  • "The property was very nice, clean and well Stocked, however the WiFi wasn’t working, we always like to stream via a fire stick while on holiday, this was not possible, while relaxing none of us were able to google or stream, this affected our experience massively, making contact was also stressful, the table was unusable as the leaflets wedged underneath kept falling out and the outside furniture was not the same as pictured, these may all seem quite trivial complaints but as I said did cause alot of disappointment."

  • "The caravan was very nice."

    The location wad great, it was close enough to all the places on site that we wanted to see. The jetty was a lovely place to sit and have a picnic, with great views. The site is very peaceful and clean. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Alan.

  • "Caravan was nice enough but clever photos made it appear more spacious."

    No room round bed to walk other than crab style so not good for people with mobility issues. Otherwise nice caravan. The Park however - no Internet.Water on Friday was non existent. Took 20mins to fill the kettle. No showers, no toilet flush, no shower. Told cleaner who said that's typical of the caravan park on a Friday because of the hot tub service. Shop was always shut. Entertainment non existent even though it was Easter holidays. Was not a good experience and didn't live up to the Park Dean hype. The one saving grace was the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District. From there family had fabulous walks and days out. Booked 7 nights as a group. 2 left after 2 nights, 2 left after 3 nights and we left after 5 because holiday from home became the better option.

    Hi Mrs Preston I am so sorry you were disappointed in the park. As owners, it costs us more than £10,000 in site fees alone annually to have Herdwick Cabin on White Cross Bay. I have repeatedly complained about the Wi-Fi, water pressure issue, shop opening hours and other aspects that are Parkdean. New Wi-Fi is apparently imminent. I will share your review with the park management and hopefully, it will benefit everyone on site and all future visitors. Property Owner

  • "Cleaning wasnt good ."

    The main bedroom the duvet was stained really needed bedding replacing in that room but we did enjoy our stay and will stay again . The remote for tv the back was missing off it .

I am also very grateful for your 100% scores in the three other categories despite your concerns about the cleaning. That was very generous. Thank you. I have taken the cleaning up with our cleaner and asked her to replace the duvet and check that all bedding is still in good order, replacing anything that falls short. Prior to the park re-opening for the new season, I am aware the cleaner was joined by three other cleaners, who helped her to thoroughly deep clean Herdwick Cabin. We also replaced all blinds and the lounge carpet. I’m very disappointed you didn’t find the cleaning up to standard for your stay. I will be keeping a very close eye on Herdwick Cabin over the coming months. Property Owner

    We really enjoyed the holidays but i was expecting coffee and sugar. And also wifi was not working and even data. So we couldn’t reach with the family during holidays. We asked on the reception but nothing was done for wifi.

  • "We had a lovely stay here in June."

    The caravan is perfectly equipped for the week and is in a great location. We stayed here so we could walk up to Brockhole for the Great North Swim. (About 10 minutes) The van was clean and tidy, although smaller than some caravans we have stayed in before. It was fine for the 4 of us, but may feel cramped with any more than that. The only thing that let this place down was the lack of WiFi, although the owner has mentioned this in the listing, we hadn't realised just how bad it would be. Overall a lovely stay and we would definitely stay there again.

    Thank you for your kind comments. Should you return, you will hopefully find the Wi-Fi much improved. White Cross Bay installed a new system last autumn (2022). We had a router in Herdwick Cabin that automatically connected. Unfortunately, a fault developed and the engineer took the router out . We thought receiving its replacement would be speedier than it was and can only apologise it wasn’t done in time for your stay. happened as quickly as we thought it would.     The cabin is perfect and we had everything we needed! Perfect location to all the beauty of the Lakes. Enjoyed walking to the Lakeside each morning.   • "Dirty carpets, mold on net curtains, sink plug snapped in the kitchen area, damaged footstool / storage item , crisps and hairs on the floor, rusted bread bin, rusty toilet roll holder, no room to move in the bedrooms, lamp didn’t work plus positioned unsafe on soft cushion in between seating."

    Certainly not worth £239 per night no matter what time of year. Totally unsatisfied family with the premises and the booking with Sykes Cottages. NEVER AGAIN

As the owners, we had gone up to put Christmas decorations in for your New Year stay and the cabin looked beautiful. It was certainly not dirty. A lamp bulb had gone but there were spare bulbs. A small spot of mould was discovered on the master bedroom net curtain, which washed off (the cabin had not been occupied for a few weeks). There were staff at Skyes you could have contacted during your stay to voice concerns but you chose not to speak to anyone until after your stay ended. We take huge pride in Herdwick Cabin and have complete confidence in it and the Sykes team who look after it. Property Owner

  • "The mattress really is not fit for purpose extremely uncomfortable and would say cheap."

    Very little room in the bedroom you wake up feeling tired and not refreshed

    Hi Many thanks for your feedback. Herdwick Cabin is new. The mattress came with the bed. It is soft, which isn't to everyone's taste but because some people would opt for a soft mattress rather than a harder one, it is difficult to know what to do for the best. It is a cabin rather than a cottage or luxury hotel, which is reflected in the hire price. The main living area is spacious but the bedrooms are small as they are in all such properties. The cabin's advantages are all its equipment and facilities, including its big SMART TV and high speed WIFI connection, and the amenities that the park offers, which are within a short walking distance.   • "Warm and clean caravan."

    All the facilities worked ok. The big let down was not a sniff of WiFi in the caravan. We had to go to the restaurant area to get a signal. The food in the restaurant was excellent, we dined there several times.

  • "Fantastic location fantastic caravan but the park it's self was a bit disappointing the complex never really had much food options and it was hardly ever on only on a night time there was only entertainment on a hand full of nights the swimming pool was absolutely fantastic for the kids and really warm overall we would recommend anyone staying here and we'll be back ourselves location is outstanding and a 2 minute walk to the bus stops."

The property

Welcome to Herdwick Cabin, our little plot of Lake District loveliness. We are located on the fabulous White Cross Bay Holiday Park, which has its own private access to the shores of beautiful Lake Windermere. Take a picnic down there or make the most of the Parks outdoor sports court and play area for children, its swimming pool with Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room and its amusement arcade, which you will find in the club house and bar, where you can treat yourself to breakfast, lunch or dinner if you do not feel like cooking and which often has evening entertainment as well as children's entertainment and activities during school holidays.

Take the woodland path to wander back to Herdwick Cabin, which is a home from home, ideal for families or groups of friends.

We can loan you a travel cot and high chair for free and re configure our twin bedrooms to make you as comfortable possible. We make your pet just as welcome too as you will see. After your exploring, relax in Herdwick Cabins open-plan living area, which has a wide corner sofa at one end a large Smart TV so don't forget to connect your devices to the cabins router. There is a dining table so you can share a sit down meal together and a fully equipped kitchen, which has a large gas oven and range, microwave, and fridge/freezer.

Why not enjoy a brew or glass of wine on the patio, which is equipped with wooden seating.

Take the cushions and throw out with you to ward off evening chills. In the master bedroom, you will find a hairdryer.

The shower room and bathroom (toilet) are also conveniently separate to one another. On your doorstep is the park shop.

For a bit more variety, there is a SPAR at the garage a right turn and short walk along the main road out of the Parks main entrance.

For something special, including local produce, head to Booths in Bowness.

If not from the area and you don not know Booths, you have to visit.

It is the Waitrose of the North and some! You are spoilt for choice when it comes to local restaurants, cafes and pubs but check out the Queens Head in Troutbeck and the cafe at Brockhole on Windermere, which is a fab place for families and a left turn and short walk along the main road from the Parks main entrance.

Don't drive there as you are too near and parking is expensive ?

but do not miss visiting.

Brockhole on Windermere offers boat and paddle board hire, kayak tours, mini golf, tree nets, tree trekking that ends with a great zip wire, an adventure playground and loads of other fun stuff.

You can make a day of it. Just over the lake is the National Trust's Wray Castle, there is Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's quaint home plus The World of Beatrix Potter Children's museum in Bowness.

You can pick up leaflets on a host of local attractions at the Parks reception by the main entrance to its bar.

They also have bus timetables and as there are bus stops right outside the Parks main entrance, public transport is something you may want to consider to save on car park fees and to help the environment. Talking of which, if you are a walker, Herdwick Cabin is ideally situated.

Go as if you are heading towards Brockhole and you will spot a signed path on the opposite side of the road that you can take to walk to Troutbeck and Ambleside as a little extra to whatever expeditions you already have planned. And should the weather make outdoor activities unsafe (or just too unpleasant), your booking comes with complimentary entry to Choices Health Club, Troutbeck Bridge.

Just mention you are staying in Herdwick Cabin to enjoy a brilliantly equipped gym, choice of classes, a 15m level deck swimming pool and a relaxation zone with a roman sauna and fragranced steam room.

You can also get beauty treatments there too but you have to pay for those! So enjoy yourselves at Herdwick Cabin and do not be shy in letting us know if there is anything else we can help you with! Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of ?100.

Ambleside 5 miles; Kendal 8.7 miles.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

Park Rules and Operations – White Cross Bay

White Cross Bay has its own onsite facilities. You will need to purchase a complex pass from reception which includes the use of the pool, entertainment and access to bar and restaurant. The prices are subject to change by park management.

All holiday parks are owned and managed by a separate company to ourselves. Lake District Lodge Holidays has no association with the owners of these parks or responsibility for the provision of services they offer. At certain times of year, there maybe a reduction in those services, which is outside of our control.

Commercial vehicles, caravans, camper vans, Hen or Stag parties are not permitted onsite. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and are not be left alone in the lodges at any point during your stay.

You will be staying on an operational holiday park, which means work may be undertaken from time to time by the park owners during your stay. Although Lake District Lodge Holidays will always try to inform guests in advance if something may impact on a stay and if we have prior knowledge. We cannot be held responsible or accept any liability for park operations of which are outside of our control and which we have no knowledge of.

Any issues relating to a stay at a privately owned lodge should be reported back through Lake District Lodge Holidays as the park are not responsible for managing the lodge or booking for private sublet guests during their stay.
