Walks from the cottage are ample for a full week. The cottage itself has everything you need and is warm and very cozy. A great romantic retreat.

  • "Lovely cottage!"

Located on the quieter side of Windermere, it is perfect for a nice, relaxing break away from busier Bowness! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, with the welcome biscuits and bottle of fizz particularly nice touches! The hot tub is also excellent and, with no light pollution at all, the stars are amazing to view on a clear night:) There is plenty of good walking on the doorstep of the cottage, without the need to get in the car, and trips to Bowness or Ambleside are easily achieved using the Windermere ferry service, which is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage and which I highly recommend. The Lakeside Hotel & Spa is also only 10 minutes walk away with views across the lake and a small but very good spa! Definitely planning on visiting again. 10 out of 10!!

  • "Had a fantastic week at Peony Cottage!"

The cottage is very comfortable and clean. They could have tried to make it fit 4 people but making it for 2 is perfect. Had a small issue on arrival that was sorted immediately. Great walks right in the door step and the local area is beautiful. If you’re looking for a quiet get away this is the place. Directions given in the welcome email are perfect and had no trouble finding it considering it not visible from the road. Lots of towels and blankets, the welcome tea, Coffey and biscuits were perfect after a long drive. Will definitely be going back in the winter this year. Thanks

  • "Peony Cottage is idyllic , set in beautiful tranquil woodland."

Perfect location to explore the Windermere, Coniston Waters and surrounding villages particularly Hawkshead. You can literally step out the front door and turn right at bottom of drive for the most peaceful walk up to High Dam, stand and listen for a moment and you hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The cottage is everything you want and need, the owners Julie and Alistair have thought of every little detail. The Hot Tub is a real bonus at the end of a long day walking, to relax those weary bones and muscles. We all have are own opinions when giving feedback but please ignore the negative comments some holiday makers have left, the cottage is absolutely perfect for a relaxing break. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you Julie and Alistair

Hot tub was fantastic with a little seating area. And plenty of room for parking. Only issues we had were the top step into the cottage was loose and standing in it was very dangerous and the oven was a nightmare to use. But we had a very pleasant stay

You can go from Lakeside on the boat to Bowness which is lovely. We also visited South Walney Nature Reserve and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The cottage is very private and hot tub is great to have. Enjoyed our week in Cumbria enjoying the Lake District before heading further up into Scotland.

  • "The treats were a pleasant find, thank you."

A good all round location for a trip to the lakes & a nice quiet area. Fan was much appreciated in the heatwave, thank you. The kitchen is so tiny you can't prepare meals in it, plus the hob is not user friendly, & takes a long time to heat food up. The sofa slides everywhere when you sit on it, so we had to move a rug from under a table to be able to sit on it. No mention of the use of feathered pillows, duvet & cushions...I am allergic to them, and as a vegan it is unethical. The TV had no signal so unable to watch it, not a problem for us, but something for others to bear in mind. The patio area only consists of a small table and chairs, not much privacy for that, or for the use of the hot tub, especially when the family are dining outside. Cleanliness was not up to standard expected of a holiday cottage. Many cobwebs, dust, and the tiles in the bathroom are grimy with a lot of black grout. The shower head kept falling from the holder, it was not substantial for a cottage of this price, and the extractor fan didn't work. The doors don't close properly, especially the bathroom. A slab at the front entrance was loose causing my partner to slip down the step. And WORST of all was finding someone's glasses in the bed behind the pillow!!!! Disgraceful!! We have left them 'somewhere' to see if the cleaner finds them.

Dear guest We take great pride in providing a lovely base for our guests holidaying in the Lakes, as such we were extremely disappointed to receive your review as your experience seemed so dissimilar to all previous guests and reviews. We're very disappointed that we were not given the opportunity to put this right during your stay - as we only live next door. We would have happily and quickly corrected this for you, for example - changed the bedding to suit your needs, shown how to use the televisions - both of which were and are in perfect working order, with access to terrestrial TV such as BBC and streaming services such as ITV hub, BBC iplayer etc. (instructions on how to do this were available too). We have since addressed all of the key issues you have taken the trouble to detail, and would have happily done this for you to help you enjoy your stay here. We had very purposefully described and photographed the kitchen as 'a small but well-equipped kitchenette ... which has everything you need to prepare tasty meals', so that guests have the accurate information required about the cottage prior to booking. As you might appreciate, we would have been grateful if you had thought to let us know you had found my wife's glasses, mislaid during your changeover. We thought it unkind that you instead, rather oddly, decided to hide them! Property Owner

  • "Overall a lovely cottage, attention to detail, and welcome pack, complimentary toiletries and little treats were very much appreciated."

If you're the sort of person who enjoys preparing and eating main meals of an evening, then the kitchenette is tiny! Unfortunately (or fortunately,) our stay coincided with a very hot spell of weather, so we couldn't make full use of the lovely hot tub, as we were told that the temperature was set by a company with no local control by the owners! Having said all that, the owners couldn't do enough for us, and the cottage is in a wonderful location for all the activities we wanted to do in the southern lakes.
