  • "Had a lovely week at Old Crow Trees, we really enjoyed the peace, tranquility and comfort provided."

The barn has been designed and decorated to a very high standard, giving plenty of space for a couple's holiday and a pleasure to return to each day. It is ideally situated to visit many local attractions for walks and sightseeing and, as our week only allowed us to scratch the surface, we will hopefully return in the future.

  • "I can honestly say that Old Crow Trees Barn was one of the best holiday cottages we've rented & certainly the most spacious for two people."

It's obvious that the barn has been lovingly restored & very well maintained. Our pack on arrival was most welcome before we were able to do a shop. Thank you Pam for everything & it was nice to meet you! PS Facilities would have had full marks except I thought the addition of a washer or just a drier would be very helpful for walkers' gear if staying over a longer period.

The barn is on the owners' property so they are at hand, but well-laid out so it's looking over trees and fields and has privacy. It's elegantly decorated and wonderfully peaceful.

  • "The barn is absolutely beautiful, very tastefully refurbished."

It has everything required to be a real home from home. The log burner, although the barn is very warm and cosy just adds to the whole country experience. It is by far the best two person accommodation we have stayed in, the rooms are airy and spacious although the photographs are excellent, the barn looks more stunning in person. The location is wonderful, Kirby Lonsdale is only a short drive away and has a lovely river walk and a great village with restaurants, cafes and shops which has managed to retain its charm. Bentham, Kendal, the lakes are all close by. Cannot recommend the barn and the location enough, it was a great New Year break and it didn’t rain in the day!

  • "A lovely home from home in a great location, very relaxing."

Property was very clean and well looked after as were we. It’s an ideal base to visit lots of places and to then return in the evenings to peace and quite and a lovely fire. We walked a couple of miles on the Sunday to a nearby village to have a proper Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Would highly recommend, the owners even let us check out a bit later to watch the end of the Rugby World Cup final, shame the result was not as perfect as our stay!

  • "We had high expectations of Old Crow Trees Barn and we were not disappointed."

We were looking for a little bit of luxury with comfort, charm, warmth, style and a perfect situation to explore the beautiful area. It is exceptionally spacious but does not lose the 'cosy' aspect. All our needs were well catered for with a good kitchen dining area. The wood-burning stove gave the evenings total charm. The bathroom is gorgeous with a luxury power shower you could fit several people in at once. The luxury of a lovely warm bath after a walk was great. We felt very special in the beautifully appointed bedroom with a view onto green fields and a comfy bed. We managed to do a lot of walking even though the weather was rainy. I would say the area rivals cumbria for charm. There were several excellent eateries within easy distance. We loved our holiday and hope to be back soon.

About the location

MELLING

Kirkby Lonsdale 6 miles; Ingleton 10 miles.

The quiet village of Melling, in the lovely Lune Valley, is bordered by the famous Lake District to the north, and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. A delightful village, with evidence of a motte - as with Arkholme and Whittington - but Melling has no surviving bailey. It's also situated close to where the River Wenning joins the River Lune. Nearby Hornby Castle is set on a high hill overlooking the river and is known as the subject of one of Turner's best-loved paintings. Consisting of a scattering of traditional stone-built houses, a beautiful Norman church and several 'undiscovered' quiet walks around the village and other, more frequented walks and places of interest close by. Nearby Kirkby Lonsdale is a popular town, with the Old Devil's Bridge a delightful spot to stop for a coffee beside the River Lune, while a number of antique shops and curios can be found in the town, along with an excellent selection of restaurants and pubs. 'Ruskin's View' can also be accessed from Kirkby Lonsdale, where you may walk in the famous artist’s footsteps and experience the views that inspired him.
