  • "Thanks for a lovely relaxing sanctuary from the weather!"

We enjoyed a trip to Kendal-great charity shops & amazing wholesome veggie food at Baba Ganouch. Also managed to get up the fells for a big stomp over to Cautley Spout. The path is so steep! Hope to come back to stay again sometime. Johni and Miles (Devon).

  • "We have had a very relaxing stay in this gorgeous cottage."

We were delighted with the lovely Christmas tree and other decoratios - add a suitable festive touch to the cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped - we didn't want to leave. The weather hasn't been great, but we managed walks by the river/golf coure and exploring the grounds of Sedbergh school. Can recommend Smootts Duo for friendly service and very reasonably priced, tasty food. Also had a good meal at the Dalesman and drinks at the Black Bull. Thank you for an excellent stay!

  • "Beautiful cottage!"

Its been ages since me, mum, dad and my big brother have been able to spend some quality time together and this was the perfect setting! It will stay in my memory always! We were not expecting so many thoughtful festive touches and were absolutely thrilled with the Christmas tree We also had a lovely chat with the charming homeowner who was stopping by to leave some Proscecco! Couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome; we were truely taken care of! Also, what a gorgeous area! I battled some we and windy runs through the village and spend an embarassing amount of money at the bookshop - extensive punk history collection! I learnt to speak sheep language and had some interesting conversation with loval livestock. Thank you for a lovely festive stay!

  • "Outstanding!"

Perfect location for western Yorkshire Dale's & Lake District, property is finished to a very high standard. Huge fridge freezer & fantastic bike shed! Very nice touches. Excellent literature in cottage for local walks & activities. Building work next door was no problem at all, in fact I got the opportunity to look round the development and drool over the excellent workmanship!! Will definitely book this cottage again. 10 out of 10

  • "A quality conversion with high ceilings and beams makes this cottage very appealing inside and out."

Spacious open plan living and dining upstairs with views over the fells. A well appointed kitchen with some essential cooking provisions, utensils and equipment to prepare meals. Downstairs has a bathroom and 3 bedrooms with plenty of storage, the rear bedroom opens into a high walled courtyard patio with seating for 2. Out the front is a small garden with picnic table and parking for 2 cars and large shed for bike storage. There is direct Access to walking footpaths from from the property and a footpath along the road into town, which is about a 10 -15 min walk. There are pubs, butchers, cafes and grocers with a small Spar supermarket, I would suggest shopping before you come as the selection is limited and expensive. Things to note, the TV is not connected by an aerial, it is all app based so you will need to log in to each service. The USB slots are not accessible so you cannot connect your fire stick or similar device. There is a hairdryer which was not noted in the listing. The listing mentioned scaffolding on the neighbouring property; it is worth noting, as you look at the picture of the cottage the scaffolding covers the left side of the cottage from the front door. Obscuring views from the kitchen, downstairs bedroom and the upstairs cloakroom window. one day we went back to spend the afternoon at the cottage and were met with booming music; machinery noise and dust so we went back out. We may have been unlucky on that occasion but be aware there is building work next door. Im sure once it has completed the listing will be updated.

  • "Cottage was fantastic."

Fully equipped, very clean, warm and comfortable. Nice walk into the village for all amenities. Excellent pubs and cafes for food but also enjoyed cooking several times in the cottage kitchen. Only minor was not being able to get normal TV - still no idea how that works! Will definitely book again and highly recommend the cottage.

  • "“We stayed at Monkey Puzzle Cottage for a week in September."

The overall impression was of a very well designed conversion and high-end finishing and fittings throughout. The first floor is open plan with a high vaulted ceiling , generous well-equipped kitchen with ample ingredients for cooking and wide views south across sheep fields to Fells. The double aspect lounge with the extra view up Winder Fell has plenty of space for family relaxing, and the dining area with a large table, plenty of room for 6, across service tops from the kitchen. Makes lunch or dinner a pleasure as well as a convenience for the cook and the hungry ramblers. The bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor are all well equipped and good sizes. They open onto the hall which leads to the front door and garden. While there we could see how easy it was to drive to surrounding areas, Kendal and Windermere one way, a bit further south to Morecambe Bay, or into the stunning Yorkshire Dales - Garsdale, Dent and Howgill Fells. Kirkby Lonsdale a busy market town well worth a visit and great choice of cafes for lunch. Our week went by much too quickly, our hosts Charlotte and Iain so helpful with their delightful cottage, and we shall certainly go back again.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
