, yet exquisite town has to offer.

The railway station in Grange is situated close to some lovely tea rooms and specialist shops including a bakery and chocolatiers.

For a superb day out, drive along to Cartmel and amble through this pretty village with its host of superb restaurants, individual shops and priory, with a river flowing through the centre with resident ducks.

The surrounding area is rich in flora and fauna with the Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve close by and whether you wish to explore the high fells or the charming low level walks, there is something for everyone in this charming corner of Cumbria, at any time of the year.

About the location

LINDALE

Grange-over-Sands 2 miles; Cartmel 3.6 miles; Windermere 12 miles.

Lindale, a small village situated in the south of The Lake District National Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and just a few miles from Lake Windermere, makes the area a perfect holiday destination. Set amidst the charm of The Southern Lakes, this attractive village, with handy gastropub, The Royal Oak, makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area. Just a few minutes drive brings you to Cartmel, a delightful village to wander around, famed for its delicious sticky toffee pudding, 12th century priory, National Hunt race meetings and gourmet restaurants. You could also visit Grange-over-Sands, a charming seaside Edwardian town. Take a stroll on the promenade and return through the quaint narrow streets with some lovely tea rooms and specialist shops including a bakery, chocolatiers, and award winning butchers. The Lake District has so much to offer, there is sailing on Windermere, cycling in The Grizedale Forest, Go Ape Treetop adventures, Birdwatching at Leighton Moss and The Foulshaw Osprey Experience. There are also stately homes at Holker Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle and a heritage steam railway which runs from Haverthwaite to Lakeside. The Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Beauty is also a short journey away. But leaving the best till last, walking or touring in the fabulous Lake District, with its fells, lakes and tarns is an absolute must, most of which is just a short drive or walk away.
