  • "Thanks to Julie and Brian ,our short break at Ramblers Rest ,was just what we needed."

The cottage was lovely, in fact it was the warmest we have ever stayed in. Everything was extremely clean and well cared for as well as being ,private and quiet. The town of Sedburgh itself was great, very much a book town, all to be enjoyed. We hope to return soon. Iris and Danny Short.April 4th 2024

  • "Lovely stay here everything we needed for the weekend ."

. very well equipped kitchen and place was clean and comfy. Only thing I would say is the shared courtyard needs to state that dogs can’t use it for the toilet. It’s in the handbook on arrival but couldn’t see it when booking the property. Before we realised dogs weren’t allowed off lead toileting etc the dogs were out in the morning and a very rude man from the corner house came over to tell us it was absolutely outrageous that the dogs were off lead. Made us feel very unwelcome. We had two dogs one still a puppy so still wakes during the night.. having to take her round the streets at 4am so she could go to the toilet was not ideal and if we were dogs couldn’t go to the toilet in the courtyard we wouldn’t have booked. Only downside to the trip though but the man was very aggressive to my partner, incredibly rude and a bit of an exaggerator really hammering home how outrageous it was that the dogs were there. Literally wasn’t ruining anything either as it’s just cobbles so can’t understand his anger but never mind.

Good morning Miss Stewart, firstly apologies that your stay wasn’t perfect, and thank you for the feedback, which we always take seriously for continuous improvement. As such, I have spoken to Sykes this morning and had the website changed to reference the requirement to ‘have dogs on a lead at all times in the shared courtyard area’, as you suggested, apologies that this wasn’t clear initially. Hopefully this improves the accuracy of our listing. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage, warm, very clean and well equipped."

I loved the stylish and thoughtful interior, it felt very special. I only wished we could have stayed longer and that it was colder so we could have lit the log burner! Conveniently situated in the centre of Sedbergh so walks, restaurants and lovely shops, were minutes away.

Thanks Michelle, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed the stay, and hope that you come back soon to use the log burner Property Owner

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
