  • "A fantastic cottage with everything you needed."

The beds were extremely comfortable plus there was a selection of books, DVDs, cds and games. The lounge was comfortable and cosy. The kitchen well equipped and Jan was really helpful with recommendations for a farm shop and supermarket. The views were fantastic as well. A lovely quiet place for anyone wanting a quiet setting but in a good position for exploring the area.

  • "Lovely well stocked cottage in a beautiful location."

The views from every window were stunning and certainly helped us enjoy a much needed relaxing break. Fantastic walking and 2 local pubs only minutes walk away (we preferred the Queens Head, for the wonderful food, service and ambiance). Would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

  • "We particularly enjoyed using the large outdoor table and chairs in the heatwave."

The owners had made improvements not noted in the listing which was great. The short walk to Mortal Man pub made that an ideal eating out venue. We found that pre-booking is essential for most pubs, restaurants and activities that you might choose to do in the day such as ferries or boat trips, Go Ape, some National Trust places.

  • "What a lovely cottage in a beautiful and lovely quiet location."

There 2 pubs with great food in walking distance. The cottage very comfortable and well equipped and furnished with amazing views and the outside seating area is great. No issues with parking. Our thanks to Lakelovers who were brilliant in responding when we managed to lock ourselves in the conservatory - the inner door has a yale lock so be careful if you are not used to one. We had a brilliant time and would happily return to and recommend Syke Villa.

Troutbeck is an ideal base for visiting the southern lakes while being off the beaten track and away from the crowds. We had two lovely weeks.

The property

An idyllic Lakeland cottage in the popular village of Troutbeck, the views and countryside around Syke Villa are second to none.

The property itself has been tastefully decorated, a real taste of country living, and its welcoming feel makes it the perfect home-from-home. Outside is parking for two cars, and the entrance porch doubles as a great place for storing muddy boots and outdoor clothing.

The ground floor is where guests will find a well-equipped kitchen with super dining room ideal for family meals, board games and planning adventures for the week ahead.

The first floor sitting rooms enjoys spectacular views over the Troutbeck Valley and surrounding countryside, while the fire and comfortable furnishings make it the ideal spot for relaxing with a glass of wine or local brew.

The two bedroom and family bathroom are also on this floor.

Once again, the country charm shines through and the pretty rooms are beautifully styled to suit this cosy cottage.

Outside the garden with seating area is somewhere guests will want to linger, making the most of the picture postcard scenery. The village of Troutbeck is a peaceful haven, away from the busier villages of Windermere and Ambleside, but only a short drive away.

The famous Mortal Man pub is on the doorstep, serving super pub meals and local ales.

Another nearby pub is The Queens Head Inn; choice within walking distance.

There is a local Village shop/cafe offering basic necessities but also delicious lunches and cakes.

This is somewhere guests will want to return to, time and time again.

About the location

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
