  • "Wonderful little cottage in a quiet seaside village."

Easy to find and lovely welcome package of goddies from Jane the owner. Cosy and modern in decor we enjoyed our stay very much and Jane was helpful with a couple of queries we had. Would definitely return to Nursery cottage if we get the chance and will definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Everything was spotless and very comfortable. The owner had put a lot of thought into making the house really comfortable and everything that one needs for the stay. Even a welcome package and the fire set in the property upon arrival. We would highly recommend and hope to come back some time soon.

Cottage is so sweet. Across the road from a pub. Not far from the beach. Great situation

  • "A brilliant holiday cottage!"

Super clean. Superb attention to detail. Every detail for a great and easy stay was thought of, from lots of hooks to a tumble dyer, from loads of tea towels to amazing bathroom towels. Very friendly but not interfering hosts. A crucial parking space and an easy walk to the beach. A shop next door and a train station for easy access to the rest of the coast - but next to the Lakes for walking. A real find !!

  • "Jane & Martin are outstanding hosts, they really cared that we were comfortable."

We were advised of local facilities and our reception was, lovely, warm and friendly. We've already been recommending St Bees Cottage to our friends and relatives. Our 10-year-old son described it as "Fancy, old fashioned and modern" we'd add very clean and comfortable to that description too - we miss it already.

Set in the heart of the seaside village of St Bees rests this charming Grade II listed holiday home, Nursery Cottage.

Boasting a traditional white-washed exterior and rustic character throughout, Nursery Cottage is a marvellous base for your next family getaway to the Lake District.

A sought-after off-road parking space greets you upon arrival, leading you along a short pathway to the quaint black and white cottage, stepping over the threshold and into a handy entrance hallway space, offering storage to house your walking gear after a day of adventure.

Continuing through, you'll be delighted by the rustic interior of the open-plan kitchen/diner, beautifully-appointed with exposed stone work and a warming woodburning stove nestled within an inglenook fireplace, inviting you to snuggle in on an armchair and escape into the pages of a good book.

Cook up a storm in the newly-fitted galley-style kitchen, amply-equipped with all of the essentials, including a handy washing machine to freshen up your wardrobe, and serve your culinary delights around the intimate dining table, planning your next adventure.

Settle down for the evening in the snug sitting room for a movie marathon, or enjoy a moment of peace with a leisurely seat on the delightful arbour at the rear of the property.

As the day draws to a close, climb the stairs where you'll find two beautifully-presented bedrooms, a double and a twin, both decorated with a calming neutral colouring and maintaining the property's traditional character with eye-catching wooden features and original doorframes.

In the morning, prepare for a new day with a leisurely soak in the tub, or if you prefer, make use of the overhead shower for an invigorating rinse.

Step out the door and into the heart of St Bees, where you'll find a small selection of eateries, including local favourite, The Manor, set in a rustic 17th century inn, serving traditional home-cooked meals and refreshing cask ales.

Test your swing with a round of golf at the 9-hole course, or join the Coast to Coast Walk, a 182-mile hike created by Alfred Wainwright, as it crosses the Lake District National Park from the Irish Sea towards Yorkshire.

The Georgian town of Whitehaven is within easy reach, boasting an exciting array of heritage waiting to be discovered at Whitehaven Castle, dating back to 1769, and The Beacon Museum.

If that's not your thing, enjoy a leisurely stroll around the marina, soaking in the scenic views across the water, or take the tour around The Rum Story, a recreation of an 18th-century Caribbean island, displaying the origins of the towns dark slave trade.

Lace up your walking boots and head off on foot to explore the varying landscapes of the picturesque Lake District National Park, boasting open moorland, fells, woodland and of course, lakes, with walking and cycling routes to suit all abilities.

Avid outdoor adventurers can tackle the climb to the summit of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, stretching unspoilt views across to the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland on a clear day.

Make memories that will last a lifetime with a stay at Nursery Cottage.

About the location

ST BEES

Whitehaven 5 miles.

St. Bees is an historic seaside village on the west coast of Cumbria with a Norman priory and Elizabethan public school, as well as a shop, post office and old traditional pubs. It's an ideal base for exploring the western Lake District and Cumbrian coast, and is the start of the famous Wainwright coast to coast walk. St. Bees Head is the only major sea cliff between Wales and Scotland and is the only Heritage coastline in Cumbria. There is a fine beach and many wonderful walks are available along the clifftops, which are also home to one of England’s most important seabird colonies. There is also a nine-hole golf course in the village. Nearby Whitehaven, an elegant Georgian port, and the spectacular western Lakes, are more than worthy of a visit. Muncaster Castle is 8 miles away, as is the Eskdale and Ravenglass miniature railway. Cockermouth, the birth place of Wordsworth, and Keswick on Derwentwater are also within easy driving distance.
