  • "The owners have done a first class job !"

MSR has been equipped to a high standard and very thoughtfully furnished and accessorised. The attention to detail is most noticeable and puts it above many other rental properties eg top quality bedding, towels, curtains and TVs . The personalised greeting and farewell were really appreciated in addition to the ‘welcome ‘ pack with Prosecco. We will definitely recommend anyone to stay.

It started off with a warm welcome and delicious treats on arrival and it ended up being a cosy base for some great adventures. The cottage is clean, has everything you need and was perfect for a family of 2 grandparents, parents and 2 children. We loved sitting by the fire after days in Malham, Ingleton, Skipton and Settle and the owners were so helpful. Fantastic place, we’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely lovely property in a quiet location overlooking the wonderful Yorkshire countryside Inside was very tastefully decorated and well equipped for self-catering The beds were so comfortable it was an effort to get out of them in the morning We loved the real fire, such a treat to come back to on chilly November days Thanks to the owner for a welcome pack, the tea and cake were very welcome on arrival in the late afternoon Just one niggle, it would have been helpful for the name of the property to be at the end of the lane especially arriving when it was beginning to go dark It would be great to come again perhaps earlier in the year

Was made to feel extremely welcome on arrival. Greater by the owner, a home baked cake and bottle of fizz. Stunning scenery, perfect for cycling, hiking and exploring Yorkshire. Open fire welcoming after winter walks. Loved every minute of our break and would most certainly return.

A little difficult to find. A sign on the main road would be very useful. Beautiful scenery but very big pot holes in the lane leading up to.property.

  • "The details need to say that the shower in the first ensuite is a shower over the bath also."

The cottage is very clean, comfortable and warm (but you do need to have the wood fire going otherwise it may not be warm enough downstairs). Great thought has obviously been given to the fittings in the cottage. The bedrooms and bathrooms in particular were lovely. We had a really good break and the owners could not have been more helpful.

Amazing views to the south. Nice, friendly pub in Long Preston and the village shop sold a good array of 'stuff'. We went on the train from Long Preston several times and enjoyed the journeys in clean, well run carriages.

  • "Only recently available through you and beautifully appointed and comprehensively fitted out."

Very rural location on a non-working farm, so all the benefits of being deep in the country but accessible to most local villages and restaurants. Chris and David were very welcoming and the home-made cake was so tasty. (as was the bottle of prosecco!). Would highly recommend these as hosts and this cottage as a brilliant place to stay.

  • "We were looking for a base to explore this part of Yorkshire from."

What we found was a home away from home with the lovely neighbours in the most peaceful surroundings. The kids loved coming back to the cottage after long hikes. We loved coming back to make meals in the open plan kitchen, clean off the days' dust in the well-appointed bathrooms and have a good nights' sleep in the extra comfortable beds. My kids even made friends with the neighbours on the other side and got themselves an invite to feed their lambs. Would definitely book again if we ever came back to explore this area.

The property

If you and your loved ones are seeking a beautifully-appointed property in one of the most picturesque locations within Yorkshire, look no further than Moss Side Retreat.

With its exceptional location, nestled between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland AONB, this self-catering accommodation is perfect for avid ramblers, families, friends and those alike to temporarily call home.

After parking up on the spacious forecourt, take in the unfettered views of the surroundings before heading into the open-plan living room, which has been designed with a touch of opulence.

The exposed beams ceilings are a striking element to the room, as is the woodburning stove set within an original stone-exposed fireplace, wonderfully showcasing the history of the property.

Light up the fire and flick through the channels of the TV at the end of a bracing day, before the chef of the group makes the most of the quality appliances that await them in the kitchen area.

Home-cooked meals and sociable moments can be relished at the sleek dining table, which is backed by a beautiful exposed stone wall, again offering a sense of the history of this home.

Take the staircase to find the master suite, elegantly decorated to create a relaxing and welcoming space, complete with a plush super-king-size bed and two single sofa beds, should you wish to bring any additional guests along, yet the pièce de résistance is the view of the countryside surroundings.

Concluding the interior is the king-size double bedroom, complete with quality linens and its own TV, perfect for those lazy mornings in bed.

At Moss Side Farm, the garden has been designed to be an extension of the house itself, where you can spend sunny afternoons gathered around the outdoor table, whilst younger guests of the group play freely and safely on the spacious lawn.

If you can tear yourself away from this heavenly oasis, venture into the centre of Wigglesworth where you will find the Plough Hotel & Restaurant or venture slightly further afield to Long Preston, where there is a traditional pub and a village shop.

Alternatively, make your way to the market town of Settle, where you will find a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool, whilst Skipton is home to even more amenities and an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market to explore.

Avid ramblers can don their walking boots and look forward to exploring the labyrinth of treks upon the Yorkshire Dales National Park with a variety of landscapes to enjoy, including rugged moorland, picturesque valleys and wooded areas, with the famous Three Peaks promising to be an interesting challenge.

Other landmarks that are well-worth a visit include the beautiful Stainforth Force, the White Scar Cave and the Clitheroe Castle Keep, whilst the Thornton Hall Country Park, Bolton Abbey and the Forbidden Corner all promise to be exceptional family-friendly days out.

With so much to look forward to, secure your stay at Moss Side Retreat for a memorable holiday in Yorkshire.

About the location

LONG PRESTON

Settle 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 12 miles.

Long Preston is an attractive Yorkshire Dales village in Ribblesdale, twelve miles from Skipton (popularly known as the 'Gateway to the Dales'), four miles from Settle. To the north, the landscape rises to the fells, moors and picturesque valleys of the Dales; to the south are the wetlands of the Ribble Valley which, in turn, sweep upward to the magnificent wilderness of Bowland. The village benefits from several large, tree lined, village greens, with footpaths leading direct to the surrounding hills, and it also boasts two excellent pubs with first rate cuisine. The railway station on the edge of the village provides access to the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line which crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Nearby Settle is a bustling market town with a weekly market, the centre being dominated by the Shambles, an historic 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool.
