It was a fabulous place to relax and unwind. Our children had a great time playing in the field and watching the wild life. The accommodation was very comfortable, warm and welcoming. There is no WiFi and intermittent 4G, however being digitally disconnected was very refreshing. It is a lovely place to forget the pressures of day to day life and to sleep exceptionally well! There is no light pollution, allowing us to take full advantage of the stars. The only sound of traffic came from the farmers tractor whilst feeding the sheep, but this was a welcoming sound. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone who loves the outdoors and being in the middle of no where.

The property

A wonderful stone-built detached cottage, situated in the middle of a field on the owners' working farm in the small Teesdale hamlet of Holwick.

The cottage, which is approached by a farm lane, has been skilfully created from an old stone barn and has upside down accommodation to take advantage of the lovely views.

The River Tees runs by the bottom of the field.

Comfortably decorated and furnished, this delightful barn offers superb holiday accommodation at any time of the year.

The charming and peaceful hamlet of Holwick is situated at the end of a “no-through road” in the heart of beautiful unspoilt Teesdale. There is a pub which serves food and a farm/butcher’s shop and cafe (on the owners’ farm). The surrounding region is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — a paradise for walkers and lovers of country life. The magnificent waterfall of High Force is within walking distance of the hamlet and the Pennine Way passes close by. There are nearby picturesque villages to explore: Middleton, Mickleton and Romaldkirk, and the ancient market town of Barnard Castle is well worth a visit. All of the Northern Dales are within easy reach and the Lake District is less than an hour’s drive away. Fishing, riding, golf and a variety of watersports are all available locally.
