We hired this property for a family celebration and it was perfect. We were greeted by the owner and shown around the property, Nicola was extremely welcoming and helpful. It is obvious how much effort is put into this house as it was spotlessly clean and immaculately presented. The house is decorated to a very high standard and it was extremely comfortable and spacious for our party of 13 adults.

Ages from 19 to 80 and it suited us all. Property was clean and tidy, Nicola couldn't be more helpful and showed us round, whilst given us info on the area. Beautiful setting, waking up to these views was magical. Ashgill Waterfall High force Waterfall and the hotel.. we ate breakfast there and then returned for evening meal Durham Raby castle Barnard Castle All of the above are a must.. whilst staying at the old Miners Hall. If i had to be picky the only thing that could improve the property is tiny things like... toothbrush holders in the bathroom, a few more saucepans, hooks on the back of bedroom doors, more drawers in bedrooms. These are silly little things and the holiday was still perfect. Thank you

  • "We rented the Old Miners Hall to celebrate our mum and dads golden wedding anniversary - three households came together (11 people) and it fitted us easily."

There is so much room!! I’ve never stayed anywhere that is so well stocked, the kitchen had everything…even a food mixer and a slow cooker. And two of the households have purchased a coffee pod machine after using the one at Old Miners Hall. That said, we actually used a local catering company to provide food (pulled pork/brisket sarnies/ribs/various salads etc) - would definitely recommend Highrigg catering. And we also ate out at the Crosskeys in Eastgate (about 5 mins drive), which was good and very reasonably priced. The scenery from the house is amazing and there are a number of walks direct from the house. We saw so much wildlife and remnants of the old mining history right on the doorstep. Personally I didn’t use the hot tub, but the kids had a great time in it! The good news it is inside (with bi fold doors), so can be used whatever the weather. There is also plenty of seating and a chiminea barbecue (which worked perfectly for toasting marshmallows). Would definitely recommend the Old Miners Hall. The quality of furnishing (the sheets and towels were great!) and cleanliness was spot on. Nicola was the perfect host, easily contactable, provided great recommendations and thank you for the Prosecco on arrival…really helped get the celebration started.

We were a party of 8 friends of mixed ages. It was fairly rural so driving was essential but the view was amazing. We loved the large kitchen table where we all met for meals & evening games. The local pub within walking distance was permanently closed but that didn't bother us. The Hot Tub was really lovely as it was in an enclosed space....so even when others didn't want to get in they were able to sit inside & chat even when it was raining. The kitchen was well equipped & the decor was modern & clean. We would happily stay here again.

  • "Fantastic house that had everything we needed."

Arrangements and communications were very good and helped everything go smoothly. I had the best sleeps I’ve had since I can remember. Beds were superb! Location is ideal for getting away from it all but just a small drive to great places to visit in the North East. Highly recommended.

  • "The Old Miners Hall is stunning."

Very clean, good quality comfortable furniture, especially the beds. There were a few snags, i.e. doors not fitting, toilet seats slipping, but apparently these have now been fixed. There were a few too many rules, but these may be necessary for some parties of people. We were a group of middle aged women who always treat other people's homes with care and respect. I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Miners Hall to anyone.

Easy walk to the village pub/restaurant and under an hours drive from many popular attractions and days out. A warm welcome from the owner and greeted with a complimentary bottle of bubble and vases of fresh roses. Couldn't fault it and would not hesitate to recommend.

The village is a friendly place to stay for a week and the pub serves very good food and reasonably priced. Transport is certainly required. Nicola, the owner met us at the property and explained how everything worked. The house is fabulous and had everything we needed. Would recommend it!

  • "This cottage is absolutely beautiful."

It exceeded our expectations and was the perfect setting for a catch up with friends. The kitchen was extremely well equipped which made cooking breakfast for everyone a breeze - a rarity in most holiday lets. We visited during a cold snap and enjoyed coming back to a lit fire after our stroll to the local pub. Nicola, our host, went beyond the call of duty; greeting us on arrival, leaving a welcome hamper, helping us with taxi arrangements and making sure we were comfortable during our break. We would highly recommend to any large groups looking for a cosy luxurious getaway!

  • "Beautiful holiday location combined with relaxing luxurious accommodation made our family holiday for 6 adults and three boys a fabulous experience."

The stunning scenery and the wide choice of visitor attractions made our first visit to the area a memorable one. But most of all the friendly welcome we received from Nicola, and the private use of the hot tub in the summerhouse were above all the reasons why we will return.

  • "Great place for a family get together."

We were a party of 10, 3 generations celebrating a big birthday. All of us loved this place. The kids played hide 'n seek. We all enjoyed walks in the beautiful countryside and we laughed for hours around the big kitchen table. This is a house that takes care of you whatever you feel like doing.

  • "This is by far the best of many of the weeks away that we have had away."

We were made welcome the minute we arrived by the lovely Nicola and the locals were all friendly so we felt right at home. The furnishings and equipment at the Old Miners Hall are all brand new and of a very high quality. The kitchen is a dream to cook in and we had to drag ourselves away to eat out. The bedrooms were all very comfortable and it was very helpful to have do many ensuites and bathrooms. Having come up from the South East it was delightful to experience the relative tranquility of the area and we really immersed ourselves in the history of the surrounding cities towns and countryside, and the property itself in particular. There is so much to do we can't wait to go back and wholeheartedly recommend the property to other guests.
