  "Gorgeous cottage in lovely settings however, it is extremely tired and in some desperate need of an update."

  The living room carpet was dirty and took away that wow walking through the front door. With the walls painted grey it came across as dingy and drab. The kitchen cupboards were all chipped and the plug above the cooker was extremely dangerous, we used the cooker and switched on the cooker hood, the plug socket was then soaking wet to switch it off. The fridge definitely isn’t working properly as we bought quite a bit of food and it struggled to keep it cold. It looks like it hasn’t been defrosted for sometime as it was thick with frost on the back. The bottom tray in the fridge door had been broken off before our stay and has not been replaced, making it difficult to store large bottle items, as there is nowhere to put them apart from lay them down inside. The back yard is very exposed and we had no privacy at all to sit out. The farm dogs pretty much barked all day - they seemed to be locked in a shed? - which unfortunately took away the peace and tranquility of the place. The bed is one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in, or not as the case was for here. My partner and I didn’t sleep well at all due to the poor quality mattress and the pillows were in a dreadful state - pretty much flat. The bathroom towels and bed linen smelt foisty. You could tell they had been washed but I think they had been packed away damp or it’s because the owners are storing the spare towels and bedding in the bathroom, which will clearly get damp when people shower? One towel was marked so badly that we didn’t use it at all. The towels were supposed to be white but definitely need to be changed, as they didn’t look clean at all. The shower head was covered in black mould in the water realease holes. It was an extremely dated electric shower and absolutely needs the head changing at least. The garden outside the cottage was unfortunately overgrown, so when we sat outside to eat our evening meal we could not see the river at all. All the other cottages maintain the garden the other side of the fence, which gave them a beautiful view in the evenings. We were sat looking at weeds and feeling like we were staying in the worst cottage in the row… disappointing. The owners left us 1 toilet roll and 1 bin bag, yet there were clear instructions to separate your waste? I feel that if you are paying to stay in a cottage for 4 days, you should at least have 1 toilet roll and bin bag per day. We contacted the owner prior to our stay to ask about electric car chargers in the area and we received a quite rude message back, stating that under no circumstances is charging allowed at the cottage - this is impossible anyway due to the location of the cottage on the other side of the river? She came across as rude and was unhelpful and clearly didn’t know. It may be wise for her to take some time to find that out, as there are very limited charging points in that area and it will put people off staying if they are unable to charge their vehicle. We left details in the visitors book to try to help other people out in the same situation as us. Beautiful cottage, stunning location but desperately needs updating.

  We are very sorry to learn that you were not happy with your accommodation. Here at Lavender Cottage we strive to ensure that our guests are satisfied with their stay, as you can see from the many other positive reviews we have had from other guests. The cottage is painted in very beautiful Farrow and Ball colours throughout, which contribute to the cosy feel of the cottage. The one in the lounge is Hardwicke White, not gray. The cupboards in the kitchen are traditional and are painted, and one drawer has a scuff mark on. The fridge is sometimes frozen up when guests turn it too low, perhaps this was missed by the cleaner, and we apologise for this. The electrics in the kitchen have all been checked, and we have up to date test certificates. The mattress.... we have some guests who love it! We cannot please everyone. The pillows are new and good quality. The towels are stored in the bathroom, in the airing cupboard, so are always dry. The shower head is not mouldy, the shower has been checked by a plumber when we did all the testing this year, and have been advised it is a good quality shower. The garden outside the cottage is full of wild flowers. wW wait untill they have seeded, and then cut them back. A couple of other cottages have concreted or paved this area. We chose not to, encouraging wildlife and butterflies at the side of the river. The cottage is a terrace, shown clearly on the listing photographs, we are unsure why you thought you may have privacy sitting out at the rear of the cottage. The area is fenced however, separating it from the neighbours. The dogs are wotking farm dogs, and many of our guests enjoy seeing them. The cottage is self catering, we provide starter items of bin liners and toilet roll. We also leave tea, coffee, sugar, milk, kitchen roll, dishwasher and washing machine tablets for you to use during your stay. Regarding information about electric car charging points, I did reply to your email with a Google search that I did, and sent you the link. We are a rural area and three are not many charging points. I also highlighted the fact that you wouldn't be able to charge at the cottage so that you would be prepared for your stay, and also our insurance forbids it, which I felt I did have to mention. I am quite sure that I was not rude. We thank you for your custom although of course disappointed that you did not reach out to us during your stay so that we could resolve any issues you may have experienced.   "The property was perfect for the two of us plus our dog, it was also ideal for the morning walk and fairly close to all day trips."

  The peace and quiet and sound of the river was just what we needed and we would definitely go back. The welcome gifts for us and dog was a lovely thought - thank you. There was always a parking space, and the enclosed back garden or the conservatory was a nice place to sit with a coffee or glass of wine.

  "We had a lovely holiday in Lavender Cottage in Cark of Cartmel."

  The cottage had all we needed and a good welcome pack and instructions. Good base for visiting the south lakes and the motor museum well worth a visit. The walk over a public right of way to cartmel racecourse and village was well worth the effort. Ask locals for direction to where it starts.

  "A wonderful house that was perfect for my husband & I & our 2 dogs."

  The house itself was clean, spacious & comfortable & the kitchen well equipped & it was great to have an under the counter sized freezer in the out-building as well as the fridge in the kitchen. We are usually wary of properties with off road parking away from the property but like other reviewers never had any problems parking on the road across the beck. The back garden patio was secure & enclosed which was perfect for our dogs as was the thoughtful touches of bowls, towels & treats for the dogs. From the house it was about a mile to walk to the coast to watch the tides race in over the bay & we also walked from the house to Cartmel, Hampsfell & Humphrey Head. The shop in Cark had everything you could need along with a generous welcome pack. We had a great week & we will return.

  "First time staying here."

  There was lots of information advising what would be available when you book. However there was lots more. A lovely welcome gift for us and our little Frenchie Buster. This is a gorgeous cosy cottage, a 2 minute walk to the local shop and pub, another lovely bakery a 15 minute walk away and a train station 2 minutes up the road. There was loads of little extras that are not detailed on the site. Tea, Coffee and sugar are provided as well as an iron, ironing board (should you wish to iron) and 2 umbrellas as you can not predict the weather. The bed was so soft and comfy, the whole cottage was just perfect. We have had a most relaxed break just what we needed. Will definitely be looking to book again. Thank you so much your cottage is gorgeous.

  "A lovely cottage with everything you could need for a home from home holiday."

  Ideal for exploring the lakes and coast, we really enjoyed a trip on the steam train and boat. The enclosed courtyard was ideal for our young cocker spaniel and we found a couple of lovely beaches for him to have a run on! Would definitely recommend Lavender Cottage and hope to return

  "A beautiful cottage in a lovely area."

  The cottage was spotlessly clean, so comfortable and well equipped. The owners have thought of everything, we couldnt fault it. A very generous welcome pack for us and our dog which was lovely, thank you. The cottage is really homely and lovely to come back to after long walks in this stunning part of the country. The sofa is so comfortable, bed & bathroom lovely and the kitchen is really well equipped. The river outside was so picturesque and relaxing to hear. The neighbours next door were so lovely and gave us some useful tips of the area. We explored the surrounding area and there are so many gorgeous places to visit nearby. Cartmel is magical.   "A lovely little cottage."

  We enjoyed our weekend here. The house is very comfortable with every thing you possibly need. Lovely welcome pack including goodies for the dog. Parking is on the road but it seems to sort its self out and parking for everyone. We went on some great walks straight from the cottage. In fact we did not move the car from our arrival until we actually went home. Local shop well stocked. We ate out one evening at local pub. Staff very friendly. Loads more eating places in near by villages. Lovely for a break. We would definitely re book great little cottage

  "Fabulously presented and immaculately clean cottage and we were greeted with a lovely welcome basket for us and treats for our dog."

  The cottage is very comfortable and well stocked and you should want for nothing. Walking routes available from the front door or if you wish a sort drive or use the railway station less than 10 minute stroll away. Friendly welcome in the pub and well stocked shop. And as promised the outside space was secure for our dog.

  "What a beautiful cottage."

  Photo's don't do it justice. Everything I could have wished for (and more). As soon as you step through the front door you just know it's very special. Lovely lounge, well equipped kitchen. Enclosed patio at the back and seating area outside the front over looking the river. Bed so comfortable and large bathroom with shower plus the extra bedroom for a dressing area. I was very lucky with the weather and when it got too hot I could come inside to cool down. Walks from door step, pub and shop end of road but still very quiet. Just get it booked !

  "Everything was great."

  We marked down the facilities only because of the Television. It was not possible to get BBC news, and others. This was not the owners fault, it was an aerial problem, but it would have been useful to have all the channels. We had long walks with the dog, and relaxed in front of the TV in the evenings. We just used YouTube mostly. We did explain our technological uselessness to the owners. This would not put us off recommending the cottage to others, in fact we would be happy to return to the same cottage again.

  Thank you so much for your lovely review. Whilst we don't have analogue TV at the moment, the TV is a smart TV and offers all of the apps. If we had been aware during your stay that there were some issues with the TV system, we would have come to see if we could help. However, we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and should you decide to return to stay at Lavender Cottage again, we would love to meet you on arrival and go through the TV operations in person to make sure that there are no problems with the system. The review which you left in our guest book had some very interesting information for future guests about the walks from the cottage and in the surrounding area, thank you!   "Lovely cottage, very clean and well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay."

  However, the bed was very soft so may be an issue if you’re used to a hard mattress and, due to the lack of doors downstairs we could have used baby gate to contain the dogs. Also, just for awareness, the fencing is only 3 foot high so if you have a larger dog or one prone to jumping it may not be suitable and there are farm dogs at the back that seem to bark and howl a lot of the time.

  "A beautiful cosy comfortable cottage in a quiet hamlet very close to Cartmel."

  Lots of character, high quality furnishings and well equipped cottage. Catering for both humans and hounds. The enclosed garden making it much easier with the hounds.   "The cottage was perfect."

  It was spotlessly clean and more than spacious enough for 2 adults with your furry friends. The cottage is in a picture postcard location with the river running in front of it. Every room was beautifully furnished with everything you need to create a home from home. The living room was warm and cosy with a comfortable sofa and chair with throws for both. Lovely little additional touches everywhere. The kitchen was more than well equipped with everything you need and more. The bedroom was really cosy with king size bed which was soft but so comfortable. A lovely spacious shower room with large shower cubicle. The 2nd small bedroom is made into a delightful dressing room. There is a small cosy conservatory overlooking the backyard whch is fenced off to form a safe enclosed space for dogs. Parking is roadside just opposite the cottage but the road is very quiet and only half a minute walk over the footbridge to unload the car so no issue at all. A thoughtful welcome pack was provided upon arrival, this was much appreciated thank you (especially the most amazing chocolate brownies I've ever tasted!). The village of Cark is very quaint and quiet with one convenience store for essentials and a pub (The Engine Inn). The pub is disappointing however only 1.5miles away is the beautiful village of Cartmel with a few fabulous pubs with amazing food and also a Michelin starred restaurant. There is a lovely daytime footpath walk between the 2 villages. Cark is a lovely quiet base away from the touristy towns of the Lake District however Bowness/Windermere are 25mins drive away and Ambleside only another 10mins further on from there. I would highly recommend a stay here and will definately return.

  "A beautiful old cottage with all the features you would expect and more."

  It was even nicer than the pictures and includes lots of extra comforts like plenty of sofa blankets and everything you could need in the kitchen. The back is completely enclosed and the cottage has a conservatory that was fully heated which was a delightful surprise, the perfect place to read with your coffee.
