  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Joe House."

It was comfortable and warm. The only criticism I would have is that more warning about how steep the stairs are might be useful for when booking. I managed but don’t know for how much longer. Enjoyed all the information about the renovation of the cottage. Very interesting.

  • "We had a wonderful week staying at Joes House."

Very well equipped, warm and comfortable. Stunning scenery from every window..even a view from the loo. The stone stairs are a bit of a challenge so not advised for those with mobility issues. Everything has been thought of. Didn’t want the week to end! Cathy.x

  • "Everything was fine and we really liked the relaxed nature of the property."

..not too 'posh', but had all we needed. Pretty comfortable beds and its position and aspect is gorgeous. Particularly appreciated the bookshelf, with lots of reading matter, including maps and info on the local area. We were a bit confused about what to do with the recycling. The instructions said to put it into the shed, but on leaving we met someone ( owner?) who told us to take it all with us, which with a pretty full car proved quite challenging, even on a short journey to Reeth. Some clarity on this would be helpful and necessary please. I think a little work on the approach drive is needed. I'm glad we had good weather, in the rain it would have been pretty rough. I know many people own high wheel base cars. Ours is old and low, so we had to take it VERY carefully indeed. But overall, lovely holiday and would come back again.

  • "The cottage is lovely."

We stayed for five nights and absolutely love it. Had to stay indoor whole day for two days because of bad weather, but we still enjoyed a lot, as the cottage is really home-like. Sarah was very responsive and helpful. Will recommend to everyone.

  • "We had a great stay at Joe House."

The property is well equipped with everything - the kitchen has a good selection of pans, pots, plates, glasses, mugs, large fridge and freezer etc. The fireplace added a special atmosphere and there was wood and coal ready for us in the basket. The house was warm and cosy, and the owners were quick in replying our questions before our arrival.

Glad you had a great stay Property Owner

The surrounding views were stunning. After 3 days we managed to find the information folder which helped a lot but felt this should have been more readily available. It was a very well equipped cottage and we loved our stay.

Apologies about the information folder - it is usually left on the side in the kitchen I will mention this to the changeover team Thanks for the feedback Property Owner

  • "Cosy and very well equipped cottage."

We really liked the location just outside the village and the great walks that were possible from the front door. Particularly liked the wood windows rather than plastic which has disfigured so many cottages in the Yorkshire Dales.

Enjoyed a week of blissful peace and quiet. Location is excellent for nearby walking and not too far from the bigger tourist attractions of the Dales. Hard to fault it, hopefully I’ll return to Joe House very soon.

  • "A very atmospheric and cosy cottage away from the thoughts of Covid."

The drive down to the cottage needed to be taken with care when wet but was OK. Shame the Kings Head was closed for the week but we did have a great meal on Saturday the drive to Tan Hill Inn was good but the meal there was not good and expensive for over done scampi and cold underdone chips. The cottage was just what we wished for, a time to totaly chill out and relax.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry that you found the sofa uncomfortable, we will of course check this though no one else has previously mentioned it to be an issue. We have had the shower checked and they could find no problem with it. Pheasants and ducks in the garden (and sheep if you did not shut the gate properly!) Only one thing to be wary of, it is not for the less abled, uneven path and steep stairs could catch out the unwary, the drive needed careful negotiation otherwise was perfect.

About the location

GUNNERSIDE

Reeth 6 miles; Richmond 15 miles.

Situated in the heart of Swaledale, Gunnerside is one of the prettiest villages in the Dales National Park. Something of a sleepy backwater, it is surrounded by traditional farm meadows, pastures and fells, with the pretty Gunnerside Beck running through the village centre before joining the glorious River Swale on the village outskirts. Amongst the cluster of old stone houses there is Ghyllfoot Tea Room and the village pub serves good food at lunchtime and in the evening. The market towns of Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes and Barnard Castle are all within 15 miles making Gunnerside a scenic and central base from which to tour the Dales.
