  • "Excellent location to explore the surrounding area."

Comfortable cottage, well appointed. I would recommend this location. There were some maintenance issues, highlighted to the owner.

  • "Four of us stayed at Stoneybeck for a week at the end of Sept 24."

We used it as a base for exploring Hadrian's wall and the north Pennines by bicycle and on foot. It is very well located for Hadrian's wall in particular, as both the cycle route and footpath pass within a few hundred yards of the house. The house is very comfortable with a large well equipped kitchen (the addition of a sieve would be very helpful) and a large sitting room with underfloor heating. In the end we used the sitting room very little as kitchen is the heart of the house. There are two bathrooms with excellent showers. Other reviewers have complained about the space for parking and whilst it is true there is realistically only space for one car, there is plenty of on-street parking within a short walk of the house.

  • "The property was well equipped and the welcome pack very generous."

My only complaint would be that the off road parking was only suitable for one car as the space was shared with the nextdoor cottage. There was not enough space for 3 average sized family cars without someone being blocked in.

  • "Stoneybeck was clean, comfortable spacious and very well-equipped for our stay."

The kitchen equipment was very useful for a large group doing a lot of self-catering and the welcome pack was a thoughtful extra. It was very dog friendly with useful dog blankets, bags and treats. The owners responded promptly to queries. Overall we were extremely pleased with our stay. Our suggestions are for a bit more advice about heating. We stayed in unusually cold, wet weather so unfortunately did need some heating despite it being August. The instructions for the rather elderly wood burner weren’t that helpful - until we contacted the owners who explained that the doors needed to be left open so it could draw properly. In contrast, the modern heating system had a moveable thermostat system, which we only discovered how to use when the cleaners visiting the neighbouring property explained it to us. Perhaps a few simple notes in the information pack would help?

  • "The photo does not show that there is another property on site."

Useful to indicate that parking area shared and that there are alot of other properties in vicinity with alot of vehicles meaning parking outside site restricted. If any party had a long car it could cause issue for second party gaining access

The welcome bottle of Prosecco was a thoughtful addition, thank you.

  • "Cottage was spotlessly clean."

Little extras provided, from dog poo bags, bowls, blankets etc was a great help and so thoughtful. All the things you forget to take were there. Huge basket of logs for the woodburner. Delighted to find the summer house was available for our use. Just couldn't fault the cottage. Nice walks from the cottage which were great for early morning walks before setting off for the day.

  • "We have just come back from a lovely break at Stoneybeck."

The cottage is beautiful- cosy, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you could need for a family holiday. We were within easy reach of many sights and places of interest. There are 4 comfortable bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with bath and shower which was ideal for us as a party of 6 adults and a toddler. Great value for money! We definitely plan to return in the future

  • "We've spent one of our best family vacations at Stoneyback!"

Great house and location with a lot of amazing things to see around. We got all we needed in the house, but the most amazing thing was how the owners are treating their guests, they did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and I can tell they really care. Thank you so much for that amazing New Year's eve!

  • "We have just returned from a long weekend at Stoneybeck and what a lovely time we have had."

We were a party of x4 adults, 1x 3yr old, 1x 2 yr old an 8month old baby and a small dog. The property was extremely well equipped for our stay and we were so pleasantly surprised with how child friendly it was. There was a baby gate, high chair, Childs toilet seat, bath mats and travel cot. I have noticed other feedback said no fire guard but this wasn’t an issue for us as the fireplace was so big and there was plenty of floor space for the kids to play. We had snow and frost during our stay and there was nothing nicer than returning to the cosy property to put the fire on and underfloor heating! Lovely little walk on your doorstep to Thirlwall castle, into Greenhead and back. Managed this walk with a double pram. My personal opinion is that then property is much bigger and nicer in person than what is pictured on the website. Beds comfortable. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and would love to return again. Thank you!

  • "This cottage makes for an enjoyable stay."

The cottage is very comfortable and cosy with lots of home comforts and important little touches. The cottage is also perfect for children (could do with a fire guard) for toddlers. The kitchen is very well equipped. Ordinarily you need to provide your own condiments and so on although the cottage covers all of the above. Haltwhistle itself is great if you are looking for a peaceful break, many cosy pubs for lunch etc. If you require more logs, these can be purchased at the garage in Haltwhistle. Lovely cottage that we'd recommend to others.

  • "Stoneybeck is a lovely, homely and well resourced cottage."

We loved staying there and would love to return. The only negatives were a) that it is very expensive to have to pay the weekly rate for 3 nights and then b) to return to the cottage on the afternoon after the second night and find it already being cleaned because Sykes had informed the owner we had only reserved for 2 nights. Luckily we had decided to leave in the late afternoon anyway rather than have a rush in the morning so we had already packed although my husband had wondered whether we should ring to ask to stay longer since we had paid the full rate for a week. We would stay more often with Sykes Cottages if they had short term rates for 3 days.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Stonybeck cottage, accommodation was very comfortable and clean and nicely furnished."

Cooking and laundry facilities were great, we had everything we needed in the house for our stay. The owners provided a lovely welcome basket which was very much appreciated. We are a family of six plus one dog, so it was lovely to find some books, toys and dvds for children as well as items for dogs such as blankets and towels. The owners have put a lot of thought into guest comfort and convenience. We visited at Easter and our children very much enjoyed having their egg hunt in the lovely garden and summer house. The yard is fully enclosed as well so we were able to relax while dog and children played together outside. The cottage is perfectly placed for many of the Roman attractions as well as a few nice pubs. We hope to return again next year.

  • "We had a really enjoyable stay."

The cottage is fully equipped, very clean and comfortable, whereas the generosity of the owners is reflected by the lovely welcome pack and full log basket which greet you when you first enter the property. If you are visiting the area specifically for Hadrian's Wall then you are in perfect location with the hugely impressive Roman Army Museum very close by and Vindolanda within about 15 minutes' drive, not to mention other impressive local sites such as Housesteads and Corbridge. I would stay here again and have no reservation about recommending this cottage to anyone else who wants to venture to this lovely part of the world.
