• "We had a fabulous time at the property."

  The surroundings were peaceful and the views lovely. The kitchen was very well equipped and lovely to have a welcome pack and milk and bread. The property was very clean and nice to have linen changed for our second week. We went on a lovely 4hr walk that started from the gate in the garden to woodland. We fell in love with Ollie the dog. We would definitely come back again. Lovely holiday

• "We loved our stay at Durham Bridge Barn!"

  The house was immaculately clean and the master suite was incredibly comfortable. The kitchen was superbly equipped which made life so much easier. We were sorry to hear that the owner was unwell - but despite this a family member still came to welcome us and give us some bread and fresh eggs from the chickens - such a lovely gesture particularly given the circumstances. We brought out 10 month old son, and there was a cot and high chair provided which was great. There was a third small single bedroom upstairs next to the master suite which we used as him room - this worked perfectly. Even though it is really easy to access from the M6, and without any really windy roads, the barn is set back from the road and is wonderfully quiet. We left feeling very well rested!

• "Durham Bridge Barn David and his daughter, Sarah, were the perfect hosts."

  From the moment we arrived in this beautiful area of The Lake District, to leaving, they were always willing to help us in any way possible. This home-away-from-home is stunningly beautiful and absolutely pristine in cleanliness. PRISTINE! The kitchen is a dream and is stocked with everything you would ever need for a holiday. They even left us a gift box with an assortment of goodies - very much appreciated! Sarah also gave us some fresh farm eggs from her chickens! There are 3 bedrooms; two with large beds (and en-suite) and a small bedroom with a single bed. There is also a downstairs toilet - so convenient! The bed downstairs proved to be too hard for my old bones but Sarah came to the rescue! She provided another heavyweight duvet and with the one I had we folded them lengthwise to form a ‘cushion’ and from then on I slept really well! We did have a few hiccups with the heating but it was sorted and all worked out efficiently. We were within a short traveling distance of Windermere, Kendal, Keswick, Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston and The Lake District National Park…to name just a few! Such a beautiful part of the country. We definitely want to return - but only if we can stay at the barn! As ‘seniors’ we did find the seating in the lounge area a little bit difficult. The couch is very low, deep and comfortable - but too low to get up from easily. I sat in one of the chairs but my hubby sat on the couch. Once you’re ‘down’ - brilliant - but rising again..!? Whew! We had a few anxious moments at his antics. It wouldn’t stop us returning though. I cannot praise Durham Bridge Barn enough…we both loved staying there and were very sad to leave. You will not be disappointed - I promise!

• "On arrival we were met by the owners who were very helpful and immediately put us at our ease."

  The property is absolutely superb, the very best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. There is plenty of information on places to go and where to experience the very best of pub food. The property is perfectly positioned for visiting Windermere, Bowness Ambleside, Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's home) and Wray Castle and, of course, many walks. We managed to fit in golf at the Backside golf course where the views from the course were stunning. Needless to say but should we return to the Lake District we will book Durham Bridge Barn, it really is perfect in every way.

• "Clean, and mostly tastefully decorated to a high quality."

  Plenty of room and a lovely relaxed feel to it. A couple of Pyrex bowls would be useful and a measuring jug. A further seating area on a higher level would make a big difference as the area by the house doesn’t get the sun for long and you can’t see the surrounding views. I wouldn’t recommend wearing healed shoes when walking on the shale, which surrounds the entire cottage. Friendly owners and chickens. Definitely worth a stay.

• "A fabulous property, very quiet, clean and comfortable and with excellent facilities with a lovely private seating area at the back."

  The property has its own designated parking. A good base to visit the southern lakes and an excellent site to view the stars on a clear night. A welcome pack of local produce on arrival. Kendal supermarkets nearby for groceries and a useful list of local pubs to eat out provided by the owners. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay there again.

  It is obvious the owners have given a great deal of thought as to what makes a first class holiday home. A real home from home which was very welcoming from the moment you arrived. The welcome hamper and fresh eggs were a nice touch. The location of the cottage is great surrounded by wonderful scenery and with numerous tourist places to visit close by. We would thoroughly recommend the property to anyone visiting the Lake District and am sure we will be looking to stay at the cottage again in the future.

• "First of all its very well situated, not far from Kendal and on the old road to Windermere."

  Its close to (driving) a number of pubs that serve excellent food. Its very private and quiet with outstanding views. Its cosy and warm, well maintained and very clean. Very comfortable with luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is a dream to cook in the owners have provided everything you could want for a peaceful holiday. For a summer holiday there is a very nice private seating area. All in all 5 start accommodation.

• "A fantastic place to stay."

  Really clean. Everything catered for. Such a quiet and secluded spot as well. Very, very relaxing. The only thing I would change, and it is really nitpicking, would be to move the upstairs shower door opening to the other side as you have to slide past the hose and other features in order to get in the shower. Not a problem for us, but others could struggle. We hope to book to come back again next year, which is highly unusual for us.

  The barn was all that we wanted and needed. Providing the gift box and eggs was very thoughtful.The location is delightful, so quiet and peaceful but in easy distance to many interesting places and locations, including great pubs and restaurants. Being able to begin lovely walks from the property was really good, especially being able to chat with the chickens on route. We loved the wildlife. The bird song was extraordinary, which made having a cup of tea in the garden very special. Seeing deer wandering amongst the trees was a bonus. We were lucky with the weather, which enabled us to have extremely good views of the night sky. I have been visiting The Lakes for many years and Durham Bridge Barn is the best holiday home I have stayed in. Thank you again and love to Ollie. Pam and Bob Lambourne

• "We had a great week staying in the barn."

  It's a beautiful property and in a great location for visiting lots of attractions in and around Lake Windermere. The property was very clean and the welcome hamper was lovely. Unfortunately we found the beds very hard and uncomfortable and none of us really got any sleep. They are not suitable if you have arthritis/any kind of muscle problems or injury. Having no control over the underfloor heating also meant we were also very hot in the evenings/at night. I can't imagine staying there if the weather is warmer! The sofas could also do with an update. We ended up out and about more because we didn't find the barn comfortable. The garden is beautiful, though. We loved being able to walk up in the woods behind the barn.

  All decoration and appliances were of a high standard and contributed to the cosy barn feel, we all found the beds really comfy and had better sleep than we do at home. The location was great, secluded and quiet in the area itself with lovely views, whilst only a short drive to Bowness and Kendal. My sister particularly liked saying hello to the chickens in their coop :) The whole family commented when we arrived that the barn is outstanding and we had a fabulous week staying there, thank you!

  We had a meal at The Punch Bowl, which was only a few minutes drive away, and it has one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We will certainly be back to stay here again in the future. Would highly recommend!
